Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from The Cigna Group's own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website comes from Wikidata. The headcount is the figure Wikidata carries for 2021, not a figure this site has verified against a filing. Description
The Cigna Group is an American multinational for-profit managed healthcare and insurance company based in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Cigna's insurance subsidiaries are major providers of medical, dental, disability, life and accident insurance and related products and services, the majority of which are offered through employers and other groups (e.g., governmental and non-governmental organizations, unions and associations).
Equity stakes The Cigna Group holds in other companies.
No position on this side carries a sourced value, so there is nothing to chart. The table still lists 2 of them.
Select a row or a slice for its provenance: the filing it came from, when it was measured, and the arithmetic behind it if it was modelled.
The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,627 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,627 managers reported a position, together holding 234.9m shares, or 88.8% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 264.5m shares outstanding at 24 Apr 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- The HCSC divestiture leaves no residual equity stake for Cigna. The 10-K's 'Key Transactions and Business Developments' section states the sale of Medicare Advantage, Medicare Individual Stand-Alone Prescription Drug Plans, Medicare and Other Supplemental Benefits, and CareAllies businesses to Health Care Service Corporation closed 19 March 2025 for a final purchase price and total cash proceeds of $4.9 billion, used primarily for share repurchases. No mention of equity consideration was found anywhere the HCSC transaction is discussed in the FY2025 10-K or Q2 2026 10-Q; this was a cash-only divestiture, fully closed before the research window, so it correctly produces no holding row.
- VillageMD (Cigna's primary-care joint venture with Walgreens Boots Alliance) was fully impaired in FY2024 with a $2.7 billion loss and shows no further material impairment or mention at all in the Q2 2026 10-Q. Recorded in holdings at value_usd 0 per the brief's instruction that an impairment to zero is still a real disclosed fact worth recording, not dropping. Ownership percentage and share count were not disclosed in either filing searched.
- Evernorth Health Services and Express Scripts are wholly owned operating subsidiaries of The Cigna Group and are excluded from holdings per the brief.
- Cigna's China insurance joint venture (50% equity-method interest, partner not named in either filing searched) is the one individually-sized equity-method holding found: carrying value $(296) million as of 31 December 2025, per the FY2025 10-K's Note 14 (Collectively Significant Operating Unconsolidated Subsidiaries). This is negative because the joint venture's carrying value absorbs the Company's $1,672 million share of AOCI losses (mostly discount-rate and unrealized-investment effects on long-duration liabilities), not because the underlying business is unprofitable. The much larger figures quoted alongside it ($18.2 billion at 31 Dec 2025, $20.9 billion at 30 Jun 2026) are the investment portfolio backing the joint venture's insurance liabilities, not the value of Cigna's equity stake, and are not used as the holding's value.
- The Vanguard case is the successor case (parent CIK 0000102909 filed 13F-NT, no holdings, for the quarter ended 30 June 2026), not the combined-family case used for Capital Group. Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC, the two Vanguard successor CIKs verified for this project, are summed into one register row per the brief's Vanguard rule.
- Capital Group is the combined-family case: three separate Capital Group entities (Capital World Investors, Capital Research Global Investors, Capital International Investors) each file their own Form 13F-HR. Two hold Cigna and are summed into one row naming both entities and CIKs in the method_note; the third, Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230), was checked and confirmed to hold no Cigna position this quarter.
- The Cigna Group has a single class of common stock, one vote per share. There is no dual-class structure and no founder control block; David M. Cordani (CEO since 2009, Chair since 2022) is the largest individual insider holder at 1,204,028 shares (0.457%), well below the level of a strategic or activist stake.
- 13F values are each manager's own reported market value at 30 June 2026, in whole dollars (post-2023 13F schema reports dollars, not thousands). The eleven Q2 2026 13F filings imply a consistent Cigna quarter-end mark of approximately $275.60-$276.00 per share.
- Market capitalization ($73.26 billion) and share price ($277.26) are as published on stockanalysis.com intraday on 17 August 2026 (a market-data page, not a filing); shares outstanding used everywhere else in this file comes from Cigna's own Q2 2026 10-Q cover page (264,240,486 shares as of 24 July 2026).
- Self-gate (computed from this file): the 11 institutional 13F rows plus the 401(k) stock fund (Vanguard combined, BlackRock, State Street, MFS, FMR, Geode, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Northern Trust, Capital Group combined, and the Cigna 401(k) Plan stock fund) are neither members (rolls_up_into) nor aggregates. 12 rows, 104,296,881 shares total, 39.47% of the 264,240,486 shares outstanding denominator. This falls inside the 25 to 45% band the brief expects. The Cordani row (rolls_up_into the aggregate) and the 'All Directors, Nominees, and Executive Officers as a group' row (is_aggregate) are correctly excluded from this sum, consistent with the overlap-marking rules.
- No em dashes are used in any text field per the brief.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The legal name of Cigna's joint-venture partner in the China insurance joint venture. Not stated in the FY2025 10-K or the Q2 2026 10-Q text searched (only 'insurance joint venture in China' is used); no outside source was used per the brief's instruction against training-data facts.
- Cigna's exact ownership percentage and share count in VillageMD. Searched the FY2025 10-K (only mentions naming VillageMD appear in MD&A and the fair-value note) and the Q2 2026 10-Q (zero hits for 'VillageMD'); neither discloses an ownership percentage, only the fact and amount of the 2024 impairment.
- Whether Cigna Ventures (the Company's venture-capital arm) holds any individually material, named strategic stakes. Searched 'Cigna Ventures' in both the FY2025 10-K and Q2 2026 10-Q; zero hits in either, so no venture-portfolio holding could be sourced within the time budget.
- Any Schedule 13D/13G filed on Cigna by an activist or sovereign holder beyond what the DEF 14A itself discloses (Vanguard and BlackRock 13G references only). No independent EDGAR full-text sweep for 13D/13G filers on Cigna was run within the time budget.
- Cigna's Q3 2026 10-Q (period ending on or about 30 September 2026) was not yet filed as of 17 August 2026 (checked against the EDGAR submissions feed for CIK 0001739940), so any change in the China joint venture's carrying value or other equity-method balances since 30 June 2026 is not visible.
- Whether Cigna's 'Other long-term investments' (limited partnerships and LLCs holding real estate, securities or loans, referenced in the Q2 2026 10-Q's investment note) contain any individually material, named equity stake. The Q2 2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K both describe this as a diversified portfolio with no single investment exceeding a low single-digit percentage of that pool, and no per-investee breakdown was found.
