Conrail - Profile

Type
joint venture
Based in
United States
Founded
1999

Conrail today is the switching and terminal railroad that survived the 1999 division of the old Consolidated Rail Corporation between CSX and Norfolk Southern, and it runs the three areas the two buyers agreed to keep neutral rather than hand to either side: northern New Jersey from North Bergen down to Trenton, the southern New Jersey and Philadelphia district worked out of Pavonia Yard in Camden, and the Detroit area. Across roughly 1,200 miles of track it moves customers' freight between their sidings and the long distance trains of the two owners, so shippers on its lines can reach the national network through either railroad, while CSX and Norfolk Southern handle all commercial and pricing matters and supply the locomotives. The company keeps its own employees and infrastructure and is based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

Source

Conrail files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Conrail company website and Conrail Shared Assets Operations (Wikipedia). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.

Where each figure comes from

A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.

What this page is not

It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Conrail where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
