Founded

PayPay Corporation runs Japan's largest code based mobile payment platform and, increasingly, a broader consumer finance app. Launched in October 2018 by SoftBank and Yahoo Japan, the service lets users pay merchants by scanning a QR code from a pre-loaded PayPay Balance or on credit, and it reported roughly 72 million registered users at the end of December 2025, about 40 million monthly transacting users that month, and 64 percent of code based payment volume in Japan. It has expanded beyond the wallet: PayPay Card Corporation, acquired in October 2022, had 16.0 million active cards issued, and majority stakes taken in PayPay Bank Corporation and PayPay Securities Corporation in April 2025 added internet banking, lending and smartphone brokerage inside the same app. Payment segment gross merchandise value reached 15.39 trillion yen in the year to 31 March 2025. The company is based in Tokyo and listed American depositary shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market in March 2026 under the ticker PAYP.

Where each figure comes from

A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.

What this page is not

It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. Many other shareholders can hold PayPay Corp without appearing here, and nothing on this page rules them out, because this page is only the disclosing holders' side. Percentages are of PayPay Corp where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
