Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from Diamondback Energy, Inc.'s own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure the Wikipedia article states for 2025, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,175 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,175 managers reported a position, together holding 185.5m shares, or 65.9% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 281.3m shares outstanding at 1 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- SEPARATELY LISTED SUBSIDIARY: Viper Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: VNOM) is a majority-controlled but separately listed minerals and royalty company with real public minority shareholders (52.7% of the fully diluted total per its own 10-Q). This is treated as a HOLDING, not consolidated-away, following the Moody's/ICRA and Nucor precedent. Diamondback's interest is denominated in Viper Class B Common Stock paired 1:1 with Viper OpCo Units, a different instrument from the listed Class A Common Stock; shares is left null and the actual quantity (142,156,718) and Viper's own fully diluted denominator (362,918,848) are recorded in the holding's method_note and pct_denominator instead of being conflated with Class A share counts. Viper has changed legal form twice: the original Viper Energy Partners LP converted to a corporation (Viper Energy, Inc.) in 2023, and on 19 Aug 2025 that entity (renamed VNOM Sub, Inc.) became a wholly owned subsidiary of a new public parent (also named Viper Energy, Inc., formerly New Cobra Pubco, Inc.) via the Sitio Acquisition; the VNOM ticker continued uninterrupted through this second conversion.
- WORKING, ROYALTY AND MINERAL INTERESTS EXCLUDED: Diamondback and Viper hold extensive working interests, royalty interests and mineral interests in Permian Basin oil and gas properties (both consolidated and, through Viper, non-operated). These are direct interests in physical oil and gas properties, not equity stakes in other companies, and are correctly excluded from holdings entirely; they do not appear anywhere in this file.
- EQUITY METHOD: Diamondback's FY2025 10-K states its 'only significant equity method investment' was its 30% interest in Deep Blue Midland Basin LLC (the Five Point Energy water JV), carried at $229 million in 'Other assets' as of 30 Jun 2026 per the 10-Q's related-party note. No other named, individually-sized equity method or unconsolidated affiliate was found in the 10-Q or 10-K text searched for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated', 'joint venture', 'investments in' and 'noncontrolling interest'; the 10-Q's MD&A separately mentions 'income from equity method investees' (plural) in the aggregate without naming or sizing any investee besides Deep Blue, so no other position could be individually sized here.
- SELF-GATE: 8 register rows, 168,582,218 shares summed, 60.20% of the 280,024,353 shares outstanding denominator (computed with the chart's own arithmetic: no rolls_up_into rows exist in this file, so every row counts at full value). This is above the brief's usual 55% ceiling, driven almost entirely by SGF FANG Holdings, LP's single 84,036,722-share (30.01%) strategic/family stake arising from the Sept 2024 Endeavor Energy Resources merger (paid mostly in FANG stock to founder Autry C. Stephens and family). Excluding SGF, the remaining 7 institutional and insider rows sum to 84,545,496 shares, 30.19% of the company, squarely inside the typical 25-45% band. Treated as a genuine, verified concentration rather than a mixed-instrument or double-counting error: SGF's figure is a filed Schedule 13D/A restated in the 2026 proxy, is independent of the institutional 13F rows, and is not a component of the officers-and-directors group.
- SHARE BASIS: company.shares_outstanding (280,024,353) is taken from FANG's own Q2 2026 10-Q cover page, 'As of July 31, 2026'. No merger affected this basis: the large share-issuing Endeavor merger (Sept 2024) and the smaller Double Eagle acquisition (~6.84 million shares, April 2025) both predate every 13F used in this file (all Q2 2026, period ended 30 Jun 2026), so no stale pre-merger 13F risk applies here.
- VANGUARD CASE: Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) for Q2 2026, confirmed directly. Two of its successor entities were checked directly (13F-HR); the register row sums only those two rather than the full known 8-entity family, so likely understates Vanguard's true position (see unknowns). Wellington Management Co LLP (CIK 0001633863) similarly filed a 13F-NT naming its parent Wellington Management Group LLP (CIK 0000902219) as reporting entity; that parent's own 13F-HR was used directly and is a complete figure, not a partial roll-up.
- PROXY OMISSION: FANG's own 2026 DEF 14A 'Major Stockholder Table' (5%-holder table sourced from Schedule 13D/13G filings) lists only SGF FANG Holdings, LP and BlackRock, Inc., omitting Vanguard, State Street, Wellington and Capital Group even though each holds a multi-percent position per its own Q2 2026 13F. No fresher Vanguard/State Street/Wellington Schedule 13G or 13G/A on FANG was located within the time budget to confirm whether one exists at a level below 5% (plausible, since 13F holdings are split across many advisory sub-entities) or was simply not found.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Full Vanguard family total for Q2 2026: only 2 of the roughly 8 known successor CIKs (Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC, the two largest) were individually re-verified against their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings; the remaining smaller entities (Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, Vanguard Global Advisers LLC, Vanguard Asset Management Ltd, Vanguard Investments Australia Ltd, Vanguard Personalized Indexing Management LLC, Vanguard National Trust Co) were not re-checked this session, so the true family total is understated in the register row.
- Whether a Schedule 13G or 13G/A on FANG has been filed by Vanguard, State Street, Wellington, or Capital Group at a level that would appear in a proxy 5%-holder table was not confirmed; only BlackRock's 13G/A (stale, Nov 2024) and SGF's 13D/A (Mar 2026) were located.
- Rows beyond the top 8 verified holders (e.g. Geode Capital, JPMorgan, Fidelity/FMR, Boston Partners, Invesco, BNY Mellon, and other mid-size institutional holders visible in a project-internal Q1 2026 13F compilation) were not individually re-verified against their own Q2 2026 13F filings within the time budget and are omitted rather than included on a stale or unverified basis.
- The exact composition of the $34 million of additional Deep Blue equity interests issued as non-cash consideration in the Oct 2025 divestiture, and whether it changed Diamondback's ownership percentage from some other prior level to the stated flat 30%, was not separately disclosed and was not investigated beyond the filed 30% figure.
- Viper's own proxy footnote breaking down Diamondback's 142,156,718 Viper Class B shares/OpCo Units into three sub-holders (34,463,550 direct, 8,066,528 via Diamondback E&P, 69,626,640 via Endeavor Energy Resources) sums to only 112,156,718, about 30,000,000 short of the stated 142,156,718 total; this gap was not resolved within the time budget (the fetched excerpt may have been cut off before a fourth line item) and the filed total of 142,156,718, which is corroborated independently by Viper's separate 30 Jun 2026 10-Q ownership table, was used rather than the sum of the visible sub-holder lines.
