Helios is an Algerian industrial gases company based at Arzew, on the coast west of Oran, formed by Sonatrach and Air Products. It takes crude helium recovered from the natural gas that feeds the Arzew liquefied natural gas complex, purifies it and liquefies it, and ships liquid helium to customers in Europe and Africa: the plant has supplied the European market since the early 1990s and is one of the few helium sources outside the United States, Qatar and Russia. Sonatrach supplies the feed gas and the site while Air Products contributes the cryogenic technology and the international helium distribution network. Under agreements signed in November 2018, worth about 100 million dollars in total, Sonatrach began extracting helium from the GL1Z and GL3Z LNG trains for the Helios plant, and Helios took ownership of two new air separation plants built by Air Products at Hassi Messaoud and Arzew that make nitrogen, oxygen and argon for the Algerian and wider Maghreb market through Sonatrach's subsidiary COGIZ.
Source
Helios S.p.A. files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Air Products and Sonatrach Announce Industrial Gases Agreements in Algeria (PR Newswire, November 2018), Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. Form 10-K Exhibit 21.1, subsidiaries list, FY2025 (SEC) and Air Products, Sonatrach to recover helium from LNG plants (Offshore Energy). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.. Foreign industrial gas producer in Italy, accounted for under the equity method. Part of the combined equity affiliates balance; no individually disclosed value. source
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Helios S.p.A. where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
