The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,621 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,621 managers reported a position, together holding 933.1m shares, or 74.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 1.25bn shares outstanding at 31 Mar 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- The 13F exclusion. Truist itself files a Form 13F: for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (filed 28 July 2026, CIK 0000092230), the filing reports 5,414 positions with a total reported value of $83,671,196,505, including two other included managers (Truist Bank /NC/, CIK 0000764116, and Truist Advisory Services, Inc., CIK 0001696868). This is trust, custody and wealth-management client assets managed on Truist's behalf, not Truist's own balance sheet, so under the brief's exclusion of client-held index-style positions no line item from it appears in holdings. - Visa Class B shares: not found. Truist's Q2 2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K were both searched for 'Visa', 'Class B', 'exchange program' and 'conversion ratio' and none of these terms appear (the only literal 'Visa' substring match in either filing is inside the unrelated word 'advisable'). A cross-check against the SEC EDGAR full-text search index for CIK 0000092230 across 10-K and 10-Q filings for the phrase 'Visa Class B' also returned zero hits. Unlike PNC, JPMorgan and Bank of America, Truist does not separately name a Visa Class B holding anywhere in its recent filings; if BB&T or SunTrust (Truist's predecessor banks) still hold legacy Visa shares, they are not broken out and are, at most, folded anonymously into the unnamed 'FHLB stock and other equity investments' line within non-marketable equity securities (no dollar figure given for that sub-component alone). No Visa holding is recorded.
- Truist Insurance Holdings (TIH): confirmed fully exited, no retained stake. The FY2025 10-K glossary defines TIH as 'an entity sold on May 6, 2024.' The Consolidated Statement of Cash Flows and Statement of Changes in Shareholders' Equity show two distinct transactions: a 'TIH minority stake sale' (net cash of $1,922 million in 2024, consistent with the reported 20% stake sold to a Stone Point Capital/CD&R-led investor group in February 2024) and a subsequent 'gain on sale of TIH' of $6,939 million pre-tax (net of tax $4,841 million) recognized on the sale of the remaining majority stake that closed 6 May 2024. The 10-K states only that 'Truist retained the postretirement benefit obligation for TIH employees' following the sale, a pension liability, not an equity interest. No mention of any retained equity stake, noncontrolling interest, or continuing involvement in TIH was found in the FY2025 10-K or Q2 2026 10-Q. Treated as a closed, fully divested transaction: no holding is recorded.
- Combined equity-investment balances that are NOT broken into named holdings. Truist's FY2025 10-K Table 'Other Assets' shows 'Tax credit and other private equity investments' of $9,882 million at 31 Dec 2025 (structured tax-credit vehicles and unnamed private equity, excluded per the brief), and separately describes non-marketable equity securities as including 'FHLB stock and other equity investments' at cost, with no individual investee named or sized. SBIC and certain other equity-method investments carry a combined amount of $1,015 million (2025) / $878 million (2024) in Other assets. Because no individual investee company is named or sized within these combined balances, no holding row is recorded for them per the rule against assigning a combined balance to one investee.
- Truist has a single class of common stock ($5 par value) and no dual-class or founder-control structure. Insider ownership is immaterial: the 2026 proxy states beneficial ownership by every director and executive officer, individually and as a 17-person group, is less than 1% of outstanding common stock.
- Register reconciliation on Vanguard, BlackRock and Capital International Investors. Truist's 2026 proxy (beneficial ownership as of 19 Feb 2026, based on the most recent Schedule 13G/A or 13F-HR then on file) reports BlackRock, Inc. at 97,460,660 shares (7.9%), Capital International Investors at 106,759,501 shares (8.6%), and Vanguard Group, Inc. at 117,898,632 shares (9.5%) as the only three holders it identifies as beneficially owning more than 5%. The register instead uses each manager's Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 June 2026 position dates): BlackRock 99,555,076 shares, the Vanguard successor sum 123,201,446 shares, and the Capital Group sum (Capital International Investors plus Capital Research Global Investors) 103,518,301 shares. All three are higher than the proxy's February 2026 figures, consistent with position growth between those dates rather than a data error; the Capital Group figure in the register additionally includes Capital Research Global Investors, which the proxy's 5%-owner table does not separately break out.
- Market capitalisation of $64.93 billion and the $53.15 share price are stockanalysis.com's figures as of 17 August 2026 (intraday). Cross-check: 1,221,626,188 shares x $53.15 implies approximately $64.93 billion, consistent with the reported market cap.
- Percentages are computed by this research against 1,221,626,188 common shares outstanding as of 30 June 2026 (Q2 2026 10-Q cover page), applied uniformly to all register rows including the two proxy-sourced insider rows (whose own beneficial-ownership date is 19 Feb 2026 and whose proxy discloses only 'less than 1%' without stating its own share-count denominator).
- Self-gate check: summing the thirteen non-aggregate, non-member institutional register rows (Vanguard, Capital Group, BlackRock, State Street, Bank of America, Geode, Morgan Stanley, Charles Schwab IM, Northern Trust, FMR/Fidelity, Wellington, JPMorgan, Wells Fargo) gives 537,665,876 shares against 1,221,626,188 shares outstanding, or 44.01%, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range for this register.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc CIK 0000933478, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co CIK 0001550100, Vanguard Global Advisers CIK 0001680208, Vanguard Marketing Corp CIK 0001767306, Vanguard National Trust Co CIK 0001811242, or CIK 0001984256, all of which appeared holding Truist in the Q1 2026 register snapshot) also hold Truist shares in Q2 2026. Not checked individually within the time budget; if they do, the true Vanguard aggregate is higher than the 123,201,446 shares used here.
- The exact composition of Truist's 'FHLB stock and other equity investments' non-marketable equity line and the $9,882 million 'Tax credit and other private equity investments' balance at 31 Dec 2025. Neither the Q2 2026 10-Q nor the FY2025 10-K names any individual investee company or breaks out a Visa-specific sub-balance, so no per-investee figure can be sourced.
- Whether any legacy Visa Class B, B-1, B-2 or B-3 shares are held by Truist Bank or its predecessors (BB&T, SunTrust) at all. Searched the Q2 2026 10-Q, the FY2025 10-K, and SEC EDGAR full-text search across CIK 0000092230's 10-K/10-Q filings for 'Visa', 'Class B', 'exchange program' and 'conversion ratio'; found no disclosure either confirming or denying a holding. This is treated as absence of disclosure, not confirmed absence of a position.
- Truist's Q3 2026 10-Q was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 (per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000092230), so any equity-investment or Visa-related activity in that quarter is not reflected.
- No Schedule 13D on Truist common stock was identified during this research; the register relies on Q2 2026 13F-HR filings plus the 2026 proxy's own summary of Schedule 13G/A filings for its greater-than-5% owner cross-check, rather than a fresh, independent 13D/13G filing-index search for 2026.
- Holders ranked below Wells Fargo in the Q1 2026 register snapshot (e.g. Victory Capital, Invesco, Bank of New York Mellon, Federated Hermes, Goldman Sachs, UBS Asset Management, American Century, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Legal & General) were not individually verified against their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings, since thirteen holders already sourced satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement.
