Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from STERIS plc's own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure the Wikipedia article states for 2024, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Description
Steris plc is an American-Irish-based medical equipment company specializing in sterilization and surgical products for the US healthcare system. Steris is operationally headquartered in Mentor, Ohio, and has been legally registered in Dublin, Ireland, for tax purposes since 2018. Previously the company was registered in the United Kingdom from 2014 to 2018.
Equity stakes STERIS plc holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 2 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 827 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
827 managers reported a position, together holding 93.7m shares, or 96.0% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 97.6m shares outstanding at 27 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Filing regime: STERIS plc is an Irish plc (redomiciled from the UK in 2019; CIK 0001757898 was newly assigned at that time, which is why it looks recent for a company with older operating history). Despite being an Irish plc, STERIS files as a US domestic filer, not a foreign private issuer: it files Form 10-K (not 20-F), Form 10-Q (not 6-K furnishings), and Form DEF 14A (not a foreign equivalent). Confirmed directly from https://data.sec.gov/submissions/CIK0001757898.json, whose filing-history counts show 8 Form 10-K, 22 Form 10-Q and 8 Form DEF 14A entries and zero Form 20-F or Form 6-K entries. Every figure in this file is sourced from these domestic-regime filings.
- STERIS's fiscal year ends 31 March. As of 19 Aug 2026, the newest substantive filing by date is the Q1 FY2027 Form 10-Q (period 30 Jun 2026, filed 7 Aug 2026), which postdates the FY2026 Form 10-K (period 31 Mar 2026, filed 29 May 2026). The 10-Q cover page was used for shares_outstanding; the 10-K was used for the holdings-side investment disclosures (Note on 'Fiscal 2026 Investments' and Exhibit 21.1), since the 10-Q does not restate that detail and only characterises the Company's equity-method investments in aggregate as immaterial.
- shares_outstanding (97,500,110) is taken from the Q1 FY2027 Form 10-Q cover page: 'The number of ordinary shares outstanding as of August 4, 2026: 97,500,110'. This is a single issued-and-outstanding figure; STERIS's balance sheet states 'Ordinary shares, with $0.001 par value; 500.0 shares authorized; 97.5 and 97.8 ordinary shares issued and outstanding, respectively' with no separate treasury-shares line, and a search of the 10-Q for 'treasury shares' and 'issued shares' (as distinct from 'issued and outstanding') returned zero hits. STERIS appears to cancel repurchased ordinary shares rather than hold them in treasury (the cash-flow statement shows 'Repurchases of ordinary shares' as a financing outflow with no corresponding treasury-stock balance-sheet account), so there is no issued-vs-issued-less-treasury distinction to make here: 97,500,110 is both the issued count and the outstanding count used throughout this file (pct_denominator on every row).
- Dental segment disposal: on 11 Apr 2024 STERIS announced the sale of substantially all net assets of its Dental segment for total cash consideration of $787.5 million (plus up to $12.5 million of contingent consideration that was not achieved and was never recorded), closing 31 May 2024 (fiscal 2025). Searched the FY2026 10-K for 'Dental', 'retained' and 'preferred' in this context: the transaction is described only as an all-cash equity sale, with no language indicating STERIS retained any equity, preferred stock, or rollover interest in the divested Dental business. Treated as a note only, with no holdings row, per the research brief.
- STERIS-AUSTAR Pharmaceutical Systems Hong Kong Limited, a separate China/Hong Kong joint venture (51% STERIS Mauritius Limited / 49% Austar Equipment Limited, per the same 2021 8-K exhibit that sourced the STERIS-SHINVA percentages), no longer appears in STERIS's FY2026 Exhibit 21.1 and is not mentioned anywhere in the FY2026 10-K (searched 'Austar', 'STERIS-AUSTAR': zero hits). Per web-sourced news coverage, Austar Lifesciences' subsidiary Austar Equipment bought out STERIS Mauritius's 51% stake in this JV for $1.5 million, giving Austar full ownership. This is recorded here as a note (an exited holding) rather than a holdings row, consistent with the project rule that a checked, fully-exited stake gets no row.
- Combined-balance trap: STERIS's Exhibit 21.1 (List of Subsidiaries) to the FY2026 10-K marks seven entities with an asterisk meaning 'not a direct or indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of STERIS plc' (i.e., consolidated but partly owned, all still meeting the >=50% ownership threshold Exhibit 21.1 itself states as its inclusion criterion): STERIS-SHINVA Healthcare Systems Co., Ltd. (sized at 51%, see holdings), STERIS TOMOE (Thailand) Ltd., STERIS Tomoe Singapore Pte. Ltd., Massaro Limited Partnership (Victory Road), Sterile Supplies Limited, STERIS Bethpage Processing, LLC, and Bioster-Mottahedoon Egypt SAE. The consolidated balance sheet reports only one combined 'Noncontrolling interests' figure ($13.6 million at 31 Mar 2026, $12.4 million at 31 Mar 2025) covering all of these together, with no per-entity breakdown anywhere in the 10-K or 10-Q. Only STERIS-SHINVA's ownership percentage could be sourced (from a 2021 8-K exhibit); the other six are genuinely unsized (see unknowns) and are not given holdings rows.
- Register self-gate, computed from this final file exactly as the chart computes it (no row here sets rolls_up_into or is_aggregate with members, so every row counts at full value): 13 register rows, total shares 12,426,216 + 8,820,889 + 5,072,818 + 3,950,067 + 3,801,077 + 3,502,897 + 2,677,710 + 2,615,842 + 2,280,698 + 2,200,220 + 1,952,990 + 1,894,646 + 294,736 = 51,490,806 shares; 51,490,806 / 97,500,110 = 52.81% of shares outstanding. This is inside the acceptable 15-55% band but near its upper edge, which is expected: this project's own STE 13F snapshot (data/registers/STE.json, period 31-Mar-2026) lists 827 separate 13F filers reporting a STERIS position, and aggregator sources (fintel.io, tradingkey.com) report total institutional ownership in the 94-97% range across all of them combined; the 13 rows here are only the top ~12 institutional holders (each independently re-verified against its own fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR) plus the small officers/directors group, not an exhaustive list.
- STERIS's own DEF 14A (filed 2026-06-11) 5%-owners table is built entirely on stale Schedule 13G/13G-A filings (BlackRock as of a 13G/A filed 8 Nov 2024; Vanguard Capital Management and Vanguard Portfolio Management as of 13Gs filed Apr 2026; State Street as of a 13G filed 12 May 2026), and does not attempt to combine Vanguard's full multi-entity family. Every one of those holders is reconciled against the fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR figure used in this file's register, with both figures recorded in the row's method_note; the correction is not one-directional (BlackRock's fresh figure is actually lower than its stale 13G figure).
- Capital Group was checked and found to hold NOTHING in STERIS: all three registrants this project tracks for Capital Group, Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849), Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230) and Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848), were checked directly against their own fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR information tables (all filed 2026-08-12) for CUSIP G8473T100; none holds a position in STERIS. No register row added, per project rule that a checked-and-empty holder is a note, not a null row.
- Fidelity/FMR LLC (CIK 0000315066) was checked and holds only 55,046 shares (0.06% of the company) per its Q2 2026 13F-HR filed 14 Aug 2026, below the threshold for inclusion in the top-12 register; not added as a row.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Exact dollar value of STERIS's approximately one-third equity-method stake in the unnamed non-U.S. healthcare product manufacturer: the FY2026 10-K states only that the $134.0 million total 'fiscal 2026 investments' figure is 'predominantly' related to this stake, not the exact split, and does not disclose the investee's carrying value on the balance sheet separately from other, smaller equity investments.
- Name of the investee in that equity-method investment: not disclosed anywhere in STERIS's 10-K, 10-Q, or any 8-K found via SEC full-text search, and not identified via web search either.
- Ownership percentages for six of the seven asterisked (not-wholly-owned) entities in STERIS's FY2026 Exhibit 21.1: STERIS TOMOE (Thailand) Ltd., STERIS Tomoe Singapore Pte. Ltd., Massaro Limited Partnership (Victory Road), Sterile Supplies Limited, STERIS Bethpage Processing, LLC, and Bioster-Mottahedoon Egypt SAE. Exhibit 21.1 marks them as not wholly owned but gives no percentage column (unlike some other registrants' Exhibit 21s in this project), and no percentage was found in the 10-K, 10-Q, DEF 14A, other 8-K exhibits searched, or public web search (the Tomoe JVs were confirmed to exist via STERIS press coverage of a Singapore ethylene-oxide facility announced July 2024, but no ownership split was disclosed there either).
- Whether the 51%/49% STERIS-SHINVA split confirmed from a 2021 8-K exhibit still holds exactly as of 2026: the entity remains asterisked (not wholly owned) in the FY2026 Exhibit 21.1, which is consistent with an ongoing partial ownership, but no filing closer to today restates the precise percentage.
- Janus Henderson Group plc's STE position: it ranks among STERIS's top-15 holders in this project's own March-2026 snapshot (1,863,139 shares), but Janus Henderson Group plc itself (CIK 0001274173) files only Schedule 13G/A, not Form 13F; the actual 13F-filing subsidiary entity was not identified within the research time budget, so no fresh Q2 2026 figure was obtained and no register row was added for it.
- Precise current ownership structure/date for STERIS-AUSTAR Pharmaceutical Systems Hong Kong Limited's exit (Austar Equipment's buyout of STERIS Mauritius's 51% stake for $1.5 million): the exact closing date was not confirmed against a primary STERIS SEC filing, only against third-party news coverage of an Austar Lifesciences corporate action.
