Address, industry classification, listing and incorporation come from Autodesk, Inc.'s own SEC filer record, so the industry is the SEC's dry classification rather than a marketing label. The website was checked for this site against the company's own pages. The headcount is the figure the sources below state for 2026. The description was written for this site in August 2026 from Autodesk, Inc. Form 10-K for fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 and Autodesk (Wikipedia), not taken from any single article.

Description
Autodesk develops design and engineering software for architecture, construction, product design, manufacturing, and media and entertainment, and sells it on a subscription basis through a mix of direct and reseller channels. Revenue is reported in four product families: architecture, engineering, construction and operations, which covers Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk Build; AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT; manufacturing products such as Inventor and Fusion; and media and entertainment tools including Maya. In the fiscal year ended 31 January 2026, net revenue was $7.21 billion, made up of $3.58 billion from the construction family, $1.79 billion from AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, $1.38 billion from manufacturing, $332 million from media and entertainment and $125 million from other products. Founded in 1982 and based in San Francisco, the company employed about 14,300 people at the end of that fiscal year.

The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,295 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,295 managers reported a position, together holding 189.9m shares, or 90.0% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 211.0m shares outstanding at 21 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Fiscal year confirmed by filing date, not assumed. Autodesk's fiscal year ends in late January. The latest 10-K (filed 3 Mar 2026, accession 0000769397-26-000015) covers fiscal year 2026, ended 31 Jan 2026. The latest 10-Q (filed 29 May 2026, accession 0000769397-26-000044) covers the quarter ended 30 Apr 2026, i.e. Q1 of fiscal year 2027. The latest DEF 14A (filed 6 May 2026, accession 0000769397-26-000030) covers the 2026 annual meeting (17 Jun 2026), with a beneficial ownership table dated 22 Apr 2026 and a shares-outstanding cover figure of 211,325,324 as of 31 Mar 2026. All three filings were confirmed by filing date against the EDGAR submissions feed before use, per the brief's warning not to assume a December year end.
- Holdings side: empty, a sourced finding rather than a gap. Both the FY2026 10-K and the Q1 FY2027 10-Q were searched for 'non-marketable equity' (0 hits in both), 'equity method' (0 hits in both), 'strategic investment' (24 hits in the 10-K, 9 in the 10-Q), 'privately held' (9 hits in the 10-K, 7 in the 10-Q), 'Autodesk Foundation' (4 hits in the 10-K, 0 in the 10-Q, all philanthropy/charity references unrelated to equity stakes), and 'cost method' (0 hits in both). The Q1 FY2027 10-Q states: 'As of April 30, 2026, and January 31, 2026, Autodesk had $406 million and $346 million in direct investments in privately held companies, respectively. These strategic investments in equity securities do not have readily determined fair values, and Autodesk uses the measurement alternative to account for the adjustment to these investments.' No individual investee is named anywhere in either filing. Per the rule against assigning a combined balance to one investee, this combined balance is reported here rather than converted into invented holdings rows; every affected holding is therefore absent from the holdings array rather than null-valued within it, because no investee names were disclosed to attach a null value to.
- Autodesk does not file its own 13F (it is an operating software company, not an investment manager), so unlike some companies in this project there is no client-asset-management filing to exclude on the holdings side.
- Register side, activist history checked and found EXITED. Starboard Value LP ran an activist campaign against Autodesk beginning in 2024 (public reporting) and entered into a cooperation letter agreement with Autodesk on 23 Apr 2026 (per Autodesk's 8-K filed the same date, accession 0000769397-26-000051), under which new directors Jeff Epstein and A. Christine (Christie) Simons were appointed to the board following the 2025 Annual Meeting (18 Jun 2025), later followed by nominee Omar Abbosh for 2026. However, Starboard never crossed the 5% threshold that would require a Schedule 13D or 13G on Autodesk itself: EDGAR's SC 13D filing history for Autodesk (CIK 0000769397) shows no Starboard filing, and a full text search of SC 13D/SC 13D-A filings made BY Starboard Value LP (CIK 0001517137) in 2024 lists Alight, Acacia Research, Algonquin Power, Fortrea, Bloomin' Brands, Match Group, Healthcare Realty, GoDaddy, Green Dot and Wix, but never Autodesk. Starboard's Autodesk position is visible only in its own 13F-HR filings, and it has been fully EXITED: 1,467,348 shares as of 30 Jun 2025 ($454.2m), 1,313,000 shares as of 30 Sep 2025 ($417.1m), 1,001,733 shares as of 31 Dec 2025 ($296.5m), then ZERO as of 31 Mar 2026 and ZERO again as of 30 Jun 2026 (both confirmed by CUSIP/name search returning no row). Because the position never crossed 5% and is now fully exited, no Starboard row appears in the register; this is recorded here per the brief's instruction that an exited holder is a finding for notes, not a register row.
- Register side, 5%-plus holders per the 2026 proxy. The proxy names exactly two 5%+ holders, both index managers: The Vanguard Group, Inc. at 21,413,983 shares (10.1%), sourced from a stale Schedule 13G/A as of 30 Sep 2025 (filed 6 Oct 2025), and BlackRock, Inc. at 19,233,480 shares (9.1%), sourced from an even staler Schedule 13G as of 31 Dec 2023 (filed 25 Jan 2024, over two years old at the time the proxy was prepared). No other 5%+ holder, activist or strategic, is named in the proxy. The register below uses each manager's Q2 2026 Form 13F-HR/successor filings instead (30 Jun 2026 position date), which are materially more current and both show larger positions than the stale 13G/13G-A figures: Vanguard's successors sum to 25,404,109 shares (12.02%) and BlackRock to 24,837,233 shares (11.75%). This is consistent with both managers having added to their ADSK positions since the 13G snapshots rather than a data error.
- Vanguard successor case, confirmed rather than assumed. Vanguard Group Inc (parent CIK 0000102909) filed Form 13F-NT (a notice carrying no holdings) for the quarter ended 30 Jun 2026, and for the two prior quarters (31 Mar 2026 and 31 Dec 2025, the latter a 13F-HR that still would need checking for holdings). Because the parent's most recent quarter is a 13F-NT, the position is reported entirely by successor entities: Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119, 13,797,791 shares) and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (CIK 0002100121, 11,606,318 shares), summed to one 'The Vanguard Group' row rather than substituted, per the PNC-style rule for the 13F-NT case. Other Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers were not individually checked; see unknowns.
- Capital Group family checked across all three CIKs (Capital World Investors 0001422849, Capital International Investors 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors 0001422848) for the quarter ended 30 Jun 2026: all three hold ZERO Autodesk shares, confirmed both by an 'AUTODESK' name-fragment search and by CUSIP 052769106 absence across each full info table. No Capital Group row appears in the register.
- T. Rowe Price family checked across both CIKs. T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255) holds 1,232,735 ADSK shares as of 30 Jun 2026 (its raw XML value of $239,670 is in thousands of dollars, rescaled here by 1000 to $239,670,000; see the row's method_note for the implied-price cross-check). T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612), the separate registrant in the family, filed its own 13F-HR for the same period and holds ZERO ADSK shares, confirmed by CUSIP 052769106 absence across its full info table.
- Autodesk has a single class of common stock ($0.01 par value, one vote per share) and no dual-class or founder-control structure. CEO Andrew Anagnost, who has led the company since 2017, and every other director's/officer's beneficial ownership, individually and as the 15-person group, is less than 1% of outstanding common stock; this is a low-insider-ownership, institutionally-held company rather than a founder-control story.
- Percentages are computed against 211,325,324 common shares outstanding as of 31 Mar 2026 (2026 proxy cover/beneficial-ownership-table denominator) for every register row, including the two proxy-sourced insider rows. The Q1 FY2027 10-Q (period ended 30 Apr 2026, cover date 21 May 2026) independently states 'registrant had outstanding 211 million shares of common stock', a rounded figure consistent with the precise proxy count and confirming no split or major share-count change occurred between the two dates. No stock split was found in either filing; both use one consistent basis.
- Market capitalisation of $51.02 billion, share price of $241.64 and an aggregator shares-outstanding figure of approximately 211.15 million are stockanalysis.com's figures as of the 17 Aug 2026 market close (17:00 EDT), used only for company.market_cap_usd and share_price_usd; the SEC-filed 211,325,324 count is used for shares_outstanding and every register percentage instead of the aggregator's rounded figure.
- Self-gate check, computed the way the chart computes it: 14 register rows (12 institutional 13F rows plus 2 insider rows). Using the formula from the chunk prompt, the CEO row (Andrew Anagnost, 115,159 shares, not itself an aggregate) counts at full value, and the 15-person officer/director group (is_aggregate, 293,952 shares raw) is reduced by the 115,159 shares that roll up into it from the Anagnost row, contributing a residual of 178,793. Total: 25,404,109 + 24,837,233 + 10,268,172 + 6,891,840 + 5,023,243 + 3,803,875 + 2,966,396 + 2,903,600 + 2,719,228 + 2,596,374 + 1,714,536 + 1,232,735 + 115,159 + 178,793 = 90,655,293 shares, or 42.90% of 211,325,324 shares outstanding. Within the expected 25 to 45 percent range.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The identities of the companies inside Autodesk's combined $406 million (30 Apr 2026) / $346 million (31 Jan 2026) 'direct investments in privately held companies' balance. Neither the Q1 FY2027 10-Q nor the FY2026 10-K names any individual investee within this balance, so no holdings row can be sized or even named.
- Whether the $9 million loss on strategic investments (FY2026, per the 10-K's non-GAAP reconciliation) or prior-year comparable figures relate to one investee or several; not disclosed by name in either filing searched.
- Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, Vanguard Global Advisers) were not individually checked for ADSK holdings within the time budget; if they hold ADSK shares, the true Vanguard aggregate is somewhat higher than the 25,404,109 shares used here.
- Whether Starboard Value LP retains any ADSK exposure through options, swaps, or other derivatives not reported on Schedule 13F's Form 13F information table; only the common-stock position was checked and found at zero for the two most recent quarters.
- Dollar values for the two insider register rows (Anagnost and the 15-person group) are null: the proxy's beneficial ownership table gives share counts and a '<1%' label but not a dollar value, and no share price as of the 22 Apr 2026 measurement date was independently sourced, so a value was not estimated rather than guessed.
- Franklin Resources, Wellington Management, Dodge & Cox and other smaller institutional holders were not checked within the time budget; the register above satisfies the brief's top 8 to 12 requirement (extended to 12 institutional rows to include the mandated Vanguard, Capital Group and T. Rowe Price family checks) but is not an exhaustive list of every 13F filer holding ADSK.
