The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,397 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,397 managers reported a position, together holding 95.8m shares, or 86.1% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 111.3m shares outstanding at 31 Mar 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Rockwell Automation has a September fiscal year end. Its most recent 10-K (filed 2025-11-12) covers FY2025, the year ended 30 September 2025. Its most recent 10-Q (filed 2026-08-04) covers the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (fiscal Q3 2026). Shares outstanding, register as_of dates and percentages in this file use the 30 June 2026 basis throughout, matching the Q2 2026 13F valuation date.
- Holdings search: the Q3 FY2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K were both searched for 'PTC', 'Sensia', 'equity method', 'unconsolidated', 'joint venture', 'noncontrolling', 'Plex', 'Clearpath', 'affiliate', 'non-marketable' and 'investment in'. Three named items surfaced, and none of them is a current reportable holding: (1) PTC Inc., in which Rockwell once held a large minority stake, was fully divested; the FY2025 10-K states plainly 'As of September 30, 2023, all PTC Shares had been sold', so Rockwell holds zero PTC shares as of the most recent filings (share count: 0, not a position). (2) Sensia, a 50/50 industrial-automation joint venture with SLB (Schlumberger) that had historically been an equity-method or jointly-controlled investment, was DISSOLVED on 1 April 2026: the joint venture partners signed a separation agreement in December 2025, the disposal group was classified held-for-sale in Q1 FY2026, and on dissolution the underlying businesses were distributed back to the respective partners at fair value (Rockwell received a $40 million cash payment and recognized a $20 million pre-tax gain). Rockwell therefore holds no Sensia stake as of the Q3 FY2026 10-Q. (3) Clearpath Robotics, referenced in both filings, was a business Rockwell ACQUIRED outright (2 October 2023) with its own purchase-price allocation, goodwill and intangible assets; it is a wholly owned, fully consolidated operating business, not a minority equity holding, and is excluded per the brief's exclusion of wholly owned subsidiaries.
- The FY2025 10-K's accounting-policy note states generically: 'Investments in affiliates over which we do not have control but exercise significant influence are accounted for using the equity method of accounting. These affiliated companies are not material individually or in the aggregate to our financial position, results of operations, or cash flows.' No specific investee is named for this category (distinct from the now-dissolved, individually material Sensia JV), and the associated income-statement line ('Equity method gain (loss) on Other investments') is $0 to $1 million across FY2023 to FY2025, so per the no-combined-balance rule no individual holding can be sized or named from this disclosure. Result: holdings is an empty array. No material equity stakes in other companies (public or private) were found for Rockwell Automation in the most recent 10-Q or 10-K.
- Register reconciliation on the top two holders. Rockwell's FY2026 proxy (beneficial ownership table sourced from Schedule 13G/A filings, computed against 112,433,185 shares outstanding on the 15 Dec 2025 record date for the >5% table) reports BlackRock, Inc. at 8,629,318 shares (7.6%, per a 13G/A filed 5 Feb 2025) and The Vanguard Group at 13,610,512 shares (11.88%, per a 13G/A filed 13 Feb 2024). This file instead uses each manager's own Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 June 2026 position dates), which is far more current: BlackRock is HIGHER at 12,380,576 shares and Vanguard is LOWER at 13,198,967 shares versus the stale 13G figures cited in the proxy, consistent with position changes over the roughly 18 months to 2 years between the cited 13G/A dates and 30 June 2026 rather than a data error.
- The Vanguard rule. Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) for the quarter ended 30 June 2026. Its Rockwell Automation position is instead reported by two successor entities, Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC, summed into a single Vanguard row per rule 7.
- The T. Rowe Price family was checked across both verified entities. T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) holds 1,241,264 shares; its filing reports dollar values in THOUSANDS (the thousands trap), rescaled here by a factor of 1000 to $614,526,000 so its implied price per share (~$495.06) matches the ~$495 cluster from every other Q2 2026 filer checked. T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612), the separate registrant in the same family, holds no Rockwell Automation position for Q2 2026. This is a family roll-up naming both entities and CIKs, not a Vanguard-style parent/successor case (neither files a 13F-NT) and not a proxy aggregate, so is_aggregate is not set on the T. Rowe Price row.
- The Capital Group family (Capital World Investors CIK 0001422849, Capital International Investors CIK 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors CIK 0001422848) was checked and NONE of the three holds Rockwell Automation (CUSIP 773903109) in its Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR. Fragment searches for 'ROCKWELL' and 'AUTOMATION' returned zero hits in all three filings; a broader 'ROCK' fragment search confirmed each filer's CUSIPs beginning with 'ROCK' belong to unrelated issuers (Rocket Cos, Rocket Lab, Scholar Rock, Red Rock Resorts, Archrock, BlackRock). Omitted from the register as a zero position, not an unknown.
- No Schedule 13D or 13D/A has been filed against Rockwell Automation, Inc. (CIK 0001024478) since 1 August 2023, and no Schedule 13G or 13G/A since 14 November 2024, per the EDGAR submissions feed checked for this task. No current 13D/G filer is added to the register beyond what the FY2026 proxy's stale 13G citations already show (superseded here by fresher 13F data for the same holders, see above).
- Insider ownership is immaterial and there is no dual-class or founder-control structure. Blake D. Moret (Chairman, President and CEO) beneficially owns 529,063 shares (0.47% of class, computed from the proxy's own figures; the proxy's table itself omits a percentage for any individual holder below its threshold). The full 23-person group beneficially owns 858,401 shares, 0.76% of class, as stated directly in the proxy.
- Market capitalization of $49.37 billion and the $444.60 close are stockanalysis.com's figures as of market close, 17 August 2026. Cross-check: 111,048,676 shares x $444.60 implies approximately $49.37 billion, consistent with the reported market cap.
- Self-gate check (computed as the chart computes it): the 12 non-aggregate, non-rolled-up register rows (Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street, Geode, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, Schwab IM, Northern Trust, Norges Bank, T. Rowe Price, Bank of America, FMR) plus the insider group row (reduced for the Moret member row it contains, per the rollup rule) total 47,847,782 shares out of 111,048,676 outstanding, or 43.09%. 14 register rows in total. Within the expected 25 to 45 percent range.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Whether Rockwell holds any equity method investment besides the now-dissolved Sensia joint venture. The FY2025 10-K's generic accounting policy note references 'affiliates' (plural) that are 'not material individually or in the aggregate', but no specific investee besides Sensia (now dissolved) is named in either the FY2025 10-K or the Q3 FY2026 10-Q, and the associated gain/loss line is $0-1 million, too small and too combined to assign to any single company.
- Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc or Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co) were not individually checked for a Rockwell Automation position; if they hold shares, the true Vanguard aggregate is somewhat higher than the 13,198,967 shares used here.
- Wells Fargo, MFS, Wellington, Franklin Resources, Dodge & Cox and UBS (all present among the larger Q1 2026 register snapshot at data/registers/ROK.json but ranked below the twelve holders included here, or not individually re-verified against a fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR within the tool-call budget) were not re-checked and are omitted from the register; the Q1 2026 snapshot shows UBS Group AG, Goldman Sachs, Invesco and several others also holding positions of comparable or larger size to some included rows, so the exact rank order below FMR (12th here) is not fully re-verified for Q2 2026.
- The exact dollar value of Rockwell's PTC Inc. stake at its peak, and the exact date each PTC share was sold, are not sourced here; only the FY2025 10-K's confirmation that zero PTC shares remained as of 30 September 2023 was needed to establish it is not a current holding.
- Whether any Vanguard-family, T. Rowe Price family, or Capital Group family CIK filed a Schedule 13D or 13G specifically on Rockwell Automation in 2025 or 2026 was not separately checked beyond the company-level EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0001024478, which shows no such filing since November 2024.
