The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,377 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,377 managers reported a position, together holding 230.1m shares, or 83.6% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of a share count taken later than this quarter, because the count in force at the snapshot is not published as a structured fact for this company. Where the count has moved since, the figures are off by that much.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Holdings: Cadence's most recent 10-Q (period 30 June 2026, filed 29 July 2026) and FY2025 10-K (period 31 December 2025, filed 19 February 2026) were both searched for 'equity method', 'unconsolidated', 'joint venture', 'strategic investment', 'non-marketable equity securities', 'equity securities', 'investment in' and 'noncontrolling'. One individually sized, sourced position exists: a 10.5% equity-method interest in an unnamed privately held company, carrying value $46.6 million at 30 June 2026 ($51.0 million at 31 December 2025). Two additional balances exist but are combined across multiple investees and so are excluded from holdings per the rule that a combined balance sizes none of its investees individually: (1) 'Marketable Equity Investments', purchased shares of publicly held companies, carrying value $11.2 million at 30 June 2026 ($83.2 million at 31 December 2025); (2) 'other non-marketable investments in privately held companies where Cadence does not have the ability to exercise significant influence', carrying value $43.0 million at 30 June 2026 ($16.6 million at 31 December 2025). Neither combined balance names or sizes an individual investee in either filing.
- Vanguard case: successor sum, not single parent. Vanguard Group Inc (CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT for the quarter ended 30 June 2026 (accession 0000102909-26-002714; its filing directory contains only primary_doc.xml, no infoTable). Its position is represented by the sum of Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119, 18,016,381 shares) and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (CIK 0002100121, 6,961,873 shares), 24,978,254 shares total. Other smaller Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers (e.g. Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co) were not individually checked within the time budget; see unknowns.
- Capital Group is three independently filing entities, not a Vanguard-style successor structure. All three were checked by name fragment ('CADENCE', 'CADENCE DESIGN') and by CUSIP (127387108) against their full Q2 2026 information tables. Only Capital International Investors (CIK 0001562230) holds CDNS, 4,886,202 shares. Capital World Investors (CIK 0001422849, 637 rows checked) and Capital Research Global Investors (CIK 0001422848, 426 rows checked) hold none. The Capital Group row sums only the one entity that actually holds, per the brief's instruction to name entities and CIKs and not assume all three hold. This row is a roll-up naming the constituent entities, not a proxy container, so is_aggregate is not set on it.
- T. Rowe Price is two separate 13F-HR filers, both with the thousands-reporting defect this project has seen before (flagged in marvell.json and pnc.json for other filers). T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) raw filed value 393,626 for 1,048,772 shares implies $0.375/share, about 1,000x below the ~$375 cluster every other CDNS holder here implies (e.g. State Street's 4,890,941,670/13,031,391 = $375.32, JPMorgan's 2,931,781,842/7,865,907 = $372.72). T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612) shows the identical pattern: raw value 449,750 for 1,198,310 shares. Both are rescaled by x1,000 in this file (to $393,626,000 and $449,750,000 respectively, summed to $843,376,000 for the combined T. Rowe Price Group row), bringing both into the $375/share cluster.
- BlackRock's Q2 2026 13F reports CUSIP 127387108 under two titles of class, 'COM' (21 lines) and 'OPTIONS' (9 lines, all Call options with the putCall flag set). The 9 options lines were excluded from BlackRock's register row per the brief's derivative exclusion rule; only the 21 common-stock lines (26,660,845 shares) are counted. JPMorgan similarly reports a 25,000 share Call option under a separate derivative CUSIP (127387958), excluded from its 7,865,907 share common total.
- Register reconciliation on the two largest holders per the proxy's own 13G-based summary. Cadence's 2026 proxy statement (Security Ownership table, Record Date 9 March 2026, denominator 276,092,068 shares) reports BlackRock, Inc. at 21,898,161 shares (7.93%) as of 31 March 2025 per Amendment No. 18 to its Schedule 13G/A, and The Vanguard Group at 27,230,987 shares (9.86%) as of 31 December 2025 per Amendment No. 14 to its Schedule 13G/A. The register instead uses each manager's Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR (30 June 2026 position dates): BlackRock at 26,660,845 shares and Vanguard's successor sum at 24,978,254 shares. BlackRock's 13F figure is materially higher than its March-2025-dated 13G figure (about 4.8 million shares higher, consistent with roughly 15 months of position growth and the passive/active mandate difference between a 13G beneficial-ownership filing and a 13F institutional-manager filing), while Vanguard's two figures are reasonably close given the 6-month gap between the December 2025 13G date and the June 2026 13F date. Both figures come from the filers' own SEC filings at different dates under different reporting regimes; recorded here rather than resolved.
- Percentages for all non-insider register rows are computed against 275,393,000 common shares outstanding as of 30 June 2026 (the 10-Q cover-page figure for that same period end). The two proxy-sourced insider rows use the proxy's own Record Date denominator of 276,092,068 shares (9 March 2026) and are stated by the proxy itself only as 'less than 1%,' so pct_of_company is left null rather than invented for those two rows.
- Self-gate check: summing the 18 non-aggregate, non-insider register rows (BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, FMR, JPMorgan, Geode, Capital Group, Wellington, Morgan Stanley, Norges Bank, MFS, Northern Trust, Franklin, T. Rowe Price, Bank of America, Schwab IM, Wells Fargo, Dodge & Cox) gives 121,060,425 shares. Adding the insider rows per the chart's own reduction rule (Devgan's 823,017 shares counted in full since he rolls up into the group row; the group row counted at its residual 1,353,998 minus 823,017 = 530,981) gives a grand total of 122,414,423 shares against 275,393,000 shares outstanding, 44.45%, within the expected 25 to 45 percent range. Row count: 20 register rows total (18 institutional plus 2 insider).
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The identity of the privately held company behind Cadence's 10.5% equity-method interest, carrying value $46.6 million at 30 June 2026. Neither the Q2 2026 10-Q nor the FY2025 10-K names the investee; searched under 'equity method', 'equity method of accounting' and surrounding prose in both filings.
- The identities and number of companies inside Cadence's two combined equity-investment balances: 'Marketable Equity Investments' ($11.2 million at 30 June 2026) and 'other non-marketable investments in privately held companies where Cadence does not have the ability to exercise significant influence' ($43.0 million at 30 June 2026). Neither filing itemizes these balances by investee.
- Whether Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, or Vanguard Global Advisers) also hold CDNS shares. Not checked individually within the time budget; if they do, the true Vanguard aggregate is somewhat higher than the 24,978,254 shares used here.
- No exact percentage for the two insider rows (Devgan, and the 16-person group), since Cadence's 2026 proxy statement discloses only that each is 'less than 1%' of 276,092,068 shares, not the precise share count as a percentage. Looked in the Security Ownership of Certain Beneficial Owners and Management table of the DEF 14A filed 25 March 2026.
- No fresh Schedule 13D or 13G full-text search was run across all filers on CDNS common stock within the time budget; the register instead relies on the proxy's own summary of its most recent Schedule 13G/A reviews for BlackRock and Vanguard (reconciled against 13F data in notes) rather than an independent 13D/G search covering other potential filers.
- Institutional holders ranked below Dodge & Cox on the Q1 2026 13F aggregator snapshot (for example Jennison Associates, AllianceBernstein, Goldman Sachs, Van Eck, Invesco, UBS Group, Janus Henderson, Schroder Investment Management) were not individually verified against their own Q2 2026 13F-HR filings, since the 18 managers named in the task's verified-CIK list (plus the Capital Group and T. Rowe Price family checks) were already checked and satisfy the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement several times over.
