The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 885 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
885 managers reported a position, together holding 35.4m shares, or 89.8% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 39.4m shares outstanding at 1 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- HOLDINGS SIDE (what HII owns in others): searched the FY2025 10-K (filed 2026-02-05, period 2025-12-31) and the latest 10-Q (filed 2026-07-30, period 2026-06-30) for 'equity method', 'joint venture', 'unconsolidated', 'non-marketable'/'nonmarketable', 'variable interest entity', 'minority interest', 'non-controlling interest', 'affiliate', 'significant influence', 'carrying value', 'miscellaneous other assets', '% interest', '% ownership', 'acquisition'/'acquired'. Also checked Exhibit 21 of the 10-K (hii-ex211202510xk.htm): a plain name-and-jurisdiction list of roughly 30 entities, all recognisably HII-branded subsidiaries (e.g. Ingalls Shipbuilding Inc, Newport News Nuclear Inc, HII Unmanned Systems Inc), no ownership-percentage column and no joint-venture or LP/LLC partner entity listed. Per this project's own guidance, a bare name list with no percentage column is a genuine negative rather than evidence of looking in the wrong place.
- HII does hold equity-method investments (10-K accounting policy: investments where the Company has significant influence but not control), but they are never individually named or sized: they are folded into the single 'Miscellaneous other assets' balance-sheet line ($417 million at FY2025-end, $402 million at FY2024-end), which itself also contains pension-plan trust assets, right-of-use assets for finance leases, capitalized cloud-computing costs, and a loan receivable, with no per-item breakout. This is a combined-balance trap: no individual investee value can be derived, so nothing is recorded in holdings and the combined figure is not attributable to any one entity.
- Income from these equity-method investments is reported as 'Income from Operating Investments, net': $46 million (FY2025), $49 million (FY2024), $37 million (FY2023). The Q2 2026 10-Q MD&A attributes part of the increase in the Mission Technologies segment to 'higher equity income from nuclear and environmental joint ventures', but again does not name any specific joint venture.
- The only individually named equity-method investment in either filing is Titan Acquisition Holdings, L.P.: in 2021 HII contributed its San Diego Shipyard business in exchange for a 10% non-controlling equity-method interest, then SOLD that entire stake in 2023 for $63 million in proceeds (immaterial loss on sale). This is a fully exited position, recorded here as a note with no holdings row per the brief's rule that an exited stake is a note, not a row.
- Conclusion on holdings: the empty array is a sourced finding, not a gap. No currently-held, individually named, sizeable equity stake in another entity was found in the FY2025 10-K, the Q2 2026 10-Q, or Exhibit 21.
- REGISTER SIDE: entity discovery used this project's own data/registers/HII.json (31-Mar-2026 13F snapshot) ONLY to identify which holder entities to check; every share/value figure in the register above was refetched fresh from each holder's own Q2 2026 (period 2026-06-30) 13F-HR information table, filed 7-14 Aug 2026.
- Vanguard family: parent CIK 0000102909 (The Vanguard Group, Inc.) filed a Form 13F-NT (a notice carrying no holdings) for Q2 2026, so per the family-sweep rule all 7 successor entities that filed 13F-HR were summed into one row (4,974,409 shares total). See that row's method_note for the per-entity breakdown and CIKs.
- Capital Group was swept per the brief's instruction: Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849), Capital International Investors (0001562230), and Capital Research Global Investors (0001422848) were each checked directly against CUSIP 446413106 in their own Q2 2026 13F-HR information tables. None hold HII: no row was added, per the rule that a holder confirmed at zero is a note, not a null row.
- T. Rowe Price was swept per the brief's instruction on both registrants: T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) holds 57,595 shares (included as a row; values-in-thousands convention applied, see that row's method_note). T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612) holds zero HII shares: its Q2 2026 13F-HR information table's only 'HUNTINGTON' match was Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (CUSIP 446150104, an unrelated regional bank), confirming (like the project's own Snap-on/Snap Inc precedent) that a name fragment can collide with a different company and must be checked against the CUSIP (HII's is 446413106).
- The proxy (DEF 14A, filed 2026-03-20) reports a >5%-holders table sourced from old Schedule 13G/13G-A filings: Vanguard 5,013,651 sh / 12.73% (13G/A filed 13 Feb 2024); BlackRock 2,860,949 sh / 7.27%; State Street 2,812,017 sh / 7.14% (13G dated as of 30 Sep 2025); FMR LLC 3,391,694 sh / 8.61%; Van Eck Associates Corp 2,117,662 sh / 5.38% (13G filed 7 Mar 2025). Per the brief's rule to prefer the fresh Q2 2026 13F over any stale 13G, the register above uses the fresh 13F figures instead, which run LOWER for Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street and FMR, and roughly HALF for Van Eck: both directions of correction the brief warns about are present here.
- SELF-GATE (computed from this final file, using the chart's own arithmetic: raw shares summed for every row, since none of the 11 rows here has rolls_up_into pointing at any other row, so no reduction applies): 11 register rows, total 17,885,104 shares, 45.39% of shares_outstanding (39,404,598). This sits at the top of, but within, the project's expected roughly-25%-to-45% band; the research brief itself names HII specifically as a small-share-count company with concentrated index ownership where the total is expected to run high in that range.
- shares_outstanding = 39,404,598 as of 24 July 2026, taken from the cover page of the Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 2026-07-30, period 2026-06-30), the freshest cover-page figure available; this is newer than both the FY2025 10-K cover page (39,242,688 as of 30 Jan 2026) and the DEF 14A's ownership-table date (39,377,171 as of 28 Feb 2026).
- market_cap_usd ($12.74bn) and its as_of date were taken from a web search summarizing stockanalysis.com's live quote page (HII last traded around $323.28/share on 19 Aug 2026), not a filing; treated as a lower-confidence, aggregator-sourced figure distinct from the filed register/holdings data above.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- No filing found that breaks the 'miscellaneous other assets' equity-method balance ($417 million at FY2025-end) down by individual joint venture or investee; searched the FY2025 10-K, the Q2 2026 10-Q, and Exhibit 21 of the 10-K as detailed in notes.
- No currently-held equity-method investment is named anywhere in the FY2025 10-K or Q2 2026 10-Q; only the exited Titan Acquisition Holdings, L.P. stake (sold 2023) is named.
- market_cap_usd was not sourced from a filing or a directly fetched quote page; it came from a web-search summary of stockanalysis.com and should be treated as approximate.
- Sovereign or other strategic (non-institutional-manager) holders beyond the register above were not separately identified; none appeared among the roughly 40 holder names in the project's own 31-Mar-2026 HII register snapshot beyond the entities already checked here.
