The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 898 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
898 managers reported a position, together holding 192.3m shares, or 99.4% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 193.5m shares outstanding at 23 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- ZimVie stake (the holdings-side question this file was assigned): Zimmer Biomet spun off ZimVie Inc. (NASDAQ: ZIMV) in 2022 and retained a minority stake afterward. The FY2025 10-K (filed 20 Feb 2026) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 5 Aug 2026) both state, in risk-factor language, 'the subsequent liquidation of our retained interest in ZimVie Inc.' and, in the 10-K, that 'we subsequently obtained supplemental IRS rulings as to the tax-free nature of our divestiture of retained shares of ZimVie common stock following the spinoff, which divestiture completed in February 2023.' Zimmer Biomet has held ZERO ZimVie shares since February 2023, well before any period covered by these filings. Per the database rule that null means 'not sized' rather than 'exited,' this is recorded as a note with NO row in holdings, not a null row.
- No other equity-method or strategic investments were found. Searched the FY2025 10-K (https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1136869/000119312526059853/zbh-20251231.htm) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1136869/000119312526335044/zbh-20260630.htm) for: 'equity method', 'equity investment(s)', 'non-marketable', 'unrealized gain', 'joint venture', 'unconsolidated', 'strategic investment', 'investee', 'other assets', 'carrying value', 'book value method', 'observable price', 'privately held'. The only hits are risk-factor boilerplate (ZimVie) and a single aggregated line in MD&A: 'we recognized gains of $14.7 million, losses of $42.1 million and losses of $18.5 million' in 2025, 2024 and 2023 respectively 'on our investments in other debt and equity securities.' No investee is named anywhere in either filing, so this combined bucket sizes NO individual holding; it is recorded here, not as a row (combined-balance trap).
- Also checked Exhibit 21 (subsidiaries list) to the FY2025 10-K (https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1136869/000119312526059853/zbh-ex21.htm): it is a plain list of wholly owned subsidiary names with no ownership-percentage column and no joint ventures, ruling out an Exhibit-21 route to sizing any minority stake.
- Zimmer Biomet made two wholly owned acquisitions during the period covered by these filings: Paragon 28, Inc. (completed 21 Apr 2025) and Monogram Technologies Inc. (completed 7 Oct 2025), both acquisitions of ALL outstanding shares. These are not holdings (100% acquisitions, now consolidated subsidiaries), and are excluded from the holdings array per the brief.
- Register self-gate, computed from this final file exactly as the chart computes it (no row has rolls_up_into, so every row counts at full value): 11 rows, 99,344,145 shares summed, 190,737,689 shares outstanding (as of 30 Jul 2026, per the Q2 2026 10-Q cover page), 52.08% of the company. This is above the 'roughly 25-45%' typical band but inside the 15-55% bound the brief allows. It is cross-checked, not a double-count: the DEF 14A's own (stale) Schedule 13G table already shows the top five alone (Vanguard 12.3%, Dodge & Cox 11.4%, BlackRock 8.0%, T. Rowe Price Associates 7.6%, Harris Associates 6.3%) summing to 45.6%, and this register's fresh Q2 2026 13F figures for those same five holders are all within a few percent of the proxy's stale figures (see each row's method_note). Adding State Street, Geode, American Century, Franklin Resources, the Capital Group family and the insider group pushes the total past 50%, which is consistent with Zimmer Biomet being a widely held, no-founder, single-class company with several large active managers (Dodge & Cox, Harris Associates) holding unusually large stakes alongside the index managers.
- Every Q2 2026 13F-derived row above was cross-checked for implied price per share (value_usd / shares): all cluster at $86.09 to $86.34 per share, consistent with each other and with ZBH's actual price around 30 Jun 2026, which is the internal check used to catch the T. Rowe Price Associates values-in-thousands defect on this row (raw value implied $0.086/share before correction).
- The project's own ZBH.json register snapshot (data/registers/ZBH.json, period 31-MAR-2026) was used ONLY to enumerate which entity names to look up (the Vanguard and Capital Group family members), never for any share or value figure, per the brief. Its own grouped Q1 2026 figures (e.g. 'Vanguard' 23,479,202 sh, 'Capital Group' 9,362,876 sh) are noticeably different from what this file found from fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR filings for the individual Capital Group registrants (269,763 sh); the snapshot's 'Capital Group' figure could not be reconciled to any combination of registrants checked here and was NOT used.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The combined 'investments in other debt and equity securities' gain/loss bucket in the FY2025 10-K ($14.7m gain 2025, $42.1m loss 2024, $18.5m loss 2023) names no investee and could not be split or sized to any single holding.
- Whether any further Capital Group jurisdiction-specific affiliate beyond the 7 registrants checked (Capital World Investors, Capital Research Global Investors, Capital International Sarl, Capital International Ltd /CA/, Capital International Inc/CA/, Capital Group Investment Management Pte Ltd, Capital Group Private Client Services Inc) holds ZBH; the family's total position here is small (0.14% of the company) so the risk of a materially missed holder is low.
- Did not check whether State Street, Geode, American Century, Franklin Resources or Harris Associates file 13F holdings through additional disaggregated sub-entities the way Vanguard, Capital Group and BlackRock now do; each was checked only under the single CIK found via EDGAR company search that filed a Q2 2026 13F-HR under that firm's own name.
- market_cap_usd and market_cap_as_of are sourced to stockanalysis.com (an aggregator), not a filing; shares_outstanding used for the market cap check is filed (190,737,689, 10-Q cover page, as of 30 Jul 2026) and matches stockanalysis.com's figure.
