Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co., Ltd. (MUMSS) is a Tokyo based securities firm created in May 2010 when Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Morgan Stanley combined their Japanese securities businesses under the Global Strategic Alliance the two firms began in 2008. The joint venture operates as two companies: MUMSS and Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities (MSMS). MUMSS houses the integrated investment banking operation, advising Japanese corporate clients on mergers and acquisitions and underwriting equity and debt, and runs a large domestic retail brokerage and wealth management business distributing Japanese and international products through a nationwide branch network. Under the Alliance 2.0 arrangement announced in July 2023, the Japanese research and institutional equity businesses were consolidated into MSMS.

Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co., Ltd. files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Morgan Stanley Japan: Japan Joint Venture, Morgan Stanley press release: MUFG and Morgan Stanley Conclude Definitive Agreements for Securities Joint Venture in Japan and Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities corporate site. The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- Morgan Stanley, as of 31 Dec 2025. The 40% economic and voting interest is filed and stated directly: the FY2025 10-K says the Firm and MUFG formed a Japan joint venture comprising two companies, MUMSS and Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities Co., Ltd. (MSMS): the Firm owns a 40% economic interest in the Joint Venture and MUFG owns the other 60%, and the Firm's 40% voting interest in MUMSS is accounted for under the equity method within Institutional Securities. MSMS is separately consolidated by the Firm based on its 51% voting interest and so is not treated as part of this position (majority-owned and consolidated, not a minority stake). The $1,290 million value_usd is NOT filed; it is inferred. The same FY2025 10-K's market-risk sensitivity table 'Investments Sensitivity, Including Related Carried Interest, Loss from 10% Decline' shows 'Other investments: MUMSS' at $129 million at 31 December 2025 (versus $122 million at 31 December 2024), separately broken out from an unnamed 'Other Firm investments' bucket ($493 million) that is not attributed to this or any other single investee. Assumed input: the sensitivity is described as the loss from a 10% decline in investment value, so treating it as linear implies a carrying value of $129m / 0.10 = approximately $1,290 million (roughly $1.16bn to $1.42bn if the true relationship is only approximately linear, i.e. plus or minus 10%). This is an inference from a sensitivity disclosure, not a carrying value the filing states directly, so basis is modelled and confidence is estimated even though the 40% interest itself is filed fact. source
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co., Ltd. where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
