Description
HP Inc. is an American multinational information technology company with its headquarters in Palo Alto, California, that develops personal computers (PCs), printers and other related supplies, as well as 3D printing services. It is the world's second-largest personal computer vendor by unit sales after Lenovo and ahead of Dell as of 2024.
Equity stakes HP Inc. holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 7 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,012 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,012 managers reported a position, together holding 829.0m shares, or 90.6% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 914.5m shares outstanding at 20 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- CROSS-HOLDING WITH HPE: checked from HP Inc.'s side, per the assignment. Searched the FY2025 10-K and the Q2 FY2026 10-Q for every mention of 'Hewlett Packard Enterprise' (20 hits in the 10-K, 12 in the 10-Q). Every mention concerns the 2015 separation and distribution agreement between the two companies: cross-indemnities for pre-separation liabilities and shared litigation matters (e.g. patent cases inherited from the old Hewlett-Packard Company), a joint brand holding structure under which both companies retain rights to use variations of the legacy Hewlett-Packard and HP branding, and reputational risk from shared branding. No mention of any equity stake, cross-shareholding, investment, or ownership interest running in either direction between HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise was found anywhere in either filing. This corroborates HPE's file (data/research/hpe.json), which independently found no mention of HP Inc. and recorded an empty holdings-side search: two siblings separated from one predecessor in 2015 hold nothing in each other, confirmed from both sides now.
- HOLDINGS: HP Inc.'s FY2025 10-K (filed 10 Dec 2025, period ended 31 Oct 2025) was searched for 'equity method' (0 hits), 'unconsolidated' (1 hit, a boilerplate risk-factor disclaimer about not using off-balance-sheet special purpose entities), 'joint venture' (2 hits, both generic strategy/valuation language, not naming any specific venture), 'non-marketable' (3 hits, all pointing to the single combined balance described below), 'noncontrolling interest' (0 hits) and 'strategic investment' (0 hits). Unlike Quest Diagnostics or PPG, HP's 10-K body text names no individual joint-venture or equity-method investee anywhere. Per the brief's instruction to check Exhibit 21 when the equity note is a single unsized balance, fetched Exhibit 21 ('Subsidiaries of HP Inc.', as of 31 Oct 2025) directly and searched it for ownership-percentage annotations: found exactly 7 entities marked '(50% owned)', all private, all outside HP's core reporting segments and immaterial in scale (two US Delaware entities of unclear purpose, and an Iberian managed-print-services cluster of 5 entities across Spain and Portugal). These are recorded as the holdings side of this file, each at pct_of_target 50 with shares and value_usd null (no valuation disclosed anywhere for any of them). This mirrors the Quest Diagnostics precedent (also exactly 7 JVs found the same way) and the PPG precedent (8 JVs including a 50/50 India venture).
- COMBINED BALANCE, NOT ASSIGNED: the FY2025 10-K's fair-value note discloses a single combined figure for 'Non-marketable equity securities in privately held companies', included in Other current and non-current assets: $137 million at 31 Oct 2025 and $107 million at 31 Oct 2024. The Q2 FY2026 10-Q (filed 28 May 2026, period ended 30 Apr 2026) repeats and updates this same note: $142 million at 30 Apr 2026 and $137 million at 31 Oct 2025 (the Q2 figure is the more current one). Neither filing names any constituent investee, so per the brief's rule against assigning a combined balance to any one holding, no holdings row is recorded for this bucket; the combined figures are recorded here and in unknowns instead.
- EXCLUDED, FINANCING: HP's 10-K describes third-party short-term financing arrangements that facilitate the working capital requirements of certain customers and channel partners, including trade-receivables factoring (Interest and Other, Net shows Factoring costs of $125 million in fiscal 2025). This is receivables factoring, not equity stakes in other companies, and is excluded from holdings per the brief's explicit instruction, matching the treatment in HPE's, Paccar's and Snap-on's files. Unlike HPE, HP Inc. does not appear to run a large captive leasing/financing subsidiary of its own scale: no 'HP Financial Services' entity, financing receivables portfolio, or leasing book comparable to HPE's HPEFS was found in the 10-K or 10-Q text; the closest entity found is a wholly owned 'HP Singapore Financing Pte. Ltd.' in Exhibit 21, with no percentage annotation (i.e. 100% owned, an ordinary treasury/financing subsidiary, not a joint venture or an equity stake).
- EXCLUDED, TREASURY: available-for-sale debt securities (corporate and foreign government notes and bonds, contractual maturities of $54 million amortized cost / $56 million fair value at 30 Apr 2026) are corporate treasury holdings, not equity stakes in other operating companies, and are excluded per the brief.
- EXCLUDED, PENSION PLAN ASSETS: the 10-K's fair-value note also describes 'alternative investments, which primarily consist of private equities and hedge funds... such as limited partnerships and joint ventures' valued at NAV. This footnote is attached to HP's defined-benefit pension and post-retirement plan asset disclosures, not to HP's own corporate balance sheet equity investments. These are plan-trust assets managed on behalf of pension beneficiaries, not HP Inc.'s own equity stakes, and are excluded.
- FISCAL PERIODS USED: HP Inc.'s fiscal year ends in late October. Confirmed via the EDGAR submissions API (fetched live during this research) that as of 18 Aug 2026 the FY2025 10-K (filed 10 Dec 2025, period ended 31 Oct 2025) is still the latest annual report and the Q2 FY2026 10-Q (filed 28 May 2026, period ended 30 Apr 2026) is still the latest quarterly filing; no Q3 FY2026 10-Q (which would cover the quarter ended approximately 31 Jul 2026) had been filed yet. Both filings were used for the holdings-side search; the 10-Q's fresher $142 million non-marketable-equity figure was preferred over the 10-K's $137 million where both were available. The 2026 DEF 14A proxy (filed 25 Feb 2026) is the latest proxy and was used for the register's insider and stale-13G data. Register basis for the top holders is Q2 2026 13F-HR filings, period 30 Jun 2026, filed 12-14 Aug 2026, the freshest available as of this research.
- SHARE BASIS: company.shares_outstanding (914,522,690) is the dei:EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding value from the Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover page, as of 20 May 2026, taken directly from SEC's XBRL company-concept API. The trailing five quarterly cover-page counts (942,703,029 at 24 Feb 2025 down to 914,522,690 at 20 May 2026) show a smooth, continuous decline consistent with HP's large ongoing buyback program and no jump or halving consistent with a stock split; no split was found or is asserted.
- STALE PROXY 13G TRAP CONFIRMED (same shape as HPE's file, opposite direction on one holder): the Feb 2026 DEF 14A's 5%-holder table cites Schedule 13G/A filings from Nov 2024 and Apr 2025, all with underlying data no later than 31 Mar 2025, well over a year stale relative to the Q2 2026 13Fs used here. Vanguard: proxy cites 130,020,271 shares (14.2%) vs. the fresh 13F-summed 127,487,900 shares (13.94%), the stale figure LARGER by about 2.5 million shares. BlackRock: proxy cites 87,477,843 shares (9.6%) vs. the fresh 13F 107,463,839 shares (11.75%), the stale figure smaller by about 20 million shares, a large swing over roughly 15 months. State Street: proxy cites 51,804,957 shares (5.7%) vs. the fresh 13F 52,843,678 shares (5.78%), close but still stale-smaller. All three register rows here use the fresh 13F; the stale proxy figures are recorded for comparison only.
- VANGUARD ROLL-UP: Vanguard Group Inc (parent CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT (a notice carrying no holdings) for both Q1 2026 and Q2 2026, confirmed directly on EDGAR. Following the brief's rule, the position is reported entirely by successor entities. The same 7-entity Vanguard family already identified in this project's own Q1 2026 register (data/registers/HPQ.json) and in the sibling HPE file was re-fetched at Q2 2026 and confirmed to still be the full set holding HP Inc: summed to 127,487,900 shares (13.94%). No parent-plus-successor double-count risk, since the parent filed nothing to double.
- CAPITAL GROUP CHECKED, HOLDS ZERO: per the brief's explicit instruction to check all Capital Group registrants, fetched Q2 2026 13F-HR filings for Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849), Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230) and Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848) and searched each by both issuer-name fragment and by CUSIP 40434L105. All three returned zero matching rows. No Capital Group row is carried in this register; this is a checked, dated finding, not an unchecked gap.
- T. ROWE PRICE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT CHECKED, HOLDS ZERO: the separate registrant T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612) was checked at Q2 2026 (by name fragment and by CUSIP) and confirmed to hold zero HP Inc shares, unlike its sibling registrant T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255), which does hold and is carried in the register above.
- IMPLIED-PRICE CROSSCHECK: computing value_usd / shares for every Q2 2026 13F row in this register clusters tightly at approximately $21.94 per share (Vanguard, BlackRock, Dodge & Cox, Geode, Primecap, and the rescaled T. Rowe Price row all land within a cent of $21.94), which is the internal consistency check that confirmed the T. Rowe Price thousands-trap rescale was the right correction rather than a guess. State Street alone implies approximately $22.23, a roughly 1.3% outlier not investigated further within the time budget.
- NO STRATEGIC OR ACTIVIST HOLDER FOUND TODAY, VERIFIED BOTH WAYS: the brief flagged that HP Inc. has historically had a large strategic or activist holder and asked for the current position to be verified in both directions. Checked EDGAR's full filing history for HP Inc. (CIK 0000047217) for Schedule 13D and 13D/A filings: none since 2010 (the entire 2010-2026 window is silent for 13D activity; the last 13D-type filing predates even the 2015 Hewlett Packard Enterprise separation). Checked the 2026 DEF 14A's 5%-holder table: it lists only The Vanguard Group, BlackRock and State Street Corporation, all classic passive index managers, none with a footnote referencing a letter agreement, standstill, cooperation agreement or board nomination right (contrast with HPE's file, where Elliott Investment Management's board seat via a July 2025 letter agreement was found in HPE's own 2026 proxy and typed strategic). Searched the HP proxy for 'standstill', 'activist', 'cooperation agreement', 'letter agreement', 'board seat' and found zero hits on all five terms. Conclusion: as of this research (18 Aug 2026), HP Inc. carries no activist or strategic 5%-plus holder; this is a verified absence, not an unchecked gap. Dodge & Cox (4.66%) and Primecap (2.72%) are large, real active-management positions but are ordinary institutional asset managers with no board representation or standstill agreement disclosed anywhere, and are typed active rather than strategic accordingly.
- PROXY GROUP AGGREGATE NOT USED, FLAGGED AS INTERNALLY INCONSISTENT: the 2026 DEF 14A's beneficial ownership table lists 'All current Directors, Director Nominees and Executive Officers as a Group (18 persons)' at 1,679,955 shares. Verified this figure directly against the filing's raw HTML (not just the text-stripped extraction) to rule out a parsing error: the filed number is genuinely 1,679,955. However, summing the individually named rows immediately above it in the SAME table (12 directors/nominees plus 5 named executive officers, 17 named persons in total, for a stated group of 18) gives 3,737,334 shares, more than double the group's own stated total, and CEO Enrique J. Lores alone (1,773,577 shares, including 888,908 shares held through a limited partnership he controls, per footnote 12) already exceeds the group total by himself. This is an apparent internal inconsistency in HP's own proxy statement, not a computation introduced by this research. Per the brief's 'reconcile, do not overwrite' rule, this aggregate is NOT included as a register row here: using it as an is_aggregate rollup container would force a negative or zero residual under the chart's own formula (max(0, raw - members)) and would effectively hide or understate Lores's real position rather than display it. Instead, only Lores is carried individually, as the notable insider position per the brief's founder/insider guidance, and this discrepancy is reported here for the maintainer's attention rather than silently omitted or silently 'corrected' with an invented number.
- SELF-GATE (computed on this final file, exactly as the chart computes it: no rows here roll up into any container, since the unreliable group aggregate was excluded, so every row counts at full value): 8 register rows. Vanguard 127,487,900 + BlackRock 107,463,839 + State Street 52,843,678 + Dodge & Cox 42,627,828 + Geode 30,617,807 + Primecap 24,885,325 + T. Rowe Price Associates 1,333,609 + Enrique J. Lores 1,773,577 = 389,033,563 shares against 914,522,690 shares outstanding = 42.54%. This sits within the 25-45% band the chunk prompt describes as typical, close to its upper edge, consistent with HP Inc carrying two sizeable active managers (Dodge & Cox, Primecap) on top of the standard index cluster.
- Market capitalization ($27.40 billion) is stockanalysis.com's reported figure as of the 18 Aug 2026 page load. Cross-check: $27.40bn / 914,522,690 shares implies a share price of approximately $29.96, plausible against the ~$21.94/share level implied by the Q2 2026 (30 Jun 2026) 13F filings two months earlier; no independent same-day share-price figure was separately fetched within the time budget.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The identities of the entities inside HP's $142 million (as of 30 Apr 2026) combined 'non-marketable equity securities in privately held companies' balance: neither the FY2025 10-K nor the Q2 FY2026 10-Q names any constituent investee, so per the brief's rule this cannot be assigned to any named holding.
- The purpose, size, or economics of the two Delaware 50%-owned entities in Exhibit 21 (Hewlett-Packard Company Archives LLC and HP Hewlett Packard Group LLC): no narrative disclosure anywhere in the 10-K or 10-Q describes what either entity does or holds.
- Whether the 'CM Advanced Printing Iberia Portuguese Branch Office' row in Exhibit 21 represents a legally and economically distinct 50% stake from the 'CM Advanced Printing Iberia, S.A.' (Spain) row, or is simply a branch registration of the same joint venture counted twice in the exhibit's list; both are recorded as separate rows here per the exhibit's own formatting, with value_usd null on both so no dollar amount is at risk of double counting.
- Per-entity dollar values for the 7 Vanguard successor entities were not independently reconciled beyond summing the shares and values each entity's own 13F-HR reports for HP Inc; no separate cross-check against a consolidated Vanguard-family total was available.
- Individual current 13F share counts for other large Q1 2026 register holders not re-verified against fresh Q2 2026 filings within the time budget: Invesco Ltd., DNB Asset Management AS, Morgan Stanley, AQR Capital Management, UBS Group, Northern Trust, LSV Asset Management, Schroder Investment Management, Goldman Sachs, and others listed in this project's own data/registers/HPQ.json. These were left out of the register above rather than carried forward on a stale Q1 2026 basis, consistent with the brief's preference for fresh 13Fs over stale ones.
- Whether any additional Vanguard-affiliated 13F filer beyond the 7 identified holds HP Inc shares was not independently re-enumerated from a fresh EDGAR company search for 'vanguard' 13F-HR filers; the 7-entity list was carried over from this project's own Q1 2026 register and confirmed still active and still holding in Q2 2026, but a brand-new 8th entity appearing for the first time in Q2 2026 would not have been caught by that method.
- The reason for the roughly 1.3% implied-price gap on State Street's Q2 2026 13F row relative to the tight cluster on every other filer of CUSIP 40434L105 was not investigated further within the time budget.
- The reason for the apparent internal inconsistency in HP's own 2026 DEF 14A proxy, where the stated 'All current Directors, Director Nominees and Executive Officers as a Group (18 persons)' total (1,679,955 shares) is smaller than the sum of the individually named rows in the same table (3,737,334 shares): this was verified against the filing's raw HTML to rule out an extraction error on this project's part, but the cause of the discrepancy within HP's own filing was not determined.
