Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from Sempra's own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure the Wikipedia article states for 2024, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Description
Sempra is a North American public utility holding company based in San Diego, California. The company is one of the largest utility holding companies in the United States, with nearly 40 million consumers. Sempra's focus is on electric and natural gas infrastructure. The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,248 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,248 managers reported a position, together holding 588.6m shares, or 90.0% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 653.7m shares outstanding at 4 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Oncor: Sempra's indirect interest in Oncor Electric Delivery Company LLC is 80.25%, held through 100%-owned Oncor Holdings, which the Q2 2026 10-Q values at a $19,002 million equity-method carrying value at 30 June 2026. This is not consolidated because of ring-fencing and governance restrictions that leave Sempra without power to direct Oncor's significant activities. The remaining 19.75% is held by TTI Texas Transmission Investment LLC (OMERS Infrastructure and GIC Private Limited); TTI is not a Sempra shareholder, so no register cross-check applies.
- SI Partners: currently 70% Sempra / 20% KKR Pinnacle / 10% ADIA (FY2025 10-K, unchanged per the Q2 2026 10-Q). A September 2025 agreement, still pending as of the 10-Q filing date (6 Aug 2026), will sell 45% of Class A Units and all GP interests to 'the KKR Partners' for a base price of approximately $9.99 billion; post-closing the split becomes KKR Partners 65% / Sempra 25% / ADIA 10%. Marked confidence 'contingent' for this reason. No clean value_usd could be sourced for the current 70% stake because SI Partners is presently consolidated (not equity-method) at the Sempra parent level, so no standalone 'investment' balance exists for it; the $9.99bn price covers only the 45% tranche plus GP interests and is subject to material fee and adjustment deductions, so it was not divided out into an implied full-company or 70% value.
- Cameron LNG JV: SI Partners owns 50.2% (TotalEnergies, Mitsui, and Japan LNG Investment LLC affiliates hold 16.6% each). Sempra's $1,315 million equity-method carrying value at 30 June 2026 is specific to Cameron LNG JV alone, confirmed by reading the sentence immediately preceding the figure in the 10-Q. A separate, larger $2,649 million 'Equity method investments' line inside the Note 6 Assets Held for Sale table combines Cameron LNG's held-for-sale portion ($1,299 million) with other, individually undisclosed SI Partners equity-method investees (implying roughly $1,350 million of other balances); that combined figure was deliberately excluded and not assigned to any single investee, consistent with the brief's warning against the Invesco-style error.
- Excluded from holdings: ECA LNG Phase 1, Port Arthur LNG I and Port Arthur LNG II are Consolidated VIEs (Sempra controls them; third parties hold noncontrolling interests), which is the reverse direction from a Sempra holding in someone else, so they are excluded per the brief. IEnova is 99.9%-owned by SI Partners and consolidated (not equity-method), so it is treated as effectively wholly owned within the SI Partners holding rather than listed as a separate minority stake. PA LNG Phase 2 (SI Partners 50.1%, Blackstone 49.9%, effective Sept 2025) sits beneath Sempra LNG Holding/SI Partners; it was identified in the FY2025 10-K but its own consolidation/equity treatment and a standalone carrying value were not independently isolated within the time budget, so it is not listed as a separate holding and is flagged in unknowns instead. American Transmission Company (ATC/ATC Holdco) is a WEC Energy Group holding, not Sempra's; not applicable here.
- Register CUSIP: Sempra common stock trades under CUSIP 816851109 across every 13F filer checked; no filer's information table mixed in a different CUSIP for the issuer (no preferred/depositary-share or debt line was found alongside the common-stock line), so no exclusion logic was needed beyond scripts/filing.py's standard derivative flagging (used once, for a Wells Fargo derivative line).
- Register, Vanguard: Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT for Q2 2026 (no holdings). Per the brief's Vanguard rule, the register sums the two 13F-HR successor filers: Vanguard Capital Management LLC (42,684,252 shares) and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (37,319,559 shares), total 80,003,811 shares, into one row. No other Vanguard-affiliated CIK was checked beyond these two.
- Register, Capital Group: not the Vanguard successor case (no Capital Group parent files a 13F-NT). All three named entities were checked individually: Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849) 6,231,386 shares, Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230) 14,525,687 shares, Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848) zero. Summed the two non-zero entities into one row, 20,757,073 shares.
- Register, T. Rowe Price: not the Vanguard successor case either. T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) reports 9,066,823 shares with its value column in THOUSANDS (a known T. Rowe filing-family trap): two printed values of $752,214 and $88,372 were rescaled x1000 to $840,586,000, implying $92.71/share, consistent with every other Q2 2026 filer checked. T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612) has zero SRE shares this quarter.
- Register reconciliation, proxy vs 13F: the 2026 DEF 14A's 'Owners of More than 5%' table cites older Schedule 13G/A filings (various 2025 measurement dates, not 2026 13F data): The Vanguard Group 75,724,549 (11.6%, as of 30 Sep 2025), BlackRock, Inc. 53,048,491 (8.1%, as of 31 Mar 2025), Capital International Investors (division of Capital Research and Management Company) 50,986,401 (7.8%, as of 30 Jun 2025), Wellington Management Group LLP 48,686,047 (7.5%, undated in the snippet retrieved), State Street Corporation 34,247,325 (5.2%, undated in the snippet retrieved). The Capital figure (50,986,401) is the FULL Capital Research and Management Company family as of mid-2025 per a single 13G/A and does not reconcile cleanly to this file's Capital Group row (20,757,073, summed from only two of the three named 13F filers as of 30 Jun 2026): either the Capital Group family materially reduced its SRE position over the intervening year, or shares are reported under Capital Group CIKs outside the three named in the brief. This file uses the more current, entity-level Q2 2026 13F-HR figures and flags the large apparent gap here rather than silently reconciling it. Vanguard, BlackRock, Wellington, and State Street's 13F figures are all modestly higher than the proxy's older 13G figures, consistent with ordinary passive-fund growth over the intervening months and not indicative of an error.
- Self-gate check (computed per the chart's algorithm, from this file, denominator 653,754,366 shares outstanding at 30 Jun 2026): the 15 non-aggregate institutional/family register rows sum to 366,690,824 shares (56.09%). Adding the insider rows per the chart algorithm (Jeffrey W. Martin 1,577,852 shares in full, plus the aggregate group row reduced by the amount rolling up into it: 2,042,332 - 1,577,852 = 464,480) gives a grand total of 368,733,156 shares against 653,754,366 outstanding, or 56.40%. Row count: 17. This is above the brief's roughly-55%-ceiling guideline. Before accepting it, every large filer's information table was checked for CUSIP mixing (none found; every row cited above is on the single common-stock CUSIP 816851109) and every filer's implied per-share price was checked for consistency (all cluster at $92.7-$92.8/share, June-August 2026 trading levels, with no outliers suggesting a units-of-thousands or debt-security contamination). An independent aggregator (stockanalysis.com) reports 93.39% total institutional ownership of SRE, which makes a top-14-manager total of 56% plausible rather than suspicious for this security. The overage versus the guideline is reported here rather than trimmed away.
- SREA (Sempra's other NYSE-listed ticker) denotes preferred/depositary shares, not a second common share class; the register, shares_outstanding, and all pct_of_company figures in this file relate only to Sempra common stock (CUSIP 816851109).
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- PA LNG Phase 2 project (SI Partners 50.1%, Blackstone 49.9%, per the FY2025 10-K): its consolidation treatment and any standalone carrying value were not independently pulled within the time budget; not listed as a holding.
- ECA LNG Phase 2: SI Partners is developing this project at the existing ECA Regas Facility site; no ownership percentage with a third party (if any) or a carrying value was found in the sections searched.
- The precise composition of the $2,649 million combined 'Equity method investments' line in the Note 6 Assets Held for Sale table (Cameron LNG's $1,299 million held-for-sale portion is known; the remaining roughly $1,350 million covering other SI Partners equity-method investees was not broken out by investee in the sections searched).
- Whether any Vanguard-affiliated 13F filer beyond the two named successor entities (Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC) holds SRE; not checked within the time budget.
- The gap between the 2026 proxy's stale Capital Research and Management Company 13G/A figure (50,986,401 shares, mid-2025) and this file's Q2 2026 13F-based Capital Group row (20,757,073 shares): not resolved; both figures are recorded in notes with their sources.
- Any Schedule 13D or 13G filed on Sempra in 2026 was not separately searched on EDGAR full-text search; the register relies on Q2 2026 13F-HR data plus the 2026 proxy's cited (older) 13G/A figures.
- value_usd for Sempra's current 70% interest in SI Partners: no filed, investee-specific figure was found (see notes); left null rather than derived from the $9.99 billion partial-stake sale price.
