Chongqing Cummins Engine Company builds large displacement diesel and gas engines in the Liangjiang New District of Chongqing, China, covering roughly 14 to 60 litres of displacement and going into generator sets, mining machinery and marine propulsion rather than on highway trucks. Established on 15 June 1995, it has produced more than 330,000 engines, employs around 1,400 people, invested 1.5 billion yuan in 2022 in a new research and manufacturing site built to international emissions standards, and launched a 19 litre methanol engine platform in 2024. It is a 50/50 venture in which Cummins contributes the heavy duty and high horsepower engine designs and technology licences while Chongqing Machinery and Electric Co., Ltd., a Chongqing state linked engineering group, contributes the plant and the local manufacturing base.
