Tata Play is an Indian pay television and content distribution company. It runs a direct to home satellite service carrying more than 690 channels, including high definition and 4K feeds, and sells set top boxes, a Binge streaming aggregator that bundles Indian and international video on demand services onto one subscription and bill, and a Tata Play Fiber home broadband service. The business launched in 2006 as Tata Sky, a joint venture between the Tata group and the News Corporation satellite platform business that later passed to Twenty First Century Fox and then to The Walt Disney Company, and it was renamed Tata Play in January 2022 to reflect the shift from a satellite broadcaster to a mixed broadcast and streaming distributor. It is the largest DTH operator in India, with about 21.3 million subscribers as of March 2023.
Source
Tata Play Limited files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Tata Play (Wikipedia), Enter Binge Mode (Tata group newsroom) and Tata Play turns 20 (Indian Television). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- The Walt Disney Company. Disney's FY2025 10-K describes a 30 percent effective interest in Tata Play Limited, which operates a direct-to-home satellite distribution platform in India. Disney recorded impairment charges against this investment (part of a combined $635 million equity-investment impairment line in fiscal 2025, primarily A+E and Tata Play together, not separately split). No standalone carrying value is disclosed; it sits inside the same combined equity-method investments balance as A+E and the India joint venture, so value_usd is left null. source
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Tata Play Limited where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
