Norte Abierto is an undeveloped open pit gold and copper project in the Atacama Region of northern Chile, roughly 112 kilometres southeast of Copiapo, covering about 132,245 hectares held through 504 exploitation licences, 174 exploration licences and 26 water rights. The orebody is a porphyry copper gold system with minor epithermal gold mineralisation, and it is counted among the largest undeveloped gold and copper deposits anywhere. The venture was formed in 2017 when Barrick contributed its Cerro Casale property and Goldcorp, later absorbed by Newmont, contributed the neighbouring Caspiche deposit, allowing the two adjacent deposits to be studied as a single complex. It is held through the Chilean company Norte Abierto SpA, is jointly operated by the two partners, and remains at the development and evaluation stage while they work out an economically viable way to build it.
Source
Norte Abierto Project (joint venture) files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Newmont Corporation Form 10-K for 2025 (SEC), Norte Abierto (Cerro Casale) Project (Mining Data Online) and Newmont Corporation Exhibit 21, subsidiaries of the registrant, 2025 Form 10-K (SEC). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- Newmont Corporation, as of 30 Jun 2026. Carrying value of Newmont's 50% equity-method investment in the Norte Abierto gold-copper project (Chile) per Note 12 to the Q2 2026 10-Q: $583 million at 30 June 2026 (was $553 million at 31 Dec 2025, up in part on the JV's proportionate share of a gain from selling one of its properties to a third party in Q2 2026). Unincorporated joint venture, not share-denominated, so shares is null and target_is_private is true. source
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Norte Abierto Project (joint venture) where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
