The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 648 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
648 managers reported a position, together holding 63.9m shares, or 82.3% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 77.6m shares outstanding at 30 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Holdings side is EMPTY BY DESIGN. Globe Life's general-account investment portfolio (fixed maturities ~86% of invested assets, commercial mortgage loans, limited partnerships/alternative investments, and 'other long-term investments' which the FY2025 10-K states include 'investment funds, equity securities, company-owned life insurance (COLI) and real estate') is exactly the kind of insurer general-account holding the brief excludes: these equity securities are reported at fair value with changes flowing through 'Realized gains (losses),' i.e. they are float-backing portfolio positions, not strategic stakes in operating companies. Searched the FY2025 10-K (filed 25 Feb 2026) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (filed 5 Aug 2026, the freshest filing available) for 'equity method' (1 hit in the 10-K: a generic policy statement that limited partnership fair-value-option investments 'would have been otherwise accounted for as an equity method investment,' not a named investee), 'unconsolidated' (1 hit: limited partnerships/investment funds qualifying as unconsolidated VIEs, part of the same alternative-investment portfolio, ~3% of total assets, reported at NAV, no single investee named or individually sized), 'joint venture' (0 hits in either filing), 'non-marketable' (0 hits), 'investment in' / 'Investment in affiliates' (the only material hit, $8,541,107 thousand on the PARENT-COMPANY-ONLY (Schedule I) balance sheet, is the holding company's investment in its own wholly-owned insurance subsidiaries, i.e. consolidated subsidiaries excluded from holdings by the brief's own terms, not a minority equity-method stake), 'affiliate' (only generic references to 'Globe Life Inc. subsidiaries and affiliates'), and 'limited partnership' (21 hits in the 10-K, all describing the same alternative-investment sleeve of the general account). No named equity-method investee, joint venture, or minority strategic stake in another operating company was found anywhere in either filing.
- Exhibit 21.1 of the FY2025 10-K was checked directly and is confirmed to be a bare list of Globe Life's wholly-owned significant subsidiaries (name, state of incorporation, distribution channel) with NO ownership-percentage column at all, consistent with the Labcorp/Darden pattern the brief describes as a genuine negative rather than evidence of an unexplored lead.
- No Schedule 13D or 13D/A has ever been filed against Globe Life (CIK 0000320335) per EDGAR's own SC 13 filing history for the company, so no activist stake was found despite the company being the subject of a short-seller report (Fuzzy Panda, April 2024) and related securities litigation in 2024-2025; institutional turnover among the largest holders since then is reflected in this register by using fresh Q2 2026 13F data rather than the 2024-2025 filings the litigation period would otherwise point to.
- The 2026 DEF 14A's 5%-owner table cites a Vanguard Group Schedule 13G/A 'filed with the SEC on January 30, 2026' (10,090,653 sh, 12.76%) and a BlackRock Schedule 13F-HR 'filed with the SEC on February 12, 2026' (5,689,077 sh, 7.19%). Neither of these could be independently located: EDGAR's own SC 13 filing history for Globe Life (CIK 0000320335) shows no SC 13G or SC 13G/A filed since 8 Nov 2024, and Vanguard Group Inc's own CIK 0000102909 filing history shows no SC 13G/A in Jan-Feb 2026 either. Per the brief's instruction to prefer the fresh Q2 2026 13F over any stale 13G quoted in a proxy, this register uses the fresh Q2 2026 13F-derived figures for both Vanguard and BlackRock, with the proxy-cited figures preserved in each holder's own method_note as a reconciliation point; the correction runs in BOTH directions here (Vanguard's fresh figure is lower than the proxy's, BlackRock's is also lower), which is itself consistent with Globe Life's heavy ongoing buyback shrinking the share count these older filings were denominated against.
- Capital Group family: ALL ELEVEN registrants identified from EDGAR company search were checked directly for their own Q2 2026 (period 2026-06-30) 13F filing and NONE holds Globe Life (CUSIP 37959E102). Eight file Form 13F-HR with holdings (Capital World Investors 0001422849, Capital International Investors 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors 0001422848, Capital International Inc/CA 0000895213, Capital Group Investment Management Pte Ltd 0001939970, Capital Group Private Client Services Inc 0001857666, Capital International Sarl 0001065349, Capital International Ltd/CA 0001065350) and none of their information tables contains a Globe Life row; three file Form 13F-NT with no holdings at all (Capital Group Companies Inc 0000732812, Capital Research and Management Company 0000017283, Capital Group International Inc 0000949308). This is recorded as a genuine, checked negative: Capital Group holds nothing in Globe Life as of 30 Jun 2026, so it is a note rather than a null or zero row.
- T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612) was checked directly against its own Q2 2026 13F-HR and holds ZERO shares of Globe Life; the position sits entirely with T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255), which is the row included in the register above.
- Vanguard National Trust Co (CIK 0001984256), one of the seven Vanguard successor entities named in this project's own data/registers/GL.json, was checked directly against its own Q2 2026 13F-HR and holds ZERO shares of Globe Life, so it contributes nothing to the Vanguard family total above.
- Implied per-share price cross-check: dividing each row's filed dollar value by its filed share count gives $178.68/share for essentially every institutional row (Vanguard's 7 contributing entities, BlackRock, Invesco, State Street, Dimensional, Morgan Stanley, AQR, Nuveen, Arrowstreet, Pzena, Swedbank, Fidelity, Wellington, and both T. Rowe Price CIKs), all independently dated 30 Jun 2026. Geode is very slightly lower at $178.44/sh, within normal cross-filer rounding noise. No implied price sits materially off this band, so no values-in-thousands or unit error is present outside T. Rowe Price (already corrected for).
- Self-gate, computed from this final file exactly as the chart computes it: 16 register rows, none marked as a member rolling up into another (the officers/directors aggregate has no member rows), so every row counts at full value. Sum of shares: 40,414,722 (15 institutional rows) + 1,739,398 (officers/directors aggregate) = 42,154,120 shares, against shares_outstanding 76,849,447 = 54.85% of the company. This sits just under the brief's 55% flag threshold; investigated for the three usual causes and none was found (every institutional row is the same CUSIP 37959E102 common stock at a uniform ~$178.68/sh implied price as of the same 30 Jun 2026 date, no holder appears twice, and the Vanguard and Capital Group and T. Rowe Price families were each correctly checked entity-by-entity rather than assumed). The reading is plausible for a heavily bought-back, widely institutionally owned mid-cap insurer: Globe Life's own float has shrunk materially (92,218,183 shares issued vs only 76,849,447 outstanding at the same 30 Jun 2026 date, i.e. roughly 16.7% of issued shares sit in treasury), which mechanically concentrates the register's percentage of the smaller outstanding-share denominator even where absolute institutional share counts are unremarkable.
- data/registers/GL.json (this project's own Q1 2026, 31 Mar 2026 13F snapshot) was used only to enumerate the Vanguard family's entity names and CIKs, per the brief's explicit instruction; its own share figures are one quarter stale and were not used for any value in this file. That snapshot's total_shares_reported field (63,931,937) is a truncated top-40 sum from an earlier quarter and a different share-outstanding base, so it is not comparable to this file's self-gate total and was not used as corroboration of any level, only as a bound-from-above check that every row here (Vanguard, BlackRock, Invesco, State Street, Geode) is a subset of a name that also appears there.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Globe Life's own investment-portfolio disclosures name no individual equity-method investee, joint venture, or minority strategic stake; the 10-K's single 'equity method' reference is a generic accounting-policy sentence about limited partnerships electing the fair value option, not a named holding, so there is nothing to size on the holdings side.
- The 2026 DEF 14A cites a Vanguard Group Schedule 13G/A filed 30 Jan 2026 and a BlackRock Schedule 13F-HR filed 12 Feb 2026 that could not be located in EDGAR's own filing history for either Globe Life or Vanguard Group Inc as of this research; it is unclear whether this is a proxy drafting/citation error, a filing indexed under a CIK not checked here, or an EDGAR data lag, but it does not affect this file since fresh Q2 2026 13F data was used regardless.
- No sovereign wealth fund, corporate strategic holder, or activist 13D position was found anywhere in Globe Life's ownership; the register here is entirely conventional institutional asset managers plus the insider/officer aggregate.
