Description
Trane Technologies plc, incorporated in Ireland, makes heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and transport refrigeration systems under the Trane, American Standard and Thermo King brands. Its range runs from commercial chillers, rooftop units, building controls and data center cooling through residential heat pumps and furnaces to truck, trailer, rail and marine refrigeration units, and it also sells installation, service contracts, parts and rentals. Revenue was $21.32 billion in 2025, of which equipment supplied $13.98 billion and services $7.34 billion; by region the Americas segment produced $17.17 billion, EMEA $2.80 billion and Asia Pacific $1.35 billion. The company was named Ingersoll-Rand plc until 2 March 2020, when it renamed itself after separating its industrial business into Gardner Denver, now Ingersoll Rand Inc. It employed about 44,000 people in 62 countries at the end of 2025.
Equity stakes Trane Technologies plc holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 1 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,721 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,721 managers reported a position, together holding 191.6m shares, or 86.7% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 221.1m shares outstanding at 24 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Trane Technologies plc is an Irish-domiciled public limited company; its listed instrument is ordinary shares, par value $1.00 (Section 12(b) registration: 'Ordinary Shares, Par Value $1.00 per Share'), not common stock. CUSIP G8994E103 carries a G-prefix reflecting the Irish domicile; this is expected, not an error. Authorized share capital also includes a small class of EUR-denominated ordinary shares and preference shares, none of which were outstanding at 30 June 2026 or 31 December 2025 per the Q2 2026 10-Q equity note.
- Holdings: the Q2 2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K were both searched for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated', 'joint venture', 'investments in affiliates', 'equity investment', 'minority interest', 'Mitsubishi' and 'Thermo King'. 'Mitsubishi' and 'unconsolidated' returned no hits in either filing. The only named, currently-held minority equity position found is the 49% interest in Kieback&Peter (a private German building-automation company) acquired in Q1 2026 and accounted for as an equity method investment in the EMEA segment. No dollar value is disclosed for it; see the holding's method_note for why the $1,976.1 million 'Other noncurrent assets' balance is not used to size it. LiquidStack, a data-center liquid-cooling company in which Trane previously held a minority interest, had its remaining interest acquired during H1 2026 and is now wholly owned (fully consolidated), so it is not a current holding. 'Thermo King' is one of Trane's own two operating brands, not an investee.
- Register reconciliation on the top four holders. Trane's 2026 proxy (Record Date 9 April 2026) reports the following >5% holders sourced from Schedule 13G/A filings: The Vanguard Group 18,712,060 shares (8.5%, disaggregated reporting note), BlackRock, Inc. 17,231,559 shares (7.8%, 13G/A dated 23 Apr 2025, position as of 31 Mar 2025), JPMorgan Chase & Co. 16,405,164 shares (7.4%, 13G/A dated 23 Jan 2026, position as of 31 Dec 2025), and FMR LLC 11,368,697 shares (5.1%). The register instead uses each manager's own Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 June 2026 position dates), which is more current for BlackRock and Vanguard but shows JPMorgan LOWER (12,562,815 vs the proxy's 16,405,164) and FMR LOWER (10,085,086 vs 11,368,697), consistent with position reductions between the respective 13G dates and 30 June 2026 rather than a data error. Notably, EDGAR's own filing history for CIK 0001466258 (checked via both the browse-edgar SC 13 filter and the submissions.json feed) shows no Schedule 13G or 13G/A filed since 7 November 2024 (BlackRock), which does not match the proxy's citations of BlackRock and JPMorgan 13G/A filings dated April 2025 and January 2026 respectively; this discrepancy is recorded but not resolved within the time budget.
- The Vanguard rule. Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, consistent with the January 2026 reorganisation of Vanguard's 13F filing structure seen elsewhere in this project. Its Trane Technologies position is instead reported by two successor entities, Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC, which are summed into the single Vanguard row per the project's rule 7.
- Wells Fargo, Charles Schwab Investment Management, MFS and Capital Research Global Investors were also checked (all filed Q2 2026 13F-HR with a Trane position: Wells Fargo 840,041 shares, Schwab 1,770,762 shares, MFS 1,518,752 shares, Capital Research Global Investors 1,408,884 shares) but are ranked below the twelve institutional holders included here, so are omitted from the register per the brief's top 8-12 requirement; see unknowns for these figures if a longer tail is wanted.
- Insider ownership is immaterial and there is no dual-class or founder-control structure. The proxy states no individual director or executive officer, and the 19-person group as a whole, beneficially owns 1% or more of outstanding ordinary shares.
- Percentages for the twelve institutional register rows are computed against 220,023,177 ordinary shares outstanding as of 24 July 2026 (Q2 2026 10-Q cover page). The two insider rows use the proxy's own denominator of 221,122,077 shares as of the 9 April 2026 Record Date.
- Market capitalisation of $104.54 billion and the $475.14 share price are stockanalysis.com's intraday figures as of 17 August 2026. Cross-check: 220,023,177 shares x $475.14 implies approximately $104.55 billion, consistent with the reported market cap.
- Self-gate check: summing the twelve non-aggregate, non-insider register rows gives 96,424,147 shares against 220,023,177 shares outstanding, or 43.82%, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The fair value, cost, or carrying value of Trane's 49% Kieback&Peter equity method investment. Neither the Q2 2026 10-Q nor the FY2025 10-K discloses a purchase price or standalone balance for this investment; it is folded into a combined 'Other noncurrent assets' line ($1,976.1 million at 30 June 2026) that covers many unrelated items, so no individual figure could be sourced without inventing one.
- Whether Trane holds any other equity method investments or joint ventures besides Kieback&Peter. The FY2025 10-K accounting policy note states 'Partially-owned equity affiliates generally represent 20-50% ownership interests' (plural), but Kieback&Peter is the only one specifically named in either the 10-Q or 10-K searched.
- Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc or Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co) were not individually checked for a Trane Technologies position; if they hold shares, the true Vanguard aggregate is somewhat higher than the 18,029,633 shares used here.
- The apparent discrepancy between the 2026 proxy's citation of a BlackRock Schedule 13G/A dated 23 April 2025 and a JPMorgan Schedule 13G/A dated 23 January 2026, versus EDGAR's own filing index for CIK 0001466258 (both the browse-edgar SC 13 type filter and the submissions.json feed), which shows no Schedule 13G or 13G/A filed on Trane Technologies stock since 7 November 2024. Not resolved within the time budget.
- Trane's Q3 2026 10-Q was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 (checked against the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0001466258), so any equity investment activity in that quarter is not reflected.
- Wells Fargo (840,041 shares), Charles Schwab Investment Management (1,770,762 shares), MFS (1,518,752 shares) and Capital Research Global Investors (1,408,884 shares) were sourced from their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings but excluded from the register as ranked below the top twelve institutional holders; see notes for their figures and source context if needed.
