The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 940 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
940 managers reported a position, together holding 128.4m shares, or 98.6% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of a share count taken later than this quarter, because the count in force at the snapshot is not published as a structured fact for this company. Where the count has moved since, the figures are off by that much.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Holdings side is genuinely empty of any nameable position. Searched the FY2025 10-K (filed 2026-02-18, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1442145/000143774926004452/vrsk20251231_10k.htm) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 2026-07-29, the most recent Verisk filing of any type as of this research, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1442145/000143774926024749/vrsk20260630_10q.htm) for: equity method, equity investment, non-marketable, unrealized gain, joint venture, unconsolidated, minority interest, strategic investment, significant influence, readily determinable, cost method.
- Combined-balance trap, no row possible: as of 2026-06-30 Verisk carries $24.3m of 'investments in private companies' accounted for under ASC 323-10-25 as equity method investments (was $29.8m at 2025-12-31, $27.0m at 2024-12-31), included in 'Other noncurrent assets'. No investee is named anywhere in the 10-K or 10-Q text searched. This combined figure is recorded here, not against any row.
- Second combined balance, no row possible: as of 2026-06-30 Verisk also carries $198.8m of 'securities without readily determinable market values' accounted for at cost (was $198.9m at 2025-12-31), where Verisk states it does not have the ability to exercise significant influence over the investees. Again no investee is named.
- Exhibit 21.1 ('Subsidiaries of the Registrant') is listed in the FY2025 10-K's own exhibit index (Item 15) with an asterisk marking it as filed herewith, but the actual EX-21.1 document is absent from the accession's filed document list (checked via the accession's index-headers.html document TYPE/SEQUENCE/FILENAME triples: only EX-19.1, EX-23.1, EX-31.1, EX-31.2, EX-32.1, EX-97.1 and the XBRL exhibits are actually present). The same is true of the FY2024 10-K's accession. This looks like a genuine EDGAR filing anomaly rather than a search miss; it means Exhibit 21 could not be checked for an ownership-percentage column on any equity-method investee.
- Two prior divestitures carried retained interests that have since been settled/monetized and are not current holdings: the 2016 sale of the healthcare data analytics business and the January 2022 sale of the 'specialized markets' business (3E Company Environmental, Ecological and Engineering, sold to Tamarack Buyer, L.L.C.) both left Verisk with retained interests; the FY2025 10-K states these were settled for $113.3m of cash proceeds received in 2024, and the FY2025 MD&A attributes 2024's higher 'Other income and others, net' partly to gains on that settlement. No current stake remains from either sale.
- The February 2023 sale of Verisk's Energy business to Planet Jersey Buyer Ltd (an entity controlled by The Veritas Capital Fund VIII, L.P.) for $3,066.4m net cash included up to $200.0m of additional CONTINGENT CASH consideration tied to Veritas Capital's own future return on its investment, which Veritas funded through a Class C Partnership interest in the buyer entity. This is the buyer's financing structure and a contractual right to future cash for Verisk, not an equity interest Verisk holds in the divested business, so it is not sized as a holding.
- Rocket Enterprise Solutions GmbH: Verisk made a strategic (minority) investment in Rocket in 2022, then acquired 100% of it on 2024-01-08 for a net cash purchase price of $10.1m. It is now a wholly owned subsidiary within the Insurance segment's claims category, not a holding.
- Other recent acquisitions that are wholly owned and therefore not holdings: Simplitium and SuranceBay (underwriting), Morning Data, Mavera and Krug (claims), all folded into the Insurance segment.
- Other recent dispositions with no retained interest disclosed: sale of Atmospheric and Environmental Research ('AER') for $7.1m in December 2024 (loss of $12.1m), and Verisk Marketing Solutions.
- Register self-gate, computed from this final file exactly as the chart computes it: no row carries rolls_up_into and no row is_aggregate has members rolled into it (the single is_aggregate row, the officers-and-directors group, has no member rows to reduce), so the total is the plain sum of all 12 register rows' shares: 16,251,028 + 10,319,602 + 6,008,136 + 5,765,954 + 5,382,046 + 4,600,861 + 3,998,992 + 2,214,155 + 1,691,820 + 816,889 + 719,639 + 681,324 = 58,450,446 shares, which is 44.91% of shares_outstanding (130,156,012). This sits at the upper edge of the 25-45% expected band but within the 15-55% tolerance; Verisk's float is unusually concentrated because the company has repurchased a large fraction of its own shares (issued 544,003,038 vs. only 130,136,216 outstanding at 2026-06-30 per the 10-Q balance sheet, i.e. roughly 76% of issued shares sit in treasury), so the remaining public float is disproportionately institutional.
- shares_outstanding = 130,156,012 is taken from the Q2 2026 10-Q cover page ('As of July 24, 2026, there were 130,156,012 shares outstanding of the registrant's Common Stock'), filed 2026-07-29, the most recent Verisk filing of any type found. This is materially lower than the 138,397,709 shares outstanding shown on the FY2025 10-K balance sheet (2025-12-31) and even lower than the 130,136,216 on the Q2 2026 10-Q's own balance sheet as of 2026-06-30, because Verisk has been actively repurchasing stock (six months 2026 repurchases of $1,571.9m plus $255.1m not yet settled, per the Q2 2026 10-Q cash flow statement). All register percentages use the 2026-07-24 figure.
- market_cap_usd is derived: 130,156,012 shares (as of 2026-07-24) x $178.86/share (Yahoo Finance close, 2026-08-18) = $23,279,704,306. This mixes a share count from one date with a price from a later date (about 3.5 weeks apart); Yahoo's own displayed market cap for the same quote was $23.435bn, presumably using a slightly different shares-outstanding figure. Treat market_cap_usd as approximate.
- Verisk has a single class of common stock (no dual-class/founder structure) and is not sovereign- or strategically-held at any material size found in this research; all 12 register rows are conventional institutional asset managers plus the aggregate insider group.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Could not identify the specific private companies behind the $24.3m (2026-06-30) / $29.8m (2025-12-31) equity-method 'investments in private companies' balance, or the $198.8m (2026-06-30) / $198.9m (2025-12-31) cost-basis 'securities without readily determinable market values' balance. Both are combined totals with no investee named in the FY2025 10-K or Q2 2026 10-Q text (searched: equity method, equity investment, non-marketable, unrealized gain, joint venture, unconsolidated, minority interest, strategic investment, significant influence, readily determinable, cost). Exhibit 21.1, which sometimes carries an ownership-percentage column for exactly this kind of investee, is referenced in the FY2025 10-K's exhibit index but the actual document is not present in either the FY2025 or FY2024 10-K accession on EDGAR (checked via index-headers.html document lists), so it could not be used to size or name any of these investments.
- Did not locate any XBRL dei:EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding tag directly; used the plain-text cover-page disclosure in the Q2 2026 10-Q instead ('As of July 24, 2026, there were 130,156,012 shares outstanding'), which should be equivalent.
- Did not exhaustively check every possible additional Vanguard, Capital Group, or other multi-entity family beyond the entities named in this project's data/registers/VRSK.json snapshot plus the T. Rowe Price second registrant and the Capital Research & Management Co / Capital World Investors / Capital Research Global Investors entities called out in the research instructions; it is possible a further minor filing entity in one of these families holds a small additional VRSK position not captured here.
