Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from General Mills, Inc.'s own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure Wikidata carries for 2011, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Description
General Mills, Inc. is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of branded consumer foods sold through retail stores. Founded on the banks of the Mississippi River at Saint Anthony Falls in Minneapolis, the company originally gained fame for being a large flour miller. It is headquartered in Golden Valley, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis.
Equity stakes General Mills, Inc. holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 2 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,286 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,286 managers reported a position, together holding 451.9m shares, or 84.7% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 533.7m shares outstanding at 15 Jun 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Fiscal periods used. General Mills' fiscal year ends in late May, not December. The primary source for company financials and the joint-venture (holdings) note is the FY2026 Form 10-K, fiscal year ended 31 May 2026, filed 1 Jul 2026 (accession 0001628280-26-046466). This is the most recent 10-K or 10-Q on file as of the 18 Aug 2026 research date: the last 10-Q was filed 18 Mar 2026 for the quarter ended 22 Feb 2026 (fiscal Q3 2026), and no Q1 FY2027 10-Q had yet been filed. Insider ownership comes from the 2026 proxy (DEF 14A, filed 13 Aug 2026, record/ownership date 31 Jul 2026). Institutional register rows come from Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR filings, position date 30 Jun 2026, all filed in Aug 2026, which is more current than either the 10-K's 31 May 2026 balance-sheet date or the proxy's stale 13G-based 5-percent-owner table.
- No pct_of_target field in this file is a fraction. Both CPW and HDJ are recorded as pct_of_target: 50, matching the 10-K's own words ('a 50 percent interest'), not 0.5. Checked explicitly against the chunk-12 defect described in the brief.
- The combined-balance trap applies to both holdings rows. General Mills' FY2026 10-K, Note 5, discloses only ONE combined 'Cumulative investments' balance for CPW and HDJ together: $254.7 million at 31 May 2026 (versus $431.8 million at 25 May 2025), plus combined goodwill/intangibles of $428.5 million and combined aggregate advances of $310.9 million. No split by venture is disclosed for any balance-sheet line, so value_usd is null on both holdings rows and the combined figures are recorded here rather than assigned to either venture individually. Net sales ARE disclosed separately by venture (CPW $1,678.5 million, HDJ $341.7 million, both fiscal 2026, 100 percent basis) but net sales are not a carrying value and were not used to size either position.
- The HDJ joint-venture partner is not named anywhere in the FY2026 10-K (the filing was searched for 'Suntory' and other candidate terms with zero hits), so it is left as an unknown rather than filled from outside memory. The CPW partner, Nestle S.A., is explicitly named in the filing.
- No other equity investments, non-marketable securities, minority stakes or venture-capital-style holdings were found. The FY2026 10-K was searched for 'non-marketable equity', 'minority interest', 'strategic investment' and 'venture capital', all zero hits, in addition to the joint-venture terms above. Holdings are therefore limited to the two named joint ventures, both unsized individually, a sourced finding rather than a gap.
- The Vanguard Group row substitutes the sum of two successor 13F filers (Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC) for a single 'Vanguard' row, per the brief's rule for a parent that filed Form 13F-NT (confirmed for CIK 0000102909, quarter ended 30 Jun 2026). BlackRock's current 13F filer is CIK 0002012383; an older CIK, 0001364742, last filed a 13F for Q2 2024 and was not used.
- Reconciliation against the 2026 proxy's own 5-percent-owner table (built from stale Schedule 13G/13G-A filings: BlackRock as of 30 Nov 2024, Vanguard Capital Management as of 31 Mar 2026, State Street as of 31 Dec 2023, Vanguard Portfolio Management undated in the excerpt read). The proxy shows BlackRock 55,943,321 (10.5%), Vanguard Capital Management 40,147,406 (7.5%), State Street 31,552,421 (5.9%), Vanguard Portfolio Management 27,944,971 (5.2%). These differ from the fresher Q2 2026 13F-HR figures used in the register (BlackRock 62,689,876; Vanguard Capital Mgmt 34,829,056; Vanguard Portfolio Mgmt 26,670,792; State Street 34,003,904). The 13F figures are used as the primary sourced numbers because they are more current (30 Jun 2026 vs. Dec 2023 to Mar 2026 for the 13G data) and because the register chart is meant to reflect the most recent position, consistent with the treatment in ameriprise.json.
- General Mills has a single class of common stock and no dual-class or founder-control structure. Chairman and CEO Jeffrey L. Harmening's and the full 24-person director/officer group's beneficial ownership are each less than 1 percent of outstanding shares per the 2026 proxy.
- Self-gate, computed the way the chart computes it: 11 register rows, summing to 193,772,490 shares (Harmening's 2,178,244 shares counted at full value as a member; the 24-person group counted at its residual of 4,408,795 minus 2,178,244 = 2,230,551 to avoid double-counting), against 533,708,396 shares outstanding, or 36.31 percent, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range.
- Dollar values for the two insider rows are null: the proxy gives share counts and a '*' (less than 1 percent) label but no dollar value, and no share price as of the 31 Jul 2026 record date was independently sourced, so a value was not estimated.
- Market cap ($20.31 billion) and share price ($37.98) are stockanalysis.com's figures as of the 17 Aug 2026 close. Cross-check: 533,708,396 shares x $37.98 implies about $20.27 billion, close to the reported $20.31 billion (stockanalysis.com's own shares-outstanding figure, 534.63 million, is a slightly more recent estimate than the 10-K cover page's 533,708,396 as of 15 Jun 2026, accounting for the small gap).
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The individual carrying values of the CPW and HDJ equity-method investments. The FY2026 10-K discloses only a combined 'Cumulative investments' balance of $254.7 million (31 May 2026) covering both ventures together, with no split disclosed anywhere in the filing searched.
- The identity of General Mills' joint-venture partner in Haagen-Dazs Japan, Inc. (HDJ). Not named in the FY2026 10-K.
- Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, Vanguard Global Advisers) were not individually checked for GIS holdings within the time budget; if any hold GIS shares, the true Vanguard family aggregate is somewhat higher than the 61,499,848 shares used here.
- General Mills' Q1 FY2027 10-Q (covering the quarter that would include most of summer 2026) had not yet been filed as of 18 Aug 2026 per its EDGAR submissions feed, so no equity-investment activity after 31 May 2026 is reflected.
- Whether any other institutional holder ranks between JPMorgan (0.61%) and the next-largest unchecked filer was not exhaustively surveyed; the nine institutional rows plus two insider rows here satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 guidance including the mandated Capital Group and T. Rowe Price family checks, but the full universe of GIS 13F filers was not ranked.
