The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,336 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,336 managers reported a position, together holding 215.6m shares, or 62.1% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 347.0m shares outstanding at 30 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE: PRU, this file) is a US insurer and asset manager headquartered in Newark, New Jersey, and is a wholly separate company from Prudential plc (LSE: PRU, ADR CUSIP 74435K204), a UK-headquartered insurer with no ownership or corporate relationship to Prudential Financial. Several 13F filers checked for this register (BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Northern Trust, FMR/Fidelity) also hold Prudential plc ADRs under a different CUSIP in the same info table; those lines were identified and excluded from every register row above so the two companies are not conflated. A reader searching '13F' or 'CUSIP' data for 'Prudential' should always confirm the CUSIP is 744320102 (Prudential Financial common) and not 74435K204 (Prudential plc ADR).
- The 13F exclusion. Prudential Financial itself files a Form 13F: for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (filed 12 Aug 2026, accession 0001137774-26-000183, CIK 0001137774), the filing is a '13F COMBINATION REPORT' filed jointly with PGIM, Inc., Jennison Associates LLC, PGIM Quantitative Solutions LLC, PGIM Custom Harvest LLC, Prudential Trust Co, Prudential Life Insurance Company, Ltd. and Russell Investments Group, Ltd. It reports 3,685 positions with a total reported value of $91,808,139,264 (about $91.8 billion). This is PGIM's client asset-management book together with Prudential's insurance general-account securities portfolio, not Prudential's own strategic balance-sheet stakes in other companies. Per the brief's exclusion of client-held, index-fund-style and general-account positions, no line item from this filing appears in holdings, the same treatment this project's ameriprise.json and pnc.json apply to Ameriprise's and PNC's own 13Fs.
- Holdings side. The Q2 2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K were searched for 'equity method', 'joint venture', 'unconsolidated', 'affiliated', 'minority interest', 'non-marketable equity' and 'investment in affiliate'. The only individually named, disclosed equity-method investee found in either filing is Prismic Life Holding Company LP (see holdings): a Bermuda-domiciled reinsurance capital vehicle in which Prudential holds an approximately 20% limited-partner interest, carrying value approximately $200 million as of 30 Jun 2026. 'Unconsolidated variable interest entities' (VIEs) are disclosed at $1,584 million of maximum loss exposure as of 30 Jun 2026, but per the 10-Q's own explanation these are investment structures Prudential manages or invests in without controlling (structured investment vehicles, not operating-company stakes), and no individual VIE is named, so none is added as a holding.
- Combined equity-method balance not split by investee. The FY2025 10-K's Note 3 (Other Invested Assets) discloses 'Investment in joint ventures and other operating entities' of $1,030 million at 31 Dec 2025 ($782 million at 31 Dec 2024), explicitly a combined balance ('summarized combined financial information for all significant equity method investments shown in Note 3'), i.e. Prismic plus other, unnamed joint ventures and operating entities. Prismic's own carrying value is separately disclosed (approximately $200 million as of both dates per the pattern in the filings), so it is used as-is in holdings, but the remainder of the $1,030 million combined balance, roughly $830 million, is not attributable to any named investee in either the 10-K or the Q2 2026 10-Q and is not converted into an invented holdings row. See unknowns.
- Prudential has a single class of common stock (par value $0.01, one vote per share) and no dual-class or founder-control structure. Andrew F. Sullivan became Chief Executive Officer on 31 Mar 2025 (succeeding Charles F. Lowrey, who remained Executive Chairman until 10 Mar 2026) and Chairman on 10 Mar 2026. The 2026 proxy states individual and group director/officer beneficial ownership is each less than 1% of outstanding common stock.
- Register cross-check against the proxy's own 13G summary. The 2026 proxy (based on stale Schedule 13G/A filings, percentages computed against 347,943,691 shares outstanding as of 31 Dec 2025) names only two 5%-plus holders: The Vanguard Group at 42,287,607 shares (11.71%) and BlackRock, Inc. at 32,541,140 shares (9.0%). The register instead uses each manager's Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 Jun 2026 position date), which is more current: Vanguard's successors sum to 38,956,649 shares (11.29%) and BlackRock is 32,497,736 shares (9.42%). Vanguard's 13F figure is somewhat lower than the stale 13G figure, consistent with a modest trim rather than a data error; BlackRock's two figures are close to each other.
- Percentages are computed against 345,000,000 common shares outstanding, the Q2 2026 10-Q cover page figure (dei:EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding, as of 31 Jul 2026, rounded to the nearest million per XBRL). The 10-Q's Note 17 equity roll-forward shows 345.2 million shares outstanding at 30 Jun 2026 (unrounded to one decimal), consistent with the cover page figure. This denominator is used for every register row, including the two proxy-sourced insider rows.
- Market capitalisation of $43.00 billion and the $124.56 share price are stockanalysis.com's figures as of the 17 Aug 2026 market close. Cross-check: 345,000,000 shares x $124.56 implies approximately $42.97 billion, matching the reported market cap closely.
- Capital Group family check (per the brief's mandate). All three Capital Group entities were checked against Prudential Financial's CUSIP (744320102) in their Q2 2026 13F-HR info tables: Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849), Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230) and Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848) each hold zero PRU shares, confirmed both by 'PRU'/'PRUDENTIAL' name-fragment search and by raw-text absence of CUSIP 744320102 in each filer's info table. No Capital Group row appears in the register as a result; this is a sourced finding, not a gap.
- T. Rowe Price family check (per the brief's mandate). T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) holds 506,839 PRU shares (thousands-convention rescaled, see the T. Rowe Price register row's method_note). T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612), the separate registrant in the same family, was checked and holds zero PRU shares in its own Q2 2026 13F-HR. Only the Associates entity is used in the register row, as a one-entity roll-up rather than a proxy aggregate.
- Self-gate check, computed exactly as the register chart computes it (members reduced from their container, everything else at full value): 12 register rows, summing to 113,193,256 shares (Andrew F. Sullivan counted at his full 57,628; the 16-person officer/director group counted at its residual of 189,257 minus 57,628 = 131,629 to avoid double counting his shares), against 345,000,000 shares outstanding, or 32.81%, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The identities of the other joint ventures and operating entities inside Prudential's combined $1,030 million (31 Dec 2025) / $782 million (31 Dec 2024) 'Investment in joint ventures and other operating entities' equity-method balance, beyond the separately disclosed Prismic Life Holding Company LP (approximately $200 million). Neither the FY2025 10-K nor the Q2 2026 10-Q names any other individual investee within this combined balance, and the Q2 2026 10-Q does not repeat the annual JV summary table at all, so a Q2 2026 combined total could not be sourced.
- Whether Prudential holds any minority-owned international insurance distribution joint ventures (e.g. bank distribution partnerships) outside the Prismic reinsurance vehicle; 'joint venture partner' language appears in the 10-K's risk factors in the context of jurisdictions that restrict majority foreign ownership, but no specific international JV investee is named anywhere in the two filings searched.
- Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, Vanguard Global Advisers) were not individually checked for PRU holdings within the time budget; if they hold PRU shares, the true Vanguard aggregate is somewhat higher than the 38,956,649 shares used here.
- Dollar values for the two insider register rows (Sullivan and the 16-person officer/director group) are null: the proxy's beneficial ownership table gives share counts but no dollar value, and no share price as of the 13 Mar 2026 record date was independently sourced, so a value was not estimated rather than guessed.
- Wellington Management, Dodge & Cox, Franklin Resources and other smaller 13F filers below the T. Rowe Price rank were not individually checked beyond the ones listed in the register above, which satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement (extended to 11 institutional rows to include the mandated Capital Group and T. Rowe Price family checks, plus 2 insider rows).
