Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from FirstEnergy Corp.'s own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure the Wikipedia article states for 2024, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Description
FirstEnergy Corp. is an electric utility headquartered in Akron, Ohio. It was established when Ohio Edison merged with Centerior Energy in 1997. Its subsidiaries and affiliates are involved in distributing, transmitting, and generating electricity, energy management, and other energy-related services. Its ten electric utility operating companies comprise one of the United States' largest investor-owned utilities, based on serving 6 million customers within a 65,000-square-mile (170,000 km2) area of Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.
Equity stakes FirstEnergy Corp. holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 3 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 909 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
909 managers reported a position, together holding 521.5m shares, or 90.2% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 578.4m shares outstanding at 31 Mar 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- FET holding: FirstEnergy's own 50.1% and Brookfield's 49.9% in FirstEnergy Transmission, LLC come directly from FirstEnergy's 8-K filed 20 May 2026 announcing the Fourth A&R FET LLC Agreement, and are corroborated by the Q2 2026 10-Q. The 10-Q's FET Noncontrolling Interest balance ($1,491 million at 30 Jun 2026, $1,416 million at 31 Dec 2025) sizes Brookfield's 49.9% share of FET's net assets, not FirstEnergy's own 50.1% interest; that balance was deliberately NOT used to size or estimate the FirstEnergy-side holding row, per this project's rule against assigning another party's noncontrolling-interest balance to the company's own stake.
- Valley Link (FET 34%) and Grid Growth Ventures (FET 50%) are both held through FET, itself a 50.1%-owned consolidated subsidiary of FirstEnergy; both are recorded at FET's own percentage per this project's convention for a not-wholly-owned consolidated entity's holdings, matching how Nucor's Nucor-Yamato/California Steel ventures and Steel Dynamics' Aluminum Dynamics stake are handled elsewhere in this database.
- PATH-WV (a former 50%-owned FE/AEP transmission joint venture) is fully exited: FirstEnergy's FY2025 10-K still carried a $17 million equity-method carrying value at 31 Dec 2025, but the Q2 2026 10-Q reports FET received approximately $21 million in cash 'after the liquidation of PATH was authorized' during Q2 2026. No holding row is carried for it; this is a note, not a null row.
- Global Holding (the Signal Peak coal-mining joint venture) is also fully exited: FirstEnergy Ventures Corp. (FEV) sold its entire 33-1/3% equity ownership on 16 Jul 2025 per the FY2025 10-K. No holding row is carried for it.
- FirstEnergy's FY2025 10-K discloses one combined 'Equity method investments' balance of $38 million (31 Dec 2025) and $84 million (31 Dec 2024) within 'Investments' on the Consolidated Balance Sheets, covering Valley Link (immaterial), PATH-WV ($17 million as of 31 Dec 2025, since liquidated) and any other minor equity-method positions together. This combined figure is not attributed to any single investee's value_usd in this file; it is recorded here only as a note, following the same rule that produced a null value_usd for both Valley Link and (implicitly, pre-liquidation) PATH-WV.
- Exhibit 21 (List of Subsidiaries, FY2025 10-K) is a bare name list with no ownership-percentage column and no joint ventures listed; it was checked and found to be a genuine negative, consistent with this project's finding on other registrants (Labcorp, Darden) that Exhibit 21's format varies and sometimes carries nothing useful.
- Register self-gate (computed on the final file exactly as the chart computes it: sum of raw 'shares' across all 13 register rows, none of which are marked is_aggregate or rolls_up_into, divided by shares_outstanding): 361,414,705 shares / 578,639,932 = 62.46%. This is above this project's usual 25-45% range (flag above 55%). It was investigated rather than shipped blind: each of the 13 rows was independently sourced from that holder's own fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR (or, for GIC and the officer/director group, its own distinct primary filing), with CIKs and info-table URLs cited per row, and no two rows were found to share a CIK, a parent/subsidiary relationship, or overlapping beneficial ownership. The concentration is explained by FirstEnergy's unusually large roster of sizeable non-index holders on top of an already-large Big Four institutional base: Capital Group (13.60%), Vanguard (11.96%), BlackRock (8.60%) and State Street (7.02%) alone sum to 41.17%, matching (allowing for share-count growth since March 2026) FirstEnergy's own 2026 proxy 5%-owner table of Capital World Investors 13.6%, Vanguard 11.31%, BlackRock 7.2% and State Street 7.19%. On top of that base sit two large non-index positions that are unusual for a register of this size: GIC Private Limited, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund (5.01%, stale, see its own method_note), and Blackstone Inc./Blackstone Infrastructure Partners, a strategic holder with board representation (4.98%, unchanged since a 2022 13D/A and reconfirmed in Blackstone's own fresh Q2 2026 13F). The remaining rows (Boston Partners, Geode, Invesco, Morgan Stanley, T. Rowe Price, FMR, and the officer/director group) add a further 16.28% and were each individually fetched, not aggregated. Corroborated first-hand by the coordinator against this project's own 13F-derived register (data/registers/FE.json, period 31 Mar 2026, built by a separate pipeline from the bulk 13F data): its top THIRTEEN holders sum to 61.86% of the same denominator against the 62.46% recorded here, and its total institutional ownership is 450,188,118 shares, 77.80%. Blackstone Inc. appears in that snapshot at exactly 28,832,099 shares, the identical figure carried here, so the strategic block is confirmed from two unrelated sources. GIC Private Limited is correctly ABSENT from the 13F data, which independently supports the finding that it files no 13F and that its Schedule 13G is genuinely the best available source for that row. The level is therefore real rather than a double count or a units error.
- T. Rowe Price Associates and Cohen & Steers both report Q2 2026 13F values in THOUSANDS of dollars; T. Rowe's was caught and rescaled (see its method_note). Cohen & Steers, Inc. (CIK 0001284812) was checked for a FIRSTENERGY position in its fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR and holds zero, so the thousands trap did not arise for it here.
- Checked and found to hold zero FirstEnergy shares as of Q2 2026 (no register row carried): Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230), Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848), Capital International Ltd/CA/ (CIK 0001065350), T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612), and Cohen & Steers, Inc. (CIK 0001284812).
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- No sale price or implied enterprise/equity valuation for the FET Equity Interest Sale (Brookfield's incremental 30% tranche, closed 20 May 2026) was found in the Q2 2026 10-Q, the 20 May 2026 8-K, or the 12 Feb 2026 and 9 Dec 2025 8-Ks searched for 'Brookfield'/'billion'/'valuation'/'proceeds'; none of those terms returned a transaction price.
- Grid Growth EHV Holdings, LLC's ownership split (Grid Growth 80%, Transource 20%) is disclosed but not separately sized as its own holding row here; it is two tiers below FirstEnergy (FirstEnergy 50.1% of FET, FET 50% of Grid Growth, Grid Growth 80% of Grid Growth EHV) and Grid Growth's own carrying value is disclosed as zero.
- The FY2025 10-K's combined $38 million 'equity method investments' balance (31 Dec 2025) is not broken out beyond PATH-WV's separately stated $17 million; the remainder (covering Valley Link and any other minor equity-method position) could not be individually sized from the filings searched.
- GIC Private Limited's position is 15+ months stale (Schedule 13G filed 14 Apr 2025); no Form 13F filer was found under GIC's name via EDGAR company search, so no fresher figure exists as of this research (19 Aug 2026).
- Capital Research & Management Co (CIK 0000017283) has no 13F-HR on file for Q2 2026 as of this research; it was not possible to confirm whether it holds FirstEnergy shares.
- No 13F-HR filing after 1 Jul 2026 was found for Cohen & Steers Capital Management Inc (CIK 0000845563), distinct from Cohen & Steers, Inc. (CIK 0001284812), which was checked and holds zero.
- Individual director/NEO FirstEnergy shareholdings (all under 1% of class per the 2026 proxy) were not itemized into separate register rows; only the 15-person aggregate group total is carried.
