Motional is a driverless technology company formed in 2020 as a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv, combining the autonomous driving startups nuTonomy and Ottomatika with Hyundai vehicle engineering. Headquartered in Boston with operations in Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and Singapore, it develops SAE Level 4 self driving software, sensors and compute, and integrates them into an all electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxi built for ride hailing and delivery. Hyundai contributes the production vehicle platform and manufacturing while Aptiv contributed the founding autonomy teams and vehicle electrical architecture. The company ran public robotaxi service with Lyft and Uber, completing more than 130,000 autonomous rides, and is moving to fully driverless commercial service from 2026.

• Aptiv PLC, as of 30 Jun 2026. Aptiv and Hyundai Motor Group formed Motional in March 2020 as a 50/50 autonomous-driving joint venture. Aptiv's common equity interest was diluted in stages, all FROM FILINGS: 50% as of 31 Dec 2023, reduced to approximately 15% in May 2024 via an ownership-restructuring agreement (Hyundai funded Motional and Aptiv gave up future funding obligations), then further diluted to approximately 13% on 30 May 2025 when Hyundai invested ~$440 million in a funding round Aptiv did not participate in. The Q2 2026 10-Q (period 30 Jun 2026, the latest 10-Q) states the interest is still approximately 13% as of that date, unchanged since March 2025. As of 30 Jun 2026 the carrying values were: common equity investment $222 million, preferred equity investment $899 million (both per the 10-Q text), summing to the $1,121 million value_usd recorded here. The preferred equity investment is a SEPARATE instrument (initially fair-valued, subsequently held under the ASC 321 measurement alternative because it lacks a readily determinable fair value) and is not itself denominated as a percentage of common equity, so pct_of_target here refers only to the common equity interest; shares is null because the interest is a percentage LLC membership interest, not a share count, exactly the units-not-shares case this project flags.
