Al-Jubail Petrochemical Company, known as Kemya, operates a petrochemical complex in Jubail Industrial City on the Saudi Arabian Gulf coast. It was established in 1980 by SABIC and Exxon Chemical Arabia, an ExxonMobil affiliate, on equal terms, and started production in 1984 as one of the first polyethylene producers in the kingdom. The site cracks ethane and cracker liquids to make ethylene and propylene and converts them into low density and linear low density polyethylene for domestic, regional and export markets. A $3.4 billion specialty elastomers plant was added alongside the olefins and polyethylene units and started up in 2016, producing halobutyl rubber, styrene butadiene and polybutadiene rubber, EPDM, thermoplastic specialty polymers and carbon black.
