Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from VeriSign, Inc.'s own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure Wikidata carries for 2015, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Description
Verisign, Inc. is an American company based in Reston, Virginia, that operates a diverse array of network infrastructure, including two of the Internet's thirteen root nameservers, the authoritative registry for the.com,.net,.web and.name generic top-level domains and the.cc country-code top-level domains, and the back-end systems for the.jobs and.edu sponsored top-level domains.

modelled, reported or pending
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 838 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
838 managers reported a position, together holding 85.8m shares, or 94.2% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 91.0m shares outstanding at 17 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Berkshire Hathaway verified independently: python3 scripts/filing.py 13f on https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1067983/000119312526352200/56757.xml VERISIGN returns 8,989,880 shares, $2,261,494,212 across 2 information-table lines, exactly matching the figure already recorded in data/research/berkshire.json. No disagreement to record; this is an AGREE case.
- Holdings side is genuinely empty. Searched the FY2025 10-K (filed 2026-02-05, accession 0001014473-26-000006) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 2026-07-23, accession 0001014473-26-000028) for the terms 'equity method', 'unconsolidated', 'non-marketable'/'nonmarketable', 'minority interest', 'equity securities', 'strategic investment', 'joint venture', 'investments in' and 'affiliate'. The only hits were: the 'Equity Securities' item heading (Item 5, which covers VeriSign's own share repurchases, not an investment) and 'investments in' referring to VeriSign's own money market funds and debt securities (Treasury/marketable-debt holdings, explicitly excluded by the brief). Also checked Exhibit 21.01 (incorporated by reference from the FY2024 10-K, filed 2025-02-13): a bare 13-entity subsidiary name list with a jurisdiction column and no ownership-percentage column, and every entity is a wholly-owned VeriSign subsidiary (e.g. VeriSign Naming and Directory Services LLC, VeriSign India Private Limited), not a joint venture or minority stake. VeriSign's registry agreements with ICANN and its .com/.net contracts are commercial arrangements, not equity stakes, per the brief.
- Capital Group checked and found to hold nothing: all three registrants (Capital World Investors CIK 0001422849, Capital International Investors CIK 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors CIK 0001422848) were read from their own Q2 2026 13F-HR information tables; none contains a VeriSign row. Recorded here as a note, not a null row, per the project's rule that a checked-and-zero holder is a note.
- Self-gate (computed on this final file, using the chart's exact arithmetic): 13 register rows, raw share sum 49,531,506; after reducing the 'All current directors and Executive Officers as a group' row by Bidzos's 389,602 shares (the only named member rolled into it), the charted total is 49,141,904 shares against shares_outstanding 90,300,000, i.e. 54.42%. This sits at the high end of, but inside, the 15-55% expected band. It is explained by VeriSign's heavily reduced float (share count fell from 96.1 million in Oct 2024 to 90.3 million in Jul 2026 on buybacks) stacked with a ~10% strategic holder (Berkshire) on top of concentrated institutional ownership (Vanguard family 12.50%, BlackRock 9.32%, AQR 5.48%).
- shares_outstanding 90,300,000 is dei:EntityCommonStockSharesOutstanding from the cover page of the Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 2026-07-23), 'as of July 17, 2026'. This matches stockanalysis.com's 90.30 million figure checked on 2026-08-19.
- market_cap_usd is sourced to stockanalysis.com (aggregator), not a filing; flagged as such because the field itself is not covered by the filed/estimated confidence enum used on register and holdings rows.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- No equity-method, joint-venture, non-marketable, or strategic-investment holding was found anywhere in VeriSign's FY2025 10-K, Q2 2026 10-Q, or Exhibit 21 subsidiary list; see notes for the exact search terms and filings checked. Holdings is an empty array by design, not a gap.
- Could not source a precise, filed market cap figure as of a specific SEC filing date; market_cap_usd/market_cap_as_of come from stockanalysis.com rather than a filing.
