Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from Devon Energy Corporation's own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure Wikidata carries for 2013, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,227 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,227 managers reported a position, together holding 542.7m shares, or 87.4% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 621.0m shares outstanding at 31 Mar 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Coterra merger and the share count. On 7 May 2026, Devon completed an all-stock merger of equals with Coterra Energy Inc.: each Coterra common share converted into 0.70 of a Devon common share, with Devon as accounting acquirer. This is why shares outstanding roughly doubled between the Q1 2026 10-Q (about 621 million) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (1.1 billion). This is a share-issuing acquisition, not a stock split.
- company.shares_outstanding (1,100,000,000, as of 22 Jul 2026) is taken verbatim from the 10-Q cover page, which itself states the figure only as a rounded 'On July 22, 2026, 1.1 billion shares of common stock were outstanding,' not to the exact share. No more precise cover-page figure or balance-sheet 'shares outstanding' line was found in the sections searched. Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC's 30 Jun 2026 Schedule 13G/A implies a total share count of roughly 1.153 billion (57,442,708 shares / 4.98%), and stockanalysis.com's 18 Aug 2026 snapshot shows about 1.15 billion, both consistent with '1.1 billion' as a rounding rather than a contradiction.
- Holdings side. Devon's 10-Q Note 13 (Investments) discloses four INDIVIDUALLY named and sized equity-method investments as of 30 Jun 2026: Fervo (12% interest, $359m carrying value), WaterBridge (13%, $243m), Catalyst Midstream Partners (50%, $233m) and Producers Midstream (15%, $94m), totaling $929m, plus an 'Other Various' line of $63m that is NOT attributed to any single investee. Per the combined-balance rule, that $63 million is not assigned to any holding here; it is a combined bucket covering an unspecified number of smaller, unnamed equity-method positions (see unknowns). Cotton Draw Midstream, L.L.C. (CDM), a former joint venture with an affiliate of QL Capital Partners, LP, is EXCLUDED: Devon bought out the remaining noncontrolling interest for $260 million on 1 Aug 2025 and now owns 100% of CDM, so it is a consolidated, wholly owned subsidiary, not a holding. Matterhorn Express Pipeline is also excluded: Devon sold its entire investment in Q2 2025 for $372 million and no longer holds a stake.
- Working interests, royalty interests and mineral interests in Devon's oil and gas properties are NOT equity stakes in other companies and are deliberately excluded from holdings, consistent with the brief. Devon is an exploration and production company whose core balance sheet is dominated by operated and non-operated working interests in wells and acreage; none of that is a 'holding' in the sense this file tracks, and no such interest is listed here.
- Fervo Energy Company IPO'd on NASDAQ (FRVO) in Q2 2026, which is why Devon's own Schedule 13G on Fervo (35,728,296 Class A shares, 12.5%, event date 30 Jun 2026) could be used directly for a share-based holding, unlike WaterBridge, Catalyst and Producers Midstream, which are recorded with only a percentage interest and a carrying value because no comparable share/unit count was disclosed anywhere searched.
- Register self-gate, computed the way the chart computes it (container residual reduced only where a member rolls up into it; everything else, including an aggregate with no members, counted at full value): 13 rows. Sum: 132,611,280 (The Vanguard Group, summed) + 95,378,854 (BlackRock) + 73,179,266 (State Street) + 51,522,376 (Wellington Management Group) + 30,520,177 (Geode Capital Management) + 23,513,769 (Morgan Stanley) + 11,126,837 (Northern Trust) + 8,719,666 (JPMorgan Chase) + 5,284,433 (officers/directors group, no members roll into it) + 3,208,910 (FMR LLC) + 2,139,145 (Muncrief) + 1,702,866 (T. Rowe Price Associates) + 334,213 (Harris) = 439,241,792 shares, or 39.93% of 1,100,000,000 shares outstanding. This lands inside the brief's expected 25-45% band.
- Vanguard case: the parent, The Vanguard Group, Inc. (CIK 0000102909), filed Form 13F-NT for Q2 2026 (a notice carrying no holdings) and its own Schedule 13G/A (Amendment No. 12, filed 26 Mar 2026) explicitly reports an aggregate beneficial ownership of ZERO following a 12 Jan 2026 internal realignment. Per the brief's rule for a parent that reports nothing, the successor entities are summed into ONE 'The Vanguard Group' row rather than listed twice or substituted: Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119, 75,348,040 shares per its own Q2 2026 13F-HR) and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (CIK 0002100121, 57,263,240 shares per its own Q2 2026 13F-HR), summing to 132,611,280 shares. This row is NOT is_aggregate and nothing rolls up into it; it is a family roll-up, not a proxy-style container.
- Capital Group family (Capital World Investors CIK 0001422849, Capital International Investors CIK 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors CIK 0001422848) and Norges Bank (CIK 0001374170) were each explicitly checked against their full Q2 2026 13F-HR information tables (by both 'DEVON ENERGY' and the shorter 'DEVON' fragment): none holds any Devon shares as of 30 Jun 2026. No row for either appears in the register as a result.
- BlackRock and Vanguard Capital Management were originally sourced from Schedule 13G filings that predated the 7 May 2026 Coterra merger and understated both positions (BlackRock 49,513,335 shares as of 31 Dec 2025; Vanguard Capital Management 46,538,838 shares as of 31 Mar 2026). Both were replaced with fresh Q2 2026 (30 Jun 2026) Form 13F-HR figures, which are inherently post-merger since a 13F reports current CUSIP holdings regardless of how they were acquired: BlackRock's substantive Q2 2026 13F-HR is filed by a newer registrant CIK 0002012383 (also named 'BlackRock, Inc.', following a 2024 reorganization that renamed the original CIK 0001364742 to 'BlackRock Finance, Inc.' and left every familiar BlackRock operating entity, including CIK 0001086364, filing Form 13F-NT), reporting 95,378,854 shares.
- Five register rows were added on review, each read from its own Q2 2026 (30 Jun 2026) Form 13F-HR information table with basis filed_13f: FMR LLC (Fidelity, 3,208,910 shares), Geode Capital Management (30,520,177 shares), JPMorgan Chase & Co. (8,719,666 shares, two option/derivative lines on the same CUSIP excluded from the total), Morgan Stanley (23,513,769 shares) and Northern Trust Corporation (11,126,837 shares). A sixth, Wellington Management Group LLP (51,522,376 shares, $2.13bn), was found by checking Coterra Energy's own EDGAR filing history for large pre-merger holders per the coordinator's steer: Wellington filed 8 Schedule 13G amendments on Coterra between 2022 and 2026, its last (event date 29 May 2026) reporting zero Coterra shares as they converted into Devon shares in the merger, and its Q2 2026 Devon 13F-HR shows it is now a top-4 Devon holder purely as a result of the merger. No Wellington Schedule 13G or 13D on Devon itself was found, so this row rests on the 13F alone.
- Capital Group family (Capital World Investors CIK 0001422849, Capital International Investors CIK 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors CIK 0001422848) was explicitly checked against each entity's full Q2 2026 13F-HR information table by both 'DEVON ENERGY' and the shorter 'DEVON' fragment: none of the three holds any Devon shares as of 30 Jun 2026. No Capital Group row appears in the register as a result.
- A 2021 Schedule 13D/A shows EnCap Energy Capital Fund IX, L.P. and affiliated Felix Energy vehicles holding 30,569,828 Devon shares (4.52%) in connection with Devon's 2021 acquisition of WPX Energy / Felix assets. No subsequent amendment has been filed in the five years since. Given PE sponsors typically distribute or sell such stock within a few years and the total silence, this position is treated as stale and likely no longer current; it is excluded from the register rather than reported as a live 4.52% strategic stake.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether Wellington Management Group LLP has crossed a reporting threshold requiring a Schedule 13G or 13D on Devon itself; none was found as of 18 Aug 2026, so its register row rests on the 13F alone rather than a cross-checked ownership certification.
- Morgan Stanley Institutional Investment Advisors LLC (CIK 0002026079), a separate registrant from the parent Morgan Stanley 13F-HR filer used here (CIK 0000895421), was not individually checked and may add to the Morgan Stanley family total if it holds Devon shares.
- Whether any Vanguard-affiliated 13F filer beyond Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example a Vanguard Advisers or Vanguard Institutional entity) also holds Devon shares; not individually checked, so the true Vanguard family total may be somewhat higher than 132,611,280 shares.
- Whether any Vanguard-affiliated entity beyond Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example a Vanguard Advisers or Vanguard Institutional entity) also holds Devon shares; not individually checked.
- The identities and sizes of the individual investees inside Devon's combined $63 million 'Other Various' equity-method balance at 30 Jun 2026 ($50 million at 31 Dec 2025). The 10-Q's Note 13 table does not name any investee within that combined figure.
- WaterBridge Infrastructure LLC's, Catalyst Midstream Partners LLC's, and Producers Midstream's total unit/share denominators, and therefore Devon's holding in share/unit terms rather than only a percentage interest and a carrying value. No filing searched (10-Q or Devon's own EDGAR 13D/G history) disclosed a unit count for any of the three.
- Fervo Energy's total share count across any class other than Class A, needed to compute Devon's percentage of Fervo's FULLY diluted/total equity rather than only of Class A Common Stock.
- An exact (non-rounded) figure for company.shares_outstanding; the 10-Q cover page itself states the number only as a rounded '1.1 billion'.
