Southwest Gulf Railroad Company is a common carrier short line railroad in Medina County, Texas, about 30 miles west of San Antonio. It built and operates a roughly nine mile line, known as the Medina Line, that runs from a limestone quarry near Quihi south to a connection with the Union Pacific main line at Dunlay beside U.S. Highway 90, giving the quarry rail access to markets in Houston and east Texas instead of relying on trucks. The Surface Transportation Board authorised construction and operation in 2008 after a long environmental review, and because the line is licensed as a common carrier it is open to other shippers along its route, with the railroad also offering railcar switching and transloading. Construction began in 2017 and the line entered service at the end of the decade, moving unit trains of crushed limestone.
Source
Southwest Gulf Railroad Company files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from STB authorizes Southwest Gulf RR to construct 7-mile rail line in Medina County, Texas (Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen), Final Phases of Southwest Gulf Railroad Medina Line Begin (Construction Equipment Guide) and Southwest Gulf Railroad Company Construction and Operation Exemption in Medina County, TX (Federal Register notice). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- Vulcan Materials Company. Written here as 95, not 0.95. Exhibit 21 lists Southwest Gulf Railroad Company (Texas) at 95%. Organized as a 'Company' rather than a single-asset landholding LLC, consistent with an operating short-line railroad (plausibly serving Vulcan's Texas aggregates logistics) rather than a quarry or plant interest; not described anywhere in the 10-K or 10-Q body text searched, so the identity of the remaining 5% co-owner was not independently confirmed. No individual carrying value is disclosed; covered only by the combined $23.8-23.9 million consolidated noncontrolling-interest balance shared across all of Vulcan's less-than-wholly-owned subsidiaries. source
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Southwest Gulf Railroad Company where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
