The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,276 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,276 managers reported a position, together holding 339.5m shares, or 56.7% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of a share count taken later than this quarter, because the count in force at the snapshot is not published as a structured fact for this company. Where the count has moved since, the figures are off by that much.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- MULTI-CLASS DENOMINATOR. Airbnb has four authorized classes of common stock. As of 15 Jul 2026 (10-Q cover page): Class A 419,529,556 shares outstanding (1 vote/share, Nasdaq-listed as ABNB), Class B 170,056,126 shares outstanding (20 votes/share, not publicly traded, held almost entirely by the three co-founders), Class C 0 shares outstanding (authorized but never issued), Class H 9,200,000 shares outstanding (0 votes/share, held entirely by Airbnb Host Endowment LLC, a wholly owned Airbnb subsidiary). company.shares_outstanding (598,785,682) is the sum of all four classes, per the brief's instruction that the chart divides raw register shares by this all-class total. Class A and Class B are economically fungible: Class B converts into Class A 1-for-1 at the holder's option, so summing raw Class A and Class B share counts into one register row (as done for the three founders and the officers group) is treated here as a valid apples-to-apples basis for ECONOMIC ownership percentage, distinct from VOTING power, which requires the 20x weighting on Class B and is reported separately below rather than charted.
- Every institutional 13F row in this register (Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street, Geode, FMR, Norges Bank, T. Rowe Price) reports Class A shares only, since Class A is the only Airbnb class that is publicly traded and 13F-reportable. Their pct_of_company is computed against the all-class total (598,785,682), which is slightly lower than if computed against Class A shares outstanding alone (419,529,556); pct_denominator states this explicitly on every row per the brief's warning about conflating a stake's percentage of one class with its percentage of the company.
- VOTING POWER, the real story for a founder-led dual-class company. Per the 2026 proxy (as of 8 Apr 2026): Brian Chesky controls approximately 30.5% of aggregate voting power, Nathan Blecharczyk approximately 29.7%, and Joseph Gebbia approximately 19.0%, all three subject to a Founder Voting Agreement requiring each to vote for the others' board seats. All current executive officers and directors as a group control approximately 80.6% of aggregate voting power. These voting-power percentages are 20x-weighted for Class B and cannot be derived from the share-count register above; they are recorded here as prose only, as the brief instructs, because the chart has no mechanism to display vote weighting.
- Holdings are empty by design, a sourced finding rather than a gap. The Q2 2026 10-Q (Note on Investments) and the FY2025 10-K (Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements) were both searched for 'equity method', 'non-marketable', 'privately-held companies', 'strategic investment' and 'venture'. Two combined, unnamed balances were found: (1) 'Investments Accounted for Under the Equity Method', carrying value $47 million at 31 Dec 2024 and 31 Dec 2025, $52 million at 30 Jun 2026, described only as 'equity method investments in privately-held companies' with no investee named; and (2) 'Equity Investments Without Readily Determinable Fair Values' (the measurement-alternative bucket), net carrying value $38 million at 31 Dec 2024 and $11 million at 31 Dec 2025, also with no investee named. During H1 2026 the Company recognized a $71 million realized gain on the sale of one unnamed equity investment. Per the rule against assigning a combined balance to one investee, none of these figures are attributed to any named holding; both totals are recorded here rather than converted into invented holdings rows.
- Vanguard cross-check: the Vanguard family's Q2 2026 13F-HR sum used in the register (34,521,602 Class A shares) is materially lower than the figure the 2026 proxy's own 5% Stockholders table shows for The Vanguard Group (38,295,288 Class A shares, 9.1% of Class A), which the proxy itself sources to a stale Schedule 13G/A filed 30 Oct 2025. The 13F-based figure (30 Jun 2026 position date) is used as the primary sourced register row as it is more current; the proxy's stale figure is recorded here rather than in a duplicate row, consistent with 'reconcile, do not overwrite'.
- Vanguard case confirmed: parent CIK 0000102909 filed Form 13F-NT (notice, no holdings) for Q2 2026, so per the brief's rule the successor entities' holdings were summed rather than one row substituted. Two successors found and summed: Vanguard Capital Management LLC (CIK 0002100119) and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (CIK 0002100121). Other, smaller Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers were not individually checked; see unknowns.
- Capital Group family checked across all three CIKs (Capital World Investors 0001422849, Capital International Investors 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors 0001422848): none held any ABNB shares in their Q2 2026 13F-HR filings (confirmed by CUSIP 009066101 absence in each full info table). T. Rowe Price Investment Management, Inc. (CIK 0001897612) also confirmed to hold zero ABNB for the same period, distinct from T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (CIK 0000080255), which does hold ABNB and is included above with the thousands-convention correction applied (see that row's method_note).
- Market capitalization ($105.71 billion) and implied share price ($176.55, derived as market_cap_usd divided by shares_outstanding) are from stockanalysis.com's live snapshot fetched 17-18 Aug 2026; the page did not print an explicit as-of timestamp, so 2026-08-17 (the most recent US market close before this research task) is used as an approximation. stockanalysis.com's own reported shares-outstanding figure (589.59 million) is close to but not identical to the 598,785,682 all-class SEC figure used here, likely reflecting a slightly different or more recent as-of date, or exclusion of the small Class H tranche; both figures are recorded for cross-check.
- Self-gate, computed exactly as specified: 12 register rows. Institutional 13F rows sum to 109,678,331 shares. Sequoia Capital adds 17,829,874 shares. The three founder rows (full value, as members) sum to 162,967,367 shares. The officers-and-directors aggregate is reduced to its residual of 1,322,965 shares (164,290,332 minus the 162,967,367 already counted via its three founder members). Total: 291,798,537 shares against 598,785,682 shares outstanding, or 48.73%. This sits above the 25-45% typical band but within the 'up to 55% acceptable for a founder-led company' allowance the brief describes, and it is fully explained here: Airbnb's three co-founders alone hold 27.22% of the company by raw economic share count (66,702,326 + 61,503,051 + 34,761,990 = 162,967,367 shares of 598,785,682) and control roughly 79-80% of aggregate voting power between them, which is the dominant, named, sourced concentration driving the total above the typical range.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- The identities of the companies inside Airbnb's two combined, unnamed investment balances: 'equity method investments in privately-held companies' ($52 million at 30 Jun 2026) and 'equity investments without readily determinable fair values' ($11 million at 31 Dec 2025). Neither the 10-Q nor the 10-K names any individual investee within either balance, nor names the investment sold for the $71 million H1 2026 realized gain.
- Vanguard-affiliated 13F filers other than Vanguard Capital Management LLC and Vanguard Portfolio Management LLC (for example Vanguard Advisers Inc, Vanguard Fiduciary Trust Co, Vanguard Global Advisers) were not individually checked for ABNB holdings within the time budget; if any hold ABNB shares, the true Vanguard family total is somewhat higher than the 34,521,602 shares used here.
- Whether Sequoia Capital's position has changed since the 5 Nov 2024 Schedule 13G cited in the 2026 proxy; the underlying 13G/13G-A itself was not independently re-fetched in this task, only the proxy's summary of it.
- A precise dollar value for the register's insider and aggregate rows (Chesky, Blecharczyk, Gebbia, Sequoia, and the officers group): the proxy gives share counts and percentages but not dollar values, and no single Class A/Class B blended share price as of the 8 Apr 2026 record date was independently sourced, so no value was estimated rather than guessed.
- Institutional holders beyond the top 7 by size (for example Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Northern Trust, Capital Group, MFS) were not individually pulled for ABNB within the time budget once the top 7 plus the Vanguard/T. Rowe/Capital Group family checks satisfied the brief's top 8-12 holder guidance combined with the founder and VC rows.
