The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,379 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,379 managers reported a position, together holding 167.3m shares, or 87.4% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 191.5m shares outstanding at 22 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Nvidia cross-edge verified. Re-parsed Nvidia's Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR information table (source: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1045810/000104581026000065/information_table.xml) directly against the SNPS CUSIP 871607107 using scripts/filing.py 13f. Result: 4,821,717 shares, $2,150,823,302, an exact match to the pre-existing claim and to nvidia.json. On this file's own shares_outstanding denominator (191,479,325), the stake computes to 2.5181% of Synopsys, which rounds to the same 2.52% Nvidia's own filing states. No disagreement to reconcile. holder_type set to strategic per the task; not rolled up into any officers group.
- Ansys resolution: Synopsys completed its acquisition of Ansys, Inc. on 17 July 2025 for approximately $34.9 billion (cash plus 0.3399 Synopsys shares per Ansys share), accounted for as a business combination under the acquisition method (10-Q Note 4). Ansys now appears only as a consolidated product/revenue group ('Ansys' product group, 28.7% of Q2 FY2026 revenue) inside Synopsys's own segment disclosures, not as an equity holding. Per the brief's caution, Ansys is excluded from holdings as a wholly owned, fully consolidated subsidiary.
- Holdings are empty. Searched Synopsys's most recent 10-Q (period 30 April 2026, filed 27 May 2026) and FY2025 10-K (period 31 October 2025, filed 22 December 2025) for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated', 'joint venture', 'strategic investment', 'non-marketable equity', 'investment in', 'Ansys', 'SiliconExpert', 'PowerArtist', and 'noncontrolling'. Both filings disclose only a single combined 'non-marketable equity securities' portfolio, described as strategic investments in privately held companies, accounted for under either the measurement alternative or the equity method depending on influence, with no individual investee named or sized. The 10-K states this portfolio totaled $45.0 million at 31 October 2025 and $15.7 million at 31 October 2024 (Item 7A, Equity Price Risk). Per the brief's rule that a combined balance sizes none of its investees individually, no holding row is recorded; this combined balance is the sourced finding for the empty holdings array. 'SiliconExpert' and 'PowerArtist' were not found in the 10-Q at all (both are actually EDA/IP product names Synopsys sells, not investees, consistent with their absence here).
- Vanguard case: successor sum, not single parent. Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (confirmed via its EDGAR submissions feed, accession 0000102909-26-002714, form type 13F-NT). Its position is represented by the sum of Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119, 12,507,020 shares) and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (CIK 0002100121, 4,493,481 shares), 17,000,501 shares total. Other smaller Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers were not individually checked within the time budget; see unknowns.
- Capital Group is three independently filing entities, not a Vanguard-style successor structure. All three were checked by CUSIP (871607107) and name fragment ('SYNOPSYS', 'SYNOP') against their full Q2 2026 information tables. Only Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848) holds SNPS, 2,279,877 shares. Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849, 637 rows) and Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230, 446 rows) hold none. The Capital Group row sums only the one entity that actually holds.
- T. Rowe Price is two independently filing registrants per the brief: T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255, 1,276,771 shares) and T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612, 936,970 shares), summed to 2,213,741 shares. Both filings report their <value> XML field in thousands: taken literally, Associates' raw value implies $0.446/share and Investment Management's implies $0.446/share, both about 1000x below the $446.07 cluster set by Nvidia's independently verified figure. value_usd for both is the raw filed figure multiplied by 1,000, bringing both to the same $446.07 implied price as the rest of the register. This is the same thousands defect the brief flags and that was previously found in this project's marvell.json.
- Register reconciliation on the two largest holders against Synopsys's own proxy. The 2026 DEF 14A's 5%-holder table (based on each filer's most recent Schedule 13G/A on record) reports Entities associated with The Vanguard Group at 13,551,037 shares (7.1%), based solely on a 13G/A filed 13 February 2024 reporting ownership as of 29 December 2023, and Entities associated with BlackRock, Inc. at 11,788,658 shares (6.2%), based solely on a 13G/A filed 26 January 2024 reporting ownership as of 31 December 2023. The register instead uses each manager's own Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 June 2026 position dates): Vanguard's successor sum at 17,000,501 shares and BlackRock at 16,203,958 shares, both materially higher than the stale 2023 13G/A figures the proxy quotes. This is recorded here rather than resolved: no Schedule 13D or 13G/A on SNPS common stock has been filed since 13 February 2024, per EDGAR's browse-edgar filer list for CIK 0000883241 (type SC 13), so the proxy's 5%-holder table is now over two years stale and the 13F data is the fresher and more reliable source used in this register.
- Percentages for the 19 institutional/strategic register rows are computed against 191,479,325 common shares outstanding as of 22 May 2026 (10-Q cover page, period ended 30 April 2026). Percentages for the three proxy-sourced insider rows are computed against the proxy's own stated denominator of 191,561,935 shares as of the 17 February 2026 Record Date, since that is the denominator the proxy itself uses for its beneficial-ownership percentages (all three rows are footnoted only 'less than 1%' in the proxy itself; the exact percentages shown here are this research's own computation from the proxy's exact share figures and stated denominator, not an invented estimate).
- Synopsys's fiscal year ends in late October, so the FY2025 10-K (period 31 October 2025, filed 22 December 2025) covers the year to fiscal year end, and the most recent 10-Q as of 17 August 2026 covers the quarter ended 30 April 2026 (fiscal Q2 2026), filed 27 May 2026, per the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0000883241. No 10-Q for the quarter ended around 31 July 2026 (fiscal Q3 2026) had been filed as of 17 August 2026; Synopsys's prior-year pattern (10-Q for the July-ending quarter filed 9 September 2025) suggests it is due in early September 2026.
- Self-gate check (computed as specified, from this file): 22 register rows. Decomposing the insider rollup (de Geus 589,814 and Ghazi 200,811 roll into the 'All current directors and executive officers' aggregate row, which contributes only its residual 283,973 shares to the total, per the max(0, raw - members) rule), the total is 75,465,124 institutional/strategic shares plus 1,074,598 shares of insider contribution (589,814 + 200,811 + 283,973) = 76,539,722 shares, against 191,479,325 shares outstanding, or 39.97%, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range.

Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, or Vanguard Global Advisers) also hold SNPS shares. Not checked individually within the time budget; if they do, the true Vanguard aggregate is somewhat higher than the 17,000,501 shares used here.
- The identities of the privately-held companies inside Synopsys's combined non-marketable equity securities portfolio ($45.0 million at 31 October 2025 per the FY2025 10-K). Neither the most recent 10-Q nor the 10-K names any individual investee company or the number of investees.
- Whether any institutional holder currently holds 5% or more of Synopsys and would be required to file a fresh Schedule 13D or 13G/A. No such filing has appeared on EDGAR for SNPS since 13 February 2024 (per browse-edgar, type SC 13, CIK 0000883241), even though Vanguard's and BlackRock's own Q2 2026 13F-HR figures (8.88% and 8.46% of shares outstanding respectively) would ordinarily require an annual 13G/A amendment if the filer still individually holds 5%+; not independently resolved within the time budget.
- Institutional holders ranked below the 19 checked here on the Q1 2026 13F register snapshot (for example Goldman Sachs, Van Eck, Aspex Management, Victory Capital, Edgeworth Management, UBS AM, UBS Group, Invesco, Aristotle Capital, Amundi) were not individually verified against their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings, since the managers named in the task's verified-CIK list already satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement several times over.
