The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,694 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,694 managers reported a position, together holding 513.6m shares, or 90.8% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 565.5m shares outstanding at 27 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- ICE has a single listed class of common stock (NYSE: ICE). Company-level shares_outstanding (561,394,487) is taken from the Q2 2026 10-Q cover page, 'As of July 27, 2026'; the 2026 proxy statement separately reports 566,430,761 shares outstanding as of its own 19 March 2026 record date. Institutional register rows (all dated 30 Jun 2026, from Q2 2026 13F-HR filings) use the 10-Q's 561,394,487 denominator; the two proxy-sourced insider rows use the proxy's own 566,430,761 denominator, per each source's own reporting date, matching the convention used in this project's cme-group.json reference file.
- ICE's richest and most traceable minority stake by far is its combined position in Blockratize, Inc. (Polymarket): Series D Preferred (9.6 million shares, $1.0 billion, closed Oct 2025), Series E Preferred (approximately 4.2 million shares, $600 million, closed Mar 2026), and a common-stock tender (approximately 0.4 million shares, $40 million, Apr 2026). The Series D/E preferred combine for a ~$2.0 billion carrying value and 22% (outstanding) / 14% (fully diluted) ownership as of 30 Jun 2026; the common stock tranche is separately accounted for under the equity method (folded into the same combined equity-method balance as OCC) because the combined stakes give ICE significant influence. Polymarket is private, so none of this appears in any 13F.
- Bakkt (NYSE: BKKT) is ICE's one publicly listed, directly traceable equity holding. ICE's economic interest fell from 54% (Dec 2024) to 31% (Dec 2025) to 18% (Jun 2026), driven entirely by Bakkt's own share and warrant issuances, not by any ICE sale, per ICE's own 10-Q language. The most recent FILED share count, 8,380,362 Class A shares, comes from Bakkt's own 2026 proxy (as of 31 Mar 2026, 27% of Class A then outstanding) and is carried forward to the 30 Jun 2026 valuation date in this file; see the Bakkt holding's method_note for the full cross-check reconciling this against ICE's 10-Q figures and Bakkt's subsequent 10-Q share count.
- OCC (The Options Clearing Corporation): ICE discloses a clean, individually stated 40% ownership percentage in both the FY2025 10-K and the Q2 2026 10-Q, but never an individual carrying value. ICE's 'equity method investments' balance is a combined figure covering OCC together with either Bakkt (FY2025: $414 million combined) or the Polymarket common stock tranche (Q2 2026: $499 million combined), so OCC's value_usd is null here by design, per the rule against attributing a combined balance to a single named investee.
- Searched but found no percentage-of-ownership disclosure for MERSCORP Holdings, Inc. (MERS): ICE's 10-K discusses MERS only as a revenue-generating database/product line with no stated minority ownership percentage, consistent with ICE having acquired the remaining outside stake in MERSCORP in 2023 and now wholly owning it (excluded here as a wholly owned operating subsidiary, not a minority holding). No hits at all for 'Euroclear' or 'Tel Aviv' in either the Q2 2026 10-Q or the FY2025 10-K; ICE does not appear to hold a stake in either as of these filings.
- Register reconciliation on Vanguard and BlackRock. ICE's 2026 proxy states BlackRock, Inc. held 39,066,788 shares (6.9%) per a Schedule 13G/A filed 17 Apr 2025, and The Vanguard Group, Inc. held 57,061,845 shares (10.1%) per a Schedule 13G/A filed 3 Dec 2025. The register instead uses each manager's Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 Jun 2026 position date): BlackRock reports 50,727,686 shares (higher than its stale 13G, consistent with continued index-fund inflows since Apr 2025) and Vanguard's two successor entities sum to 49,476,618 shares (lower than its Dec 2025 13G, plausibly because the 13G aggregates additional Vanguard-affiliated entities beyond the two successors checked here, or reflects a position change since Dec 2025).
- Self-gate check: summing the ten non-aggregate, non-insider institutional register rows (BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, Morgan Stanley, Geode, Wellington, Norges Bank, FMR, JPMorgan, Bank of America) gives 189,388,738 shares against 561,394,487 shares outstanding, or 33.74%, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range for this register.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- OCC's individual carrying value: not disclosed anywhere found in the FY2025 10-K or Q2 2026 10-Q; only the combined equity-method balance and the standalone 40% ownership percentage are stated.
- Precise ownership percentage of ICE's Polymarket common-stock tender: the Q2 2026 10-Q states only 'less than 1% ownership... on both an outstanding and fully diluted basis,' with no exact figure given.
- The composition of the roughly $386 million of 'equity investments without readily determinable fair values' at 30 Jun 2026 not attributable to the named Polymarket Series D/E stake ($2,386 million total per the 10-Q, minus the $2.0 billion Polymarket figure): the 10-Q does not name any further individual investees in this residual.
- Whether Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (several additional Vanguard-linked CIKs appear in this project's Q1-2026 ICE 13F register, e.g. CIKs 0000933478, 0001550100, 0001680208, 0001767306, 0001811242, 0001984256) also hold ICE shares for Q2 2026; not individually re-checked within the time budget.
- Holders ranked below Bank of America on institutional-ownership aggregators (e.g. Harris Associates, T. Rowe Price, Royal Bank of Canada, Northern Trust, Capital Group, Mitsubishi UFJ, UBS, Parnassus, Goldman Sachs, Amundi, all visible in this project's Q1-2026 ICE 13F register, plus this task's verified-CIK list names for Franklin Resources, Capital Research Global Investors, Wells Fargo, MFS and Charles Schwab IM) were not individually re-verified against their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings, since the ten institutional holders already sourced satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement.
- No Schedule 13D/13G newer than the proxy-cited BlackRock (17 Apr 2025) and Vanguard (3 Dec 2025) filings was independently located or checked against EDGAR's SC 13 filing index for CIK 0001571949 within the time budget; the register leans on Q2 2026 13F-HR data as instructed, per the brief.
