Uplight is a software company in Boulder, Colorado that sells electric and gas utilities the technology they use to reach their own customers: energy efficiency and demand response programmes, home energy reports, online marketplaces for smart thermostats and other connected devices, rate and bill analysis, and virtual power plant style control of distributed equipment so a utility can shift household and business load instead of firing up a peaking plant. It was assembled in 2019 by merging Tendril and Simple Energy under AES sponsorship and then folding in FirstFuel, EnergySavvy, Ecotagious and EEme, and it is a certified B Corporation. The company says more than 80 energy providers use its software, including several of the largest North American utilities. In March 2026 the British energy supplier Octopus Energy Group took majority control, with Schneider Electric staying on as a minority partner and Uplight continuing to run as a separate company.
Source
Uplight, Inc. files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from AES merges Simple Energy and Tendril to establish Uplight (NS Energy), Uplight becomes a Certified B Corporation (Uplight press release) and UK firm takes majority stake in Boulder's Uplight (BizWest, March 2026). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- The AES Corporation. Sale AGREED but NOT YET CLOSED as of the Q2 2026 10-Q (period 30 Jun 2026): 'expected to close in the second half of 2026.' AES's equity method accounting for its 25% Uplight stake was suspended in Q4 2025 (accumulated losses exceeded the carrying basis), and the FY2025 10-K's itemized equity-method table shows Uplight's carrying value at $0 as of 31 Dec 2025 (down from $82 million at 31 Dec 2024, ownership unchanged at 25% both years), so value_usd is left null here rather than modelled: the position is real and still held as of the Q2 2026 10-Q, but has no disclosed carrying value, and the pending $40 million sale price is contingent/not-yet-realized consideration rather than a current fair value. Once the sale closes (expected H2 2026) this should become a note with no row per this project's convention for a completed exit. sourcesource 2
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Uplight, Inc. where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
