Aluminum Dynamics operates a greenfield recycled aluminum flat rolled products mill at Columbus, Mississippi, designed for 650,000 metric tonnes a year and built at a cost of roughly $2.5 billion including its supporting slab centres. The mill melts pre and post consumer aluminium scrap rather than primary metal and rolls coil for the beverage can, automotive and common alloy industrial markets, with value added finishing that includes two continuous annealing solution heat treating lines, a can end and tab coating line and slitting and packaging operations. It is fed by two 150,000 tonne satellite recycled slab centres, one at San Luis Potosí in central Mexico and a second under construction in the south western United States. Construction began after the site was chosen in 2022 and the mill rolled its first hot coil in June 2025.
Source
Aluminum Dynamics, LLC files nothing with the SEC, so none of this comes from a filer record. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Steel Dynamics Form 10-K for 2025, Aluminum Operations Segment, Steel Dynamics Announces Planned State-of-the-Art Aluminum Flat Rolled Mill Site Selection and Steel Dynamics Rolls its First Aluminum Coils (Association for Iron & Steel Technology). The ownership figures below come from the holders' filings instead, and are sourced row by row.
The disclosed stakes
One row per position. Where a holder reports the same company in two share classes, both rows are shown rather than summed, because the class is part of a position's identity.
Where each figure comes from
A private stake has no ownership form behind it, so the source is always the holder's own filing or disclosure. Anything modelled says so, with the arithmetic.
- Steel Dynamics, Inc.. FY2025 10-K, Item 1 Business, Aluminum Operations Segment: 'The flat rolled products mill is a joint venture, of which SDI has a 94.4% controlling equity interest, with Unity Aluminum, Inc.' This is the 650,000-metric-ton recycled aluminum flat rolled products mill in Columbus, Mississippi, which began operations in the second half of 2025. Exhibit 21 (list of subsidiaries) confirms Aluminum Dynamics, LLC, organized in Indiana, at 94.4% owned. The Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 28 Jul 2026, period ended 30 Jun 2026) restates the identical '94.4% equity interest, with Unity Aluminum, Inc.' language, so the stake is unchanged as of the latest filing. It is fully consolidated (SDI holds a controlling interest), so no separate fair value or carrying value for SDI's 94.4% interest alone is disclosed in either filing; Unity Aluminum's minority interest is not named among the entities carrying a disclosed redeemable-noncontrolling-interest balance (only USS and Mesabi Nugget are), so no dollar figure for either side of this JV was found. sourcesource 2source 3
What this page is not
It is not a complete register. It lists the holders who happen to be inside the researched set and disclosed the stake themselves. A private company can have many other shareholders, and nothing here rules them out: venture investors, founders and employees usually appear in no public filing at all. Percentages are of Aluminum Dynamics, LLC where a holder stated one, and are missing where no holder did.
