Grupo Energia Gas Panama, also written Grupo Energetico Gas Panama and abbreviated GEGP, is a Panamanian power generation company set up by the Caribbean and Central American developer InterEnergy Group together with AES Panama, which contributes the fuel supply and local generation experience. It owns and operates Generadora Gatun, a 670 megawatt combined cycle plant on Isla Telfers in Colon province built from March 2022 for about 1.2 billion dollars, made up of two General Electric gas turbines of 200 megawatts each and a steam turbine of about 220 megawatts. The plant burns liquefied natural gas delivered by pipeline from the neighbouring Costa Norte LNG import terminal, entered commercial operation in October 2024 and is the largest gas fired generator in Central America, selling firm capacity and energy into Panama's national grid.
Source
Grupo Energía Gas Panamá files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Construirán planta eléctrica a base de gas natural licuado en el caribe panameño (Bloomberg Línea), Gatún power station (Global Energy Monitor) and Generadora Gatún inicia operación comercial en Panamá tras invertir $1,200 millones (El Capital Financiero). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- The AES Corporation, as of 31 Dec 2025. Same itemized FY2025 10-K equity-method table as sPower above. Carrying Value $135 million (2025), $194 million (2024); effective Ownership 24% (2025), 24% (2024). Held indirectly: AES Panama (a 49%-owned entity that AES nonetheless CONSOLIDATES, presumably via governance/voting control rights not detailed in the filing) itself owns 49% of Grupo Energía Gas Panamá, giving AES an effective 24% look-through interest, which is what is recorded here rather than the 49% figure at either intermediate level. source
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Grupo Energía Gas Panamá where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
