Description
Agilent Technologies, Inc. is an American global company headquartered in Santa Clara, California, that provides instruments, software, services, and consumables for laboratories. Agilent was established in 1999 as a spin-off from Hewlett-Packard. The resulting initial public offering of Agilent stock was the largest in the history of Silicon Valley at the time. From 1999 to 2014, the company produced optics (LED, laser), semiconductors, EDA software and test and measurement equipment for electronics; that division was spun off to form Keysight. Since then, the company has continued to expand into pharmaceutical, diagnostics & clinical, and academia & government (research) markets.

The full register, from 13F filings
The Register tab above is hand research: a dozen holders, each traced to the filing it came from. This asks the same question of the whole market for the quarter ended 31-mar-2026, where 1,058 managers reported a position. Broad where the research is deep, and shallow in the ways a 13F always is.
1,058 managers reported a position, together holding 253.2m shares, or 89.6% of the company. The 40 largest are listed. Percentages are of the 282.4m shares outstanding at 27 May 2026, the count in force when this quarter was measured rather than the count today.
Built from 13F filings, which report US listed, long, US custodied positions only. A register from this source is a floor rather than a level: a holder's true position can be far larger, as BlackRock's ASML stake shows at 1.28m shares in a 13F against 26.3m in its 13G/A. Holdings held through derivatives, outside US custody, or below a manager's reporting obligation do not appear. Where a holder is marked as a family, its total sums several separate filing entities and describes something no single filing describes; the constituent entities and their share counts are listed so the total can be checked. That roll-up can legitimately exceed the family's own Schedule 13G, because a 13G is filed by one legal entity: Vanguard reports Alphabet through ten advisory entities, and The Vanguard Group Inc itself reported zero after its January 2026 disaggregation.
What a reader needs to know to read these numbers
- Fiscal periods used: Agilent's fiscal year ends in late October. The latest 10-K on file is for fiscal year 2025 (period ended 31 Oct 2025, filed 22 Dec 2025). The latest 10-Q on file as of 18 Aug 2026 is for the fiscal Q2 2026 quarter (period ended 30 Apr 2026, filed 1 Jun 2026); the Q3 FY2026 10-Q (period ending 31 Jul 2026) had not yet been filed as of the research date, consistent with Agilent's normal ~30-day filing lag. company.shares_outstanding (282,431,944) is taken from this Q2 FY2026 10-Q cover page: 'As of May 27, 2026, the registrant had 282,431,944 shares of common stock, $0.01 par value per share, outstanding.' The 5%-holder proxy table used is the 2026 DEF 14A (filed 6 Feb 2026), the most recent one on file, with a 21 Jan 2026 record date and 282,839,637 shares outstanding stated on its own cover.
- Keysight corroboration (two-sided): Keysight Technologies, Inc. was spun off from Agilent via a pro-rata stock distribution completed 1 Nov 2014, and data/research/keysight.json (researched the prior day) already established that Agilent holds nothing in Keysight: no SC 13D or SC 13G filed by Agilent on Keysight since the spin-off, and Keysight's 2026 proxy 5%-holder table lists only Vanguard, T. Rowe Price and BlackRock. This was corroborated independently from Agilent's own side. (1) Agilent's Q2 FY2026 10-Q and FY2025 10-K both mention Keysight only in the related-party 'other income (expense)' note, describing 'the provision of site service costs to, and lease income from, Keysight Technologies, Inc.' (income of $3m to $12m per period across FY2024, FY2025 and Q2 FY2026), which is a landlord/service relationship left over from the spin-off, not an equity stake. No non-marketable or marketable equity investment note anywhere in either filing names Keysight as an investee. (2) Agilent's own CIK (0001090872) filing history lists 31 Schedule 13D/13G filings since 2014; every one was inspected and all are ordinary institutional 13G/13G-A filings made BY OTHERS (Vanguard, Vanguard Horizon Funds, T. Rowe Price, BlackRock predecessors, etc.) reporting positions IN Agilent's own stock (CUSIP 00846U101, Agilent named as 'Issuer'), exactly the trap the brief warns about: one filing (accession 0000932471-24-000867) was opened directly and confirmed to be Vanguard Group's own SC 13G/A on Agilent, not a filing by Agilent on anyone else. (3) EDGAR full text search for SC 13D/SC 13G/SC 13D-A/SC 13G-A filings containing the word 'Keysight' and filed under CIK 0001090872 (Agilent as filer) returned zero hits. A broader full text search for 'Keysight Technologies' across all SC 13D/13G filings (no CIK filter) returned 45 hits, none naming Agilent as filer; the top hit is Keysight's own 2017 SC 13D for its Ixia tender offer, already identified in keysight.json. Conclusion: both sides agree, Agilent never retained and does not currently hold any Keysight stake.
- Holdings side: searched the FY2025 10-K and the Q2 FY2026 10-Q for 'equity method', 'non-marketable', 'Investments in privately', 'non-controlling interest'/'noncontrolling interest', 'minority interest', 'strategic investment', 'joint venture', 'unconsolidated', 'Keysight', and 'stock split'. Result: holdings is an empty array, and this is a sourced finding, not a gap. The FY2025 10-K states explicitly: 'Equity method investments are reported at the amount of the company's initial investment and adjusted each period for the company's share of the investee's income or loss and dividend paid...There are no equity method investments as of October 31, 2025 and 2024.' No 'non-controlling interest' or 'minority interest' language appears anywhere in the FY2025 10-K (zero hits for both), consistent with Agilent having no partially owned consolidated subsidiary.
- Non-marketable equity securities (investments in privately-held companies, no readily determinable fair value, measurement-alternative accounting) had a combined carrying amount of $55 million at 31 Oct 2025 (FY2025 10-K) and $54 million at 30 Apr 2026 (Q2 FY2026 10-Q). Neither filing names any individual investee behind this balance; it is explicitly a combined figure covering multiple private companies (the accounting policy note describes it generically as 'non-marketable equity securities issued by private companies and include VIEs'). Per the brief's rule that a combined balance covering several unnamed investees sizes none of them individually, no holdings row was created for this balance; the combined figures are recorded here and in unknowns rather than attributed to any named company.
- Marketable securities and benefit-plan portfolios excluded on the same treasury/pension basis the brief flags (per the Teradyne $162.3m treasury-portfolio precedent and the Keysight deferred-compensation-portfolio precedent): the FY2025 10-K's long-term investments table shows, alongside the $55m non-marketable line, 'Other investments - with readily determinable fair value' of $37m (FY2025) / $31m (FY2024) and 'Trading securities' of $41m (FY2025) / $43m (FY2024), the latter explicitly tied in the notes to funding the deferred compensation liability (itself carried at $41m/$43m in the same periods per the fair-value hierarchy table). 'Total long-term investments' was $133m (FY2025) versus $175m (FY2024). None of these treasury or deferred-compensation-plan lines are strategic equity stakes and none are included in holdings.
- Register: 10 institutional/13F rows sourced from fresh Q2 2026 13F-HR filings (period ended 30 Jun 2026, filed 7 to 14 Aug 2026), used in preference to the 2026 proxy's 5%-holder table, which cites a Schedule 13G/A filed 12 Nov 2024 (Vanguard, 33,446,526 sh / 11.8% there) and a Schedule 13G/A filed 17 Apr 2025 (BlackRock, 23,626,346 sh / 8.4% there); the stale proxy figures are noted in each row's method_note where relevant, and the fresh Q2 2026 figures (Vanguard 35,828,599 sh, BlackRock 25,599,001 sh) supersede them per the brief. Vanguard's parent CIK 0000102909 filed Form 13F-NT for Q2 2026 (confirmed directly against its EDGAR submissions feed), so its row sums all 8 successor entities named and cited in method_note, cross-checked against this project's own data/registers/A.json Vanguard family list. T. Rowe Price is a roll-up of both CIKs named in the brief (Associates and the separate Investment Management registrant), both of which needed the thousands-to-dollars rescaling, verified against a consistent ~$132.8 to $133.1 per share implied price across independent filers as of 30 Jun 2026. Capital Group (all three named CIKs: Capital World Investors 0001422849, Capital International Investors 0001562230, Capital Research Global Investors 0001422848) was checked by both CUSIP (00846U101) grep and issuer-name search and holds zero AGILENT shares this quarter; no row added, negative finding recorded here per the brief. Plus 2 insider rows sourced from the 2026 proxy (CEO Padraig McDonnell individually, and the 20-person officer/director aggregate), 12 register rows total.
- Self-gate, computed with the chart's own formula on this final file: 12 register rows. Members rolling into the 'All directors and executive officers as a group (20 persons)' aggregate: Padraig McDonnell 54,582 shares, counted at full value on his own row; the aggregate itself counted at its residual of 479,718 minus 54,582 = 425,136. Every other row (10 institutional rows) counted at full value. Row total: 113,530,569 shares against 282,431,944 shares outstanding = 40.20%. This sits within the brief's typical 25 to 45 per cent band. No mixed instrument, pre-split figure, or double-counted holder was found on review.
- Agilent has a single class of common stock, one vote per share, no dual-class structure and no founder/family control block; total insider (director and executive officer) ownership is 0.17 per cent of shares outstanding per the proxy, so there is no insider-control story comparable to a founder-led company.
- No stock split was found: 'stock split', 'two-for-one' and 'forward split' all returned zero hits in both the Q2 FY2026 10-Q and the FY2025 10-K.
- Market cap ($41.98 billion) and share price ($148.44) are sourced from stockanalysis.com as of market close 18 Aug 2026. Cross-checking shares_outstanding (282,431,944, as of 27 May 2026) times this share price gives an implied market cap of approximately $41.92 billion, consistent with the reported $41.98 billion within normal share-count-timing tolerance.
Looked for, not found
Recorded rather than filled in. Each of these is a place where a number could have been invented and was not.
- Identity of the private companies behind the $55 million (31 Oct 2025) / $54 million (30 Apr 2026) combined non-marketable equity securities balance; not disclosed by name in either the FY2025 10-K or the Q2 FY2026 10-Q, and per the brief's rule against assigning a combined balance to one investee, no holdings row was created for it.
- Dollar value for the two insider register rows (Padraig McDonnell and the 20-person officer/director group) is null: the proxy gives share counts and a '<1%' label but not a dollar value, and no 21 Jan 2026 share price was independently sourced.
- Whether any Vanguard-family CIK beyond the 8 checked (drawn from this project's own data/registers/A.json) holds AGILENT shares; all 8 checked CIKs held nonzero positions this quarter, so if a 9th entity exists the true Vanguard family total would be marginally higher than 35,828,599 shares.
- Full fresh Q2 2026 13F figures for several holders that were sizable in this project's own stale (31 Mar 2026) A.json register but were not re-checked here for time reasons: Massachusetts Financial Services Co, Deutsche Bank AG, Morgan Stanley, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co, Goldman Sachs, Pictet Asset Management, AQR Capital Management, Bank of New York Mellon Corp. The 10 institutional holders used here (Vanguard, BlackRock, State Street, T. Rowe Price, Geode, Wellington, FMR/Fidelity, Norges Bank, Northern Trust, JPMorgan) were prioritized as the largest and most diverse by holder_type from the stale register, cross-checked fresh.
- The identity of the individual unnamed executive officers making up the 24,272-share gap between the 16 individually named directors/NEOs and the 20-person group total in the 2026 proxy.
