The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 615 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
615 managers reported a position, together holding 481.9m shares, or 89.1% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of a share count taken later than this quarter, because the count in force at the snapshot is not published as a structured fact for this company. Where the count has moved since, the figures are off by that much.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- ONE INSTRUMENT, ONE BASIS: every pct_of_company in this file is computed against TOTAL common shares outstanding, both classes combined (541,052,638 shares: 360,503,747 Class A + 180,548,891 Class B), taken from the FY2026 10-K cover page dated 31 Jul 2026 (period ended 30 Jun 2026, filed 7 Aug 2026, News Corp's fiscal year ends 30 June so this 10-K is FRESHER than the last 10-Q, period 31 Mar 2026, filed 8 May 2026). Every institutional register row's 'shares' figure sums that holder's Class A plus Class B 13F positions (per CUSIP 65249B109 for Class A and 65249B208 for Class B), on the theory that a register row is per COMPANY while a 13F holding is per CLASS, matching the brief's own worked example. VOTING: Class A Common Stock (NWSA) is entitled to vote only in limited circumstances set out in the Charter (treated here as votes_per_share 0); Class B Common Stock (NWS) is generally entitled to one vote per share on all matters and is the sole practical voting class, so voting power concentration is materially different from the economic (share-count) concentration shown in pct_of_company throughout this register.
- THE MURDOCH SUCCESSION RESTRUCTURING (Sep 2025) REPLACED THE MURDOCH FAMILY TRUST: on 6-7 Sep 2025 the Murdoch Family Trust (MFT) was dissolved and its News Corp shares split: approximately 50% of MFT's Class A and Class B shares went to three 'Departing Member Trusts' (for Prudence MacLeod, Elisabeth Murdoch and James Murdoch and their descendants/charities), and the remainder went to three 'LGC Family Trusts' (for Lachlan K. Murdoch, Grace Murdoch and Chloe Murdoch and their descendants/charities), which contributed their shares into LGC Holdco, LLC, managed by Cruden 2, LLC (whose managing director is appointed and removable by Lachlan K. Murdoch). On 10 Sep 2025 the Departing Member Trusts sold 14,071,293 Class B shares in an underwritten public offering and sold LGC Holdco a further 7,125 Class A / 24,256,641 Class B shares (plus Fox Corporation shares) for approximately $1,990 million, funded partly by a $1,000 million collateralized loan from JPMorgan Chase secured on Class B shares. There is NO Murdoch Family Trust row in this file: it no longer exists as a shareholder.
- LGC HOLDCO ROW SOURCING AND OVERLAP HANDLING: shares = 14,250 Class A + 62,584,577 Class B = 62,598,827, both figures as of 10 Sep 2025 (Schedule 13D filed 12 Sep 2025 by Cruden 2/LGC Holdco/Michael Roberson/Lachlan K. Murdoch, CIK 0002084288/0002082634, and confirmed in a Form 4 filed the same day). No Form 4 has been filed by LGC Holdco against News Corp since, so the absolute share count is presumed UNCHANGED. The FY2026 10-K (30 Jun 2026) states LGC Holdco's Class B percentage rose to approximately 34.52% (up from 33.2-33.3% at the Sep 2025 13D/proxy), explicitly attributed to News Corp's own $1 billion Class A/B stock repurchase program shrinking the Class B denominator, not to LGC Holdco buying more shares; recomputing 62,584,577 / 180,548,891 (Class B outstanding at 31 Jul 2026) gives 34.67%, consistent with that explanation to within one month of buyback drift. This 34.52-34.67% Class B / voting figure is NOT used as pct_of_company (which stays on the combined-class, total-shares-outstanding basis at 11.57%); it belongs here as context. VOTING POWER: the Stockholders Agreement (8 Sep 2025) limits LGC Holdco and the LGC Family Trusts, together with K. Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan K. Murdoch, Grace Murdoch and Chloe Murdoch (the 'Murdoch Individuals'), to no more than 44% of the outstanding voting power of Class B shares, with automatic vote forfeiture above that threshold; since Class B is effectively the only voting class, 44% of Class B voting power is close to LGC Holdco's practical voting ceiling, well above its 11.57% economic (whole-company) stake. OVERLAP: the Oct 2025 proxy's 'All current Directors and executive officers as a group (10 members)' row shows 104,801 Class A / 62,590,166 Class B (33.3%), and Lachlan K. Murdoch's own individual row shows 14,364 Class A / 62,586,041 Class B (33.3%): both are, in substance, the LGC Holdco stake (62,584,577 Class B) plus a handful of shares (1,464-5,589 Class B, 114-90,551 Class A) held directly by Mr. Murdoch or other directors/officers. Neither the officers group nor Mr. Murdoch individually is added as a separate row, to avoid re-creating the Marriott/chunk-15 double-count: LGC Holdco alone stands in for this entire block.
- SOF LTD: a Cayman Islands entity (CIK 0001697569) holding only Class B shares. Its sole Schedule 13G on record was filed 14 Feb 2023 (event date 31 Dec 2022), reporting 9,781,882 Class B shares, 5.1% of Class B as calculated against 193,276,309 Class B shares outstanding at that time. This exact share count (9,781,882) is independently corroborated by the Oct 2025 proxy's beneficial ownership table (listing SOF Ltd at 9,781,882 Class B shares, 5.2% of the then-current, smaller Class B count) and by this project's own 31-Mar-2026 13F-style snapshot register (data/registers/NWSA.json), both showing the identical figure, which is why it is used here despite the underlying 13G being from 2023: no share transactions appear to have occurred since. No relationship to Starboard Value LP was found (SOF Ltd's 13G lists no affiliated reporting persons and no investment-manager relationship); the two are treated as distinct, non-overlapping holders. value_usd for both LGC Holdco and SOF Ltd is a DERIVED approximation: shares times News Corp's own filed FY2026 10-K cover-page closing prices as of 26 Dec 2025 (Class A $26.22, Class B $29.87, the last business day of the second fiscal quarter), not a dollar figure taken directly from either holder's own filing (13D/13G filings do not state dollar values).
- CAPITAL GROUP FAMILY: CHECKED, FOUND ZERO. All seven identifiable Capital Group SEC registrants were checked for their Q2 2026 13F-HR (period 30 Jun 2026, filed 12 Aug 2026): Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849), Capital Research Global Investors (0001422848), Capital International Investors (0001562230), Capital Group Investment Management Pte. Ltd. (0001939970) and Capital Group Private Client Services, Inc. (0001857666) all show NO News Corp row of any kind in their latest 13F-HR; Capital Group Companies, Inc. (0000732812) and Capital Group International, Inc. (0000949308) last filed a 13F in 2002 and are treated as defunct/inactive filers. No Capital Group row appears in this register (holder checked, found at zero, per the Snap-on/EchoStar precedent: a real negative finding, not a gap).
- T. ROWE PRICE: both registrants checked. T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) held 10,920,877 Class A + 170,444 Class B = 11,091,321 shares ($271,166 thousand + $4,783 thousand = $275,949,000), per its own Q2 2026 13F-HR (period 30 Jun 2026, filed 14 Aug 2026). T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612), the separate registrant flagged by the chunk-prompt lessons, was checked and holds ZERO News Corp shares in its own Q2 2026 13F-HR (no row for either CUSIP 65249B109 or 65249B208). BOTH T. Rowe Price CIKs file values in THOUSANDS; the raw filed value (271,166 / 4,783) has been multiplied by 1,000 here. Implied price from the corrected figure (~$24.83/Class A share) matches the implied price from every other Class A 13F row in this register, confirming the thousands conversion is correct.
- VANGUARD: The Vanguard Group, Inc. (parent CIK 0000102909) filed a 13F-NT (a notice carrying NO holdings) for Q2 2026 (filed 13 Aug 2026), and its last Schedule 13G/A for News Corp is dated 13 Feb 2024, before its Jan 2026 internal disaggregation (documented on other companies in this project). Per the brief's rule (parent files NT/zero => sum the successors), thirteen entities whose name contains 'Vanguard' and which file 13F were identified and individually checked for their own Q2 2026 13F-HR (all filed 11-13 Aug 2026): SEVEN hold News Corp shares (Vanguard Asset Management, Ltd. 952,306; Vanguard Capital Management LLC 31,937,594; Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co 2,727,885; Vanguard Global Advisers, LLC 1,053,818; Vanguard Investments Australia, Ltd. 192,341; Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC 22,917,083; Vanguard Personalized Indexing Management, LLC 90,639; total 59,871,666 shares, $1,527,258,383), and FOUR checked and found to hold ZERO (Vanguard Advisers, Inc.; Vanguard Marketing Corporation; Vanguard National Trust Co; Vanguard Capital Wealth Advisors). Vanguard V Venture Partners LLC's only 13F on record is from 2001 and was treated as defunct. This 59,871,666-share family total is reasonably close to (about 0.8% above) this project's own 31-Mar-2026 snapshot figure of 59,370,596 for 'Vanguard' in data/registers/NWSA.json, consistent with normal quarter-to-quarter drift; that snapshot's entity LIST (names/CIKs only, never its share figures) was used to identify which Vanguard entities to check.
- FOXTEL: FULLY DIVESTED, NO ROW. News Corp sold the Foxtel Group to DAZN Group Limited; the transaction closed 2 Apr 2025 (per both the FY2025 and FY2026 10-Ks). Foxtel is classified as discontinued operations in all periods and does not appear in the FY2026 Exhibit 21 subsidiary list. News Corp received a minority (~6%) equity stake in DAZN as partial consideration; see the DAZN holdings row. Telstra Group Ltd, Foxtel's other pre-sale minority owner, also sold its stake in the same transaction. Per the brief's rule, a completed exit is recorded here as a note, not as a row with null shares (which would misread as 'current holder, size unknown').
- DOW JONES, HARPERCOLLINS AND NEWS UK ARE WHOLLY OWNED, EXCLUDED PER THE BRIEF: the FY2026 10-K explicitly and uniquely flags REA Group as News Corp's 'non wholly-owned subsidiary' in two separate places (debt-facility and risk-factor disclosures); no equivalent language appears anywhere for Dow Jones, HarperCollins, News UK, or their segments, and Exhibit 21 lists all of their subsidiary entities without any partial-ownership indication (a 'plain name list with no percentage column,' the same shape the chunk-prompt notes for Labcorp and Darden). These three businesses are treated as wholly owned operating segments and correctly excluded from holdings.
- MOVE, INC.: News Corp holds 80% of Move (the US real-estate listings business); the remaining 20% is held by REA Group, itself a majority-News-Corp subsidiary. Because the only minority holder of Move is a company News Corp already majority-consolidates, Move is not treated as a separate cross-holding row.
- REA GROUP OWNERSHIP TREND: this file's 62.0% (filed, 30 Jun 2026) is higher than the older figures found via web search during this research (approximately 61-61.42%, various aggregator dates in 2024-2025), consistent with REA Group's own on-market share buyback (A$200 million completed during FY2026 per the News Corp 10-K) mechanically raising News Corp's percentage without News Corp buying additional REA shares itself.
- SELF-GATE, computed from this final file exactly as the chart computes it: 13 register rows, none marked is_aggregate and none marked rolls_up_into (no member/container relationships in this file: the potential double-counts, the officers-group row and Lachlan K. Murdoch's individual row, were deliberately NOT added rather than added-then-netted, per the notes above), so every row counts at full value. Summing shares: LGC Holdco 62,598,827 + Vanguard family 59,871,666 + Independent Franchise Partners 41,098,392 + State Street 38,857,342 + BlackRock 38,656,381 + Geode 14,692,675 + 59 North Capital Management 14,380,814 + Dodge & Cox 12,538,190 + T. Rowe Price family 11,091,321 + SOF Ltd 9,781,882 + Point72 7,927,278 + Barclays PLC 7,300,436 + Starboard Value LP 4,471,181 = 323,266,385 shares, which is 59.75% of shares_outstanding (541,052,638). This is ABOVE the brief's 55% flag threshold, checked against the three known causes and none found: (1) not a mixed instrument, every row is common stock summed across the two CUSIPs of the same issuer (65249B109 Class A, 65249B208 Class B), confirmed by a tight implied-price band (~$24.7-25.0/Class-A-equivalent share) across every institutional 13F row; (2) not a mixed basis, every pct_of_company here is computed against the single 541,052,638-share total-outstanding basis, never against one class alone; (3) not a double count, each institutional filer is a distinct CIK/13F position, Capital Group was checked and confirmed at zero rather than assumed, SOF Ltd was checked against Starboard Value LP for an affiliate relationship and found independent, and both the officers-group proxy row and Lachlan K. Murdoch's individual proxy row were deliberately excluded because they are, in substance, the same shares as the LGC Holdco row. The 59.75% concentration is a genuine, sourced feature of this stock: a heavily institutionally-held Nasdaq media company with a dual-class structure and a single family control block (LGC Holdco, 11.57% economic / up to 44% of Class B voting power under the Stockholders Agreement) sitting alongside a normally large set of top-10-to-13 institutional and activist holders.
- No 2026 DEF 14A/annual-meeting proxy has been filed as of this research (20 Aug 2026); the most recent is dated 8 Oct 2025 (for the Nov 2025 annual meeting, using a 10 Sep 2025 record date) and is used here for the LGC Holdco ownership table, the officers-group/Murdoch cross-check, and the SOF Ltd corroboration, not as the primary source for any figure with a fresher filed alternative.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- REA Group's own exact, filed shares-on-issue figure and News Corp's exact REA share count: News Corp discloses only the 62.0% percentage, never a share count. An attempt to read REA Group's own ASX Appendix 4E / FY26 Annual Report PDF directly returned corrupted/unreadable binary content; the 130,710,000-share figure used here is from an aggregator (stockanalysis.com), not a primary REA Group or ASX filing.
- The DMG Media print joint venture's ownership percentage (News UK / DMG Media, England and Scotland printing operations): identified as a real, filed equity-method investee, but no percentage is disclosed in any News Corp SEC filing found, and it shares a combined, unsplit $95 million (30 Jun 2026) equity-method balance with at least one other unnamed investee.
- The current (FY2026) fair or carrying value of the ~6% DAZN Group stake: only the historical $648 million figure as of the 2 Apr 2025 acquisition / 30 Jun 2025 FY2025 10-K is individually disclosed; the FY2026 10-K folds it into a combined $907 million 'equity and other securities' bucket alongside undisclosed China investments and REA Group's own (indirect, two steps removed) stakes in Athena Home Loans and Nexxen International, Ltd.
- The identity and size of News Corp's 'certain investments in China,' mentioned only as part of the same combined $907 million bucket; no entity names or percentages are disclosed.
- Whether LGC Holdco's absolute Class A/Class B share count has changed since the 10 Sep 2025 Schedule 13D and Form 4: no subsequent Form 4 or Schedule 13D/A specific to News Corp (as opposed to Fox Corp) was found as of this research, so the count is presumed unchanged, but this was not confirmed via a fresh, dated ownership filing.
- Roughly two dozen further institutional holders appearing in this project's own 31-Mar-2026 snapshot register (data/registers/NWSA.json) at meaningful size, including JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Northern Trust Corp, Bank of America, Nuveen, Bank of New York Mellon, UBS Group/UBS AM, Citadel Advisors, Amundi, Legal & General, Perpetual Ltd, Robeco, Metropolis Capital, AQR Capital Management, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Yacktman Asset Management, Bank of Montreal, State of Wisconsin Investment Board, Quantinno Capital Management, SEI Investments, Charles Schwab Investment Management, L1 Capital, Asset Value Investors and Deutsche Bank, were not individually re-verified against fresh Q2 2026 13F filings in this session and are excluded from the register rather than reported stale.
