Description
CRH plc is an American-Irish building materials provider headquartered in Dublin and New York, United States. CRH produces construction materials, primarily aggregates and cement, and manufactures ready-mixed concrete, asphalt concrete, and infrastructural components, of which it is one of the largest suppliers in North America. CRH operates 3,961 locations in 28 countries, including North America (75% of 2025 net income), Europe, Australia, and the Philippines.
Equity stakes CRH plc holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 24 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 986 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
986 managers reported a position, together holding 552.0m shares, or 82.6% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 668.2m shares outstanding at 20 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Filing regime: CRH transitioned from foreign-private-issuer status (20-F/6-K) to US DOMESTIC FILER status. Its last 20-F was for FY2022 and its last 6-K was filed 5 Jan 2024; its first 10-K as a domestic filer was filed 29 Feb 2024 (FY2023) and its first DEF 14A as a domestic filer was filed 28 Mar 2025. Confirmed via https://data.sec.gov/submissions/CIK0000849395.json, which lists the full filing history including form types and dates. All figures in this file come from CRH's 10-K, 10-Q and DEF 14A filings (the domestic-filer regime), not from any 20-F/6-K. CRH DOES file a DEF 14A with a beneficial-ownership table ('Shareholdings of Certain Owners and Management'), used for the insider row and to cross-check (not source) the three >5% institutional holders it names.
- Shares outstanding: 665,284,511 as of 20 Jul 2026, from the cover page of CRH's Q2 2026 Form 10-Q (dei: EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding, https://data.sec.gov/api/xbrl/companyconcept/CIK0000849395/dei/EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding.json), independently cross-checked against stockanalysis.com's 'Shares Out' figure of 665.28M. This is CRH's ISSUED-LESS-TREASURY (i.e. outstanding) count. The Q2 2026 10-Q balance sheet separately shows, as of 30 Jun 2026: 701,490,721 shares ISSUED (par value EUR 0.32) against 665,895,636 shares issued-LESS-treasury (outstanding); the 665,284,511 dei figure used as company.shares_outstanding is a few weeks later (20 Jul 2026) and slightly lower, consistent with continued share buybacks between the two dates. pct_of_company in the register is computed against the 665,284,511 outstanding (ex-treasury) figure, NOT the 701,490,721 issued figure; using the issued figure instead would understate every holder's percentage by about 5.2 percent relative to what is used here.
- CRH is JV-heavy, as flagged by the brief. All 24 holdings rows come from Exhibit 21.1 to the FY2025 Form 10-K ('List of Subsidiary and Related Undertakings'), which carries an ownership-percentage ('% held') column for each foreign subsidiary and equity-method investment, as of 31 Dec 2025 (no more recent 10-K or equivalent exhibit exists). 22 of the 24 are non-consolidated equity-method investments/JVs (Canada, United States, Australia, China, Ireland), all private, all with pct_of_target written as a whole-number percentage (e.g. 50, not 0.5), per the brief's rule. The other 2 (Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc. and Republic Cement Land & Resources Inc., both Philippines) are CONSOLIDATED subsidiaries shown at a 40% legal 'held' figure with a footnote stating CRH's true economic interest in the combined Philippines business is 55%; both figures are preserved (40 in pct_of_target, 55 in method_note) rather than one silently overwriting the other.
- Combined equity-method balance, per the brief's rule: CRH's FY2025 10-K discloses ONE combined 'Equity method investments' balance of $737 million as of 31 Dec 2025 ($620 million at 31 Dec 2024, $649 million at 31 Dec 2023; from the Adjusted ROIC reconciliation in Item 7 MD&A), covering all 22 equity-method investees together with no per-investee breakout anywhere in the 10-K or Q2 2026 10-Q searched. Per the brief's rule, this sizes NONE of the 22 rows individually: every one carries value_usd: null, and the combined figure is recorded here and in unknowns rather than assigned to any single investee. A partial exception in the MD&A prose: 2024's $108 million net loss from equity method investments was attributed to a $190 million impairment specifically of the China Yatai Building Materials investment, and 2025's $26 million net income was attributed to 'contributions from the Company's investments in North America and Australia' -- directional colour, not a carrying value, so value_usd stays null on those rows too.
- Register: 15 rows, computed the way the chart computes it (raw shares summed, no rolls_up_into/is_aggregate reductions apply since none of the 15 rows has a listed member elsewhere in this file). Total: 306,687,752 shares against 665,284,511 shares outstanding = 46.10%. This is slightly above the '25% to 45%' range the brief describes as typical (though well under the 55% alarm threshold). The most likely explanation, not a double-count: CRH completed a primary-listing move to the NYSE in Sept 2023 specifically to gain S&P 500 eligibility and US index-fund inclusion, which concentrates a larger share of its free float into US-13F-visible institutions than is typical for a foreign-domiciled issuer (the brief's warning about PARTIAL 13F coverage assumes a company whose US listing is secondary; CRH's is now primary). Checked for double-counting: no holder appears twice, the Vanguard family sum uses fresh Q2 2026 13F data for all 8 successor entities (parent filed 13F-NT), and the insider group's own listed members sum exactly to its stated total with no separate residual.
- Register uses each institution's own fresh Q2 2026 (period 30 Jun 2026) Form 13F-HR information table as the primary source throughout, per the brief's preference over any stale Schedule 13G/A quoted in a proxy. CRH's 2026 proxy's 'Greater Than 5% Beneficial Owners' table instead cites, as of Jan 2026 13G/A filing dates: Vanguard 79,117,624 sh (11.8%), BlackRock 45,908,063 sh (6.9%), Fidelity 36,156,016 sh (5.4%). The fresh 13F figures used here (Vanguard 82,949,507; BlackRock 53,986,446; FMR 38,001,498) are all higher, consistent with continued accumulation between January and June 2026 rather than a data error; both figures are preserved (proxy figure in the row's method_note, fresh figure as the row value) per the brief's reconcile-don't-overwrite rule.
- data/registers/CRH.json (this project's own 31 Mar 2026 13F-derived snapshot) was used ONLY to identify the list of entities to check for the Vanguard family sweep (8 CIKs), per the brief's instruction; every share figure in this file was independently refetched from each entity's own Q2 2026 13F-HR, not copied from that snapshot. That snapshot also lists no T. Rowe Price or Capital Group row large enough to appear in its top list, consistent with the brief's warning that the snapshot can omit real holders; both families were swept here from the SEC's own EDGAR data directly, per the brief.
- market_cap_usd ($62.04 billion) and its date are from stockanalysis.com's CRH overview page, fetched 19 Aug 2026; no live intraday share price could be independently confirmed from that page (its quote widget is client-side rendered and did not return a value to a non-JS fetch), so no separate share_price_usd field is included. The page's static 'Shares Out' figure (665.28M) matches company.shares_outstanding exactly, which is the cross-check used to accept the market-cap figure as current.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- No individual carrying value for any of the 22 equity-method JV/associate stakes or the 2 partly-owned Republic Cement (Philippines) consolidated subsidiaries: CRH's 10-K and Q2 2026 10-Q disclose only combined totals (the $737m/$620m/$649m equity-method balance, and the $435m/$430m/$389m company-wide 'Redeemable noncontrolling interests' balance sheet line), never split by entity. Searched the 10-K for 'equity method investments consist', 'carrying value of equity', 'Investments accounted for' and similar phrasing; none of these headings exist in the filing.
- Whether 'China Yatai Building Materials Group Company Limited' (CRH's 26%-held equity-method investee, per Exhibit 21.1) is a subsidiary/JV vehicle of the Shenzhen-listed Jilin Yatai (Group) Co., Ltd. (000809.SZ) was not confirmed; no ticker is asserted for this row and target_is_private is left at true pending confirmation.
- Capital Group family: only the three canonical registrants named in the research brief (Capital World Investors CIK 1422849, Capital International Investors CIK 1562230, Capital Research Global Investors CIK 1422848) were checked. The brief notes that other companies' files have found up to 6 Capital Group registrants (e.g. TransDigm found 3 further Capital International-affiliated entities); those were not individually searched for CRH given the time budget, so the Capital Group row (6,694,222 sh, Capital World Investors only) may understate the true family total.
- No 13D/13G activist or strategic holder above 5% was found beyond the three (Vanguard, BlackRock, Fidelity) named in the proxy's own >5% table and already carried at fresher 13F figures; a targeted search of EDGAR's recent SC 13G/13D filings against CIK 0000849395 was not separately run beyond what the proxy itself cited, so a very recent (post-proxy) 13D/13G filed after 27 Mar 2026 by a new entrant could exist and not be reflected here.
- No non-US (Irish, UK or continental European) beneficial-ownership disclosure regime was checked (e.g. Irish Companies Act substantial-shareholding notifications or UK Disclosure Guidance and Transparency Rules filings, which could in principle capture holders of CRH's shares trading outside the NYSE-cleared, 13F-visible pool); this file relies entirely on SEC-regulated disclosure (13F/13G/proxy), consistent with the brief's guidance for a foreign-domiciled issuer whose primary listing and SEC reporting are now both US-based.
