The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 849 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
849 managers reported a position, together holding 196.8m shares, or 93.4% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 210.8m shares outstanding at 3 Jun 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Holdings side is empty. Searched the newest 10-Q (filed 5 Jun 2026, period ended 2 May 2026, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/764478/000076447826000022/bby-20260502.htm) and the FY2026 10-K (filed 18 Mar 2026, period ended 31 Jan 2026, https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/764478/000076447826000009/bby-20260131.htm) for: equity method, joint venture, unconsolidated, non-marketable, nonmarketable, minority interest, equity securities, strategic investment, Current Health, Bell Canada, Best Buy Express, Best Buy Health, venture capital, investments in, unrealized gain, cost method, equity investment, other assets, marketable. None surfaced an equity-method investment, joint venture, or strategic/venture stake. 'Equity securities' hits were only Item 5/Item 2 boilerplate about Best Buy's OWN stock repurchases. 'Marketable securities that fund deferred compensation' ($41m/$39m) is a rabbi-trust investment vehicle funding Best Buy's own deferred-comp plan, not a strategic holding, and is excluded per the brief's money-market/treasury carve-out.
- Best Buy's fiscal year ends in late January. The FY2026 10-K (period 31 Jan 2026, filed 18 Mar 2026) is older than the Q1 FY2027 10-Q (period 2 May 2026, filed 5 Jun 2026), so the 10-Q is the newer document and was used for shares outstanding.
- Best Buy Express in Canada is a store-within-a-store arrangement in which Bell Canada LEASES and operates Best Buy Express locations under license; the 10-Q phrase is 'Best Buy Express stores leased by Bell Canada.' This is a commercial licensing/franchise arrangement, the same category as Williams-Sonoma's franchise agreements and Expeditors' agency relationships excluded earlier in this project, not an equity stake in either direction.
- Best Buy Health (including the Current Health remote-monitoring and Lively/GreatCall/Critical Signal Technologies acquisitions) is wholly owned. Exhibit 21.1 to the FY2026 10-K (https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/764478/000076447826000009/bby-fy26q4xex211.htm) lists Best Buy Health Holdings LLC, GC Buyer Inc., Best Buy Health, Inc. (dba Critical Signal Technologies, Lively, Lively North America) and GTL, Incorporated (dba CST Your Link to Life, Link to Life) with no '#' minority-interest marker, i.e. 100% owned. The FY2026 10-K also discloses an impairment tied to exiting 'a component of our Best Buy Health business in fiscal 2026'; this is a wholly owned business unit being wound down, not an equity stake, so it is not a holdings row (wholly owned acquisitions/divestitures are excluded per the brief).
- Exhibit 21.1 (subsidiaries at 31 Jan 2026) marks exactly two entities with '#', meaning 'not wholly owned by us; in each instance, our ownership interest is greater than 90%': Albedo Lessee 2, LLC and Prospero II Master Tenant, LLC. Read alongside the nearby USB RETC Fund entries (US Bancorp Renewable Energy Tax Credit funds), these read as tax-equity financing SPVs for Best Buy's own rooftop-solar/equipment program, where an outside bank investor holds a small minority stake in Best Buy's own majority-controlled, consolidated subsidiary. This is the reverse of a holding (a third party's minority stake IN a Best Buy subsidiary, not Best Buy's equity stake IN another company), no name identifies an external investee company, and no value or exact percentage is disclosed, so no row was created; treated the same as a genuine negative the way Darden's plain subsidiary list was.
- Register: 12 rows, 113,133,783 shares summed the way the chart computes it (no rolls_up_into containers reduced; Richard Schulze is explicitly outside the directors/officers group per the proxy so nothing rolls into that aggregate row), against shares_outstanding of 210,767,126 (10-Q cover page, 3 Jun 2026) = 53.68% of the company. This sits just under the brief's 55% ceiling; Best Buy's institutional ownership is unusually concentrated among a small number of very large index managers, which is consistent with the top 4 holders (BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, Geode) alone totalling roughly 34%.
- Capital Group was swept across all six registrants (Capital World Investors CIK 1422849, Capital International Investors CIK 1562230, Capital Research Global Investors CIK 1422848, Capital International, Inc. CIK 895213, Capital International Ltd CIK 1065350, Capital International Sarl CIK 1065349), each on its own Q2 2026 (period 2026-06-30) 13F-HR. None held Best Buy. This is a checked-and-confirmed zero, so no row (per the rule that a holder found at zero is a note, not a null row).
- FMR LLC (Fidelity) held 168,630 shares ($12,795,679) and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 80255) held 283,702 shares as of 30 Jun 2026; T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 1897612) held none. Both are far smaller than the top-12 cutoff (all below Morgan Stanley's 3.7m shares) so were left out of the register rows and are recorded here instead. T. Rowe Price Associates files its VALUE column in THOUSANDS: the raw value field read $21,528, which only reconciles to an implied ~$75.88/share (consistent with every other holder's implied price that quarter) once read as $21,528 thousand = $21,528,000; the shares column itself is not in thousands.
- Implied per-share price across every Q2 2026 (30 Jun 2026) 13F-HR value/shares pair checked here (BlackRock, Vanguard successors, State Street, Geode, Schwab, Invesco, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, AQR, Morgan Stanley, FMR, T. Rowe) is consistently about $75.86 to $75.88, which is the basis for treating these figures as mutually consistent. No live/current stock quote was fetched in this task, so company.market_cap_usd is left null rather than derived from that implied price.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- No live market quote was fetched, so market_cap_usd and market_cap_as_of are null. An implied price of roughly $75.87 as of 30 Jun 2026 can be derived from the 13F filings cited above (see notes), and Richard Schulze's own July 2026 Form 4 shows realized sale prices of $80.88 to $83.63 for 13-14 Jul 2026, but neither is an explicit fetched market-cap figure.
- Whether Albedo Lessee 2, LLC and Prospero II Master Tenant, LLC (Exhibit 21, >90% Best Buy owned) have an outside minority investor with a name, size, or value was not disclosed anywhere found in the 10-K or 10-Q; only the '>90%' marker and the entity names are known.
- No Schedule 13D or 13G was found for Best Buy beyond the ones already superseded by fresher 13F-HR data (BlackRock's is dated Jan 2024, State Street's is dated Feb 2024, both cited in the 30 Apr 2026 DEF 14A); EDGAR full-text search for other current 13D/G filers on Best Buy was not separately run beyond the Schulze family CIK.
