SSTPC runs an integrated petrochemical complex in the Binhai district of Tianjin, China, established in 2009 as a 50/50 joint venture between China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), which supplies the feedstock, site and Chinese market access, and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), which brings the product technology and export marketing. The complex is built around a steam cracker that started up in 2010 with 1 million tonnes a year of ethylene capacity and was debottlenecked to 1.3 million tonnes with a new cracking furnace commissioned in 2021. Around it sit nine world scale downstream plants making polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene glycol, butadiene, butene-1 and phenol, joined in September 2023 by a 260,000 tonne a year polycarbonate plant selling under SABIC's LEXAN brand.
